    Use the bottle, missing the bottom, as a chimney, over a tealight. Or, cut the top off as well and use over a tea light or votive candle.

Totally amazing well done I was shocked to see the celluloid had survived that long the metal had disintegrated that makes you really aware of the damage of plastic saying that I can't wait to see what you can do to make it come back fresh, lemon cream puffs were my favourite biscuits when I was a wee lassie in the 60's much love to Sarah Jack and yourself Alex x

      Hi Alana - it was at least 3 buzzards that were squawking. That pesky Dave - he makes lots of noise, but I rarely get a glimpse of him now!
      And sure, I can show the discard pile. I do worry a bit that I'll receive lots of comments asking why I don't take everything home though. The truth is, I just don't have the room to take everything I find. Willie :)

      Usually there is an enormous pile of broken and unwanted items. A guess would be roughly 10-1 of junk to decent finds. I think I probably move around 2 - 3 tons of earth/ash on the average dig also. And of course, that gets moved twice when I backfill the hole. 🙂

    I love these videos you do, Willie! They remind me of when my brother and I hunted antique bottles on an old estate a couple of blocks from where we grew up in Maryland in the 1960s and early 70s. We weren't supposed to be there, but you know kids. I remember a blue milk of magnesia bottle and an amber clorox bleach bottle, among others, all in perfect condition. My parents recognized the designs from when they were growing up in the 1920s. My brother and I never dug - just found what was sitting around in the woods and undergrowth. The bottles are gone long ago, alas. There was no internet to look them up on, but I imagine they were from the 1920s and 1930s, knowing something of the history of the estate.

  • @middleagecrazy4234

    A challenge. Those bottles with no bottom. Cut it nice off smooth leaving as much as you can, create a wooden base maybe with fitted groove. Now you have a tea light candle dome no cork for air. The advertising can glow

    • @middleagecrazy4234
      @middleagecrazy4234 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also I sure need one the same thing can be used to water your plant soil. I had to cut a plastic bottle to water the deep soil in my pot. The water was just running out so fast it really did not water. So since I didn’t have an automatic bubble I had to improvise. Bypass the top soil water the cup.

    From watching your channel as well as Sarah's, I have learned about Scotland and then when I read the archeology articles about stone circles and Roman settlements, and the continued exploration of your country. I learn so much from all of you (the british mudlarks and treasure hunters)! It makes our world so much smaller and friendly. So you are carrying the torch to pass it on to the next treasure hunter. Even here if you don't like the weather, wait a few, it will change. I was always told when its sunny and raining.... the devil is beating his wife. Not politically correct now a days, but that's what I heard as a child. Great job on the tiles. One mudlark collected numerous blue and white shards and re-tiled his loo floor. So I can't wait to see the table.

    You do a great job of touchup.
    I did painting restoration and you have an excellent colorsense.
    I also have one and it helps a lot.
    I used colored furniture restoration waxes to fill damaged area on porcelain and other ceramics.
    It filled well, sanded very easily and offered a feeling of transparency.
    After completion I also glazed the surface and you couldn't tell it had been damaged.
    The paintings and objects I restored had to be reversible, but your do not.
    Way to go!

      You never know, maybe I’ll do them again someday. It’s just tricky finding a place to dig now.

    Since you get ash layers, could it be a spectacle lens that got caught in a fire? Also, have you managed to resolve Dave’s pay yet?

    • @dirtysecretsofscotland
      @dirtysecretsofscotland  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Sarah - yeah, that's a possibility. Maybe an early form of sunglasses lens?
      Dave is so pesky! He makes his presence known, but rarely makes a physical appearance. Soon there will be no leaves on the trees, so it'll be harder for him to hide! Willie :)

    Just curious about whether there's any damage to the soil/environment digging holes all over the place?

    • @dirtysecretsofscotland
      @dirtysecretsofscotland  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi - I only dig holes of this size in old landfill sites. The ground is already very damaged by the rubbish and ash that were tipped into it. By removing this rubbish and disposing of it properly, if anything, I'm actually improving the soil. Also, I always back fill the holes to prevent any creatures or people from falling in to them.

    Do you find wee things like marbles, doll pieces, coins? Doesn’t seem like there’s much metal, or ceramic? Do you just not show them?

    • @dirtysecretsofscotland
      @dirtysecretsofscotland  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Melissa - yes, I do find small items too, but this particular tip isn't so prolific for them, compared to others I dig. I have found a few doll heads there though - they're in some of the previous videos.
      As for metal, it is mainly just crumbling rust now, having been in the ground for over a century - not really much to show. That said though, I did just find a brass bell that will feature in a couple of weeks from now. Willie :)

      Hi Sherry, I wasn't mocking Bob Ross - I was just laughing at (my own) suggestion that I sounded like him - my Scottish twang clearly sounds nothing like him. He's a hero of mine - an incredible talent - I would never mock him. Sorry if I wasn't too clear on that. Willie :)
