As a retired vet taps always gives me a lump in my throat especially now that it's the 4th of July and I think of all the service men who fought and died on land or sea. Your subject matter is great and your videos are getting better. Never mind the nay sayers you don't need another narrator your doing just fine. Thank for your hard work in producing these videos for us to enjoy. #satisfied 💯👍🏻👍🏻

Thank you for a great history of the Growler. Commander Gilmore was the first submariner to receive the Medal of Honor for his heroic actions as he chose to be the last man to leave the bridge and sacrificed his life. I was a crew member of the last Growler, SSG-577, which has a rich history during the cold war and can be toured and visited today in New York City at the Intrepid Museum. When ever the remaining crew members get together we have a ceremony and toll a bell in memory of lost boats and crews.

I'll be putting together a model of the SSGN Growler in a few weeks. Is there any detail or quote, or awards I should add to it's display that might be uncommon knowledge? I'd be happy to add them.

@@craftpaint1644 No "N", just plain old diesel boat - SSG 577. The Halibut was the only Regulus boat that had a nuclear power plant.

I am a Growler not a 215 Growler but a 577 Growler, yeah the one in the Intrepid Museum, NY,NY.
To correct a huge error, a Growler Fish is a member of the Perch family and common in the USA.

Good to see these Pacific battles and attacks given some light. They seem to be kept in low profile, perhaps because of their resemblance to the condemned U boat campaigns.

Meisha wright close to 20 years old. Overwhelming vast majority would be 25 and under. Where's the few Grandpa's of 30 to 35. And a great grandpa 21 being right about 40 and the other one being late 30s.
Say this with the utmost respect. No play on words. Add live would be the great grandfather's. Go Army and these were the terms for a really old people, who are about the same shoes that we were. We refer to the really old guys in the late late twenties and maybe 30 or 31 years of age as Grandpa. One attached to our unit was grandma. The first sergeant looking back there's probably over 40. The captain was probably early thirties. I remember laughing when I got to that stage of early thirties, because some of the fresh recruits for thinking of me as Grandpa. My whole point is if your grandpa at 30 + a - a couple of years, and juice exemplifies how you own all these people were. Real them such a debt. All those who lost their lives fighting and those who lived through it with whatever injuries they may have had. Even the ones you appear to have no injuries, memories that will haunt them. So if nothing else will ever holiday now it's the fourth of July Independence Day let's remember these men we have this submarine or just any ship or other military service. For now years women have served in combat roles and and combat support roles have been killed and or wounded. So whatever day of the year especially holiday let's remember holidays they missed out on. Veteran's Day memorial Day and Independence day all memorial to our fall and service personnel men and women. Also those that survived and come on as well. It doesn't matter that many of them would be a hundred years old and most likely gone anyway. They did not have y'all changing the grow old. And many more reasons including these let's remember them at least in general. Christmas holidays those are the special family holidays were there not present. Birthday present that they all gave us is our freedom. Thank you.
