  • The majority of hunters and land managers deal with small parcels of land. Successfully managing and hunting these tracts of land can be challenging, but it is far from impossible. The key is providing everything a whitetail needs so it doesn't have a reason to leave. This can be done through a variety of different measures, but a vital key is not only managing the land, but also the amount of hunting pressure you put on the deer on your property.
    This week, we answer viewer submitted questions regarding small land management and hunting strategies. We had some great questions regarding food sources, bedding areas, and the best locations to hunt. The main points to keep in mind in all of these is surveying your piece of property and deciding what it is missing. Once you've identified it, take measures to improve it. On a piece of property less than 100 acres, pressure plays a huge role. Providing sanctuaries for deer that you rarely if ever enter, is just as important as bedding cover and food plots. Careful planning goes into every aspect of small land management and every property is different. Strategically making management decisions for your piece of property to make it better than the surroundings land and you can bet you'll have a large number of whitetails calling your land home.
    The Management Advantage has always been driven by the viewers and this episode is a prime example of why we do what we do. Thank you to everyone who submitted their questions and we look forward to answering more of them in coming episodes.

    Thank you for this informative video. I am currently investigating a sideline business of planting food plots with my SCUT. This video provided a lot of the answers to the questions I have been thinking about. Thank you.

    Good vid, as usual. I have gleaned a lot of valuable info from you guys over the last couple of years. My son and I just landed a 60 acre hardwood and pasture lease on the river. It butts against our 20 acres, and is an absolute dream property. I cannot wait for this coming season. I sure would like to see more videos from you Tom. I've got family in Indiana and I know there is some really good hunting there.

    good job guys. I hunt two small pieces of property here in Virginia, Both are 60 acres I have about 3-4 acres of food on each piece. there is good cover but I am limited on ways to enter the properties without alerting deer. Sometimes I feel as if the deer our figuring out my patterns more so than I am theres. I have been fairly successful for this part of Virginia considering the town I hunt is 90% hunting clubs which do not care to manage but to only kill what ever they see and only hunt with dogs. So it is tough to get a deer much past 3 years old.

    you guys make it sound easier than it is. love the episode but how about the guy who doesn't have the equipment or money to rent it. I struggle to put the gas in the truck just to get out to my property , let alone spend money on equipment, seed, fertilizer, ect. how about a budget episode that shows how to do this with no equipment. thanks

      Get a Rake, a lawn mower and/or weed eater.... 100lbs of seeds and after you tear up the 1/2 acre or full acre... watch it grow man. Start slow brother. Get it done.

    Great videos. Your 4 acers of food plots, is it just one area or do you have multiple plots? I have 50 acers in Eastern NC and my first year with plots. BIG learning curve.

    Great show guys. Love the channel. I thought I'd ask a general question that goes in the opposite direction of the theme here. That is, if one is fortunate enough to purchase or lease a large acreage, what acreage (assuming reasonable management) is sufficient to hold a herd throughout its range? 1,000 acres? 2,000 acres? TIA

    If you need a camera man, shoot me a message and I could help out. I have been keeping up with your episodes and I am also from Indiana. We currently lease in Ripley County and have a couple of other permission only properties in Bartholomew and Brown. I try to self film all my hunts but have the same problems you had. Dead serious. I hunt all over southern Indiana and would love to help you all. I believe you all have got it right. Deer hunting is not just a fall hobby, it is a year round quest for a mature healthy deer herd to hunt and enjoy.

  • @hunterofstoneorbone
    @hunterofstoneorbone 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    I notice you guys talk almost exclusively about food plots for feeding your deer herd. I am fortunate enough to have been given permission to hunt several hundred acres of open hardwood timber and small cutover areas of different ages. There's no tillable areas to plant food plots so I have been feeding corn from gravity barrel feeders to help nutrition and also to entice the herd to stay on my land instead of my neighbors. I wonder if you guys have any other ideas to help with the nutrition aspect of it. I don't particularly like just feeding corn but I don't really know any other way, or product to use that would work better.

    • @ManagementAdvantage

      Texas Sporting Clays Eagle Soybeans are the best Roundup Ready forage. They're a forage soybean that produce a ton of food for whitetails and allow spraying RU.

      KJ Outdoors
      How big is your property?
      I’m on a 40 acre parcel in which I also live on. I have water, food and the all sacred sanctuary where I only ever go only to do maintenance during the off-season and keep them here even though my neighbors all have 500 to 800 acre tracts.

    I don't understand you man. You put all this time money and effort labor into this property it is your baby your labor of love and you hunt it the right way at the right time and everything goes according to the plan that you made in your head but when you are successful you give credit to a magic man in the sky that did absolutely nothing to help you. Give credit to yourself don't just give it away to someone else or something else especially when you don't even know if it's there or not take credit yourself you did the work be proud of yourself don't sell yourself short you killed that buck you did everything right not some magical anthropomorphics genie in the sky
