    It’s makes me feels so good to know that someone so experienced with plants still has some issues with them, I still struggle with some of my plants and just knowing that you still have some that are not happy makes me feel better

    For whatever worth it might hold, I've learned more in the past week of (binge watching) your videos, than of years on my own. Genuinely, grateful and appreciative. Putting every bit of your advice, into practice. Kindest thanks.

    I don't know where I heard this phrase, but it may explain why some of your plants don't flower until a couple years after having them: "First year it sleeps, second year it creeps, third year it leaps!"
    The first year the plant is getting used to its new home. The second year it starts to grow more prolifically. The third year it feels like flowering. 😊

    Just a note to let you know I appreciate your teachings. So very informative.
    I love in Canada. Aot of snow in winter. Not much rain water for my plants. So I collect the snow, melt it, strain it and dees my plants with it. They seem to do well.

    Your plants and home are lovely! Hats off to you for having Tradescantia endurance, I had a lilac one and after adding cuttings over and over...moving it multiple times ... changing light...changing water, I thought it looked best in the trash can.

    I have the same type of Aloe Vera and found that it didn't like direct sun and would react as if it was overwatered (turn grey/pale and go mushy). Might be worth shifting it. You'll know it worked because the green colouring will return, often darker.

      My aloe turned grey from too much sun as well. I put it in a North facing window and it's much happier. I was shocked to be honest. Thought it would be the other way around.

      I've got 2 types : one" rescue "from Aldi and the other I brought over from Lanzarote 2 years ago . Absolutely thriving. I let them go really dry and I tend to move them on the bench to get morning and afternoon sun only , otherwise they go pink

    Forgive me if you already have a video of this, but in this video you mentioned that you forgot to check a new plant after bringing it home. For us newbies it would be great to see what you look for when buying a plant and what tasks you complete when you bring one home. Like checking for spider mites as you mentioned in this video. Love your channel! Cheers for the US!

    Your house looks like the house I grew up in. My mom was a amazing plant parent. Her biggest source of pride were her African Violets. It seemed like they were in constant bloom. She swore by Schultz’s African Violet food. Because she was a working mom every Saturday was cleaning blitz day. Once a month it was my job to clean the plant leaves which would take all day!

    Aloe Vera can be a tricky plant. Mature ones love direct sun, but they have to be gradually adjusted. I have found that especially the smaller, younger ones have to be kept out of the sun. If you notice them turning orange/brown/grey it is probably sun damage! Moving them back from the window will usually fix that, and they bounce back quite quickly. As for water, wait until the soil is completely dry and then wait a bit more. Don’t water until the leaves feel soft and droopy, then give them a good soak! Good luck!

So i don’t have to worry about dry leaves 🍂but my leaves are starting to turn red and I’m confused why !

    8:30 You need to give the alocasia more fertilizer and you can have more leaves. Lesson I learned with my alocasias. I fertilize them every time when I water them with half amount. I have for example an alocasia silver dragen with 8 leaves which I bought as baby plant 1 year ago.
    But I guess if I had 200 plants I would not have the nerves to figure out what every plant needs exactly :)

Your adonsonii climbing up the bamboo is looking great.....I have killed many fittonia when they fall down because of water....my trick is I keep all of mine where I can always see them and when one is dry, I water all of them so they all are on the same schedule! Nice collection of different types of house plants. I'e found over the years I go through phases of liking a particular type of plant, then I get bored and won't have that type for a while. I used to have a large cacti and succulent collection in the 80s, and liked the maranta prayer plant and bromeliads, now I prefer vining/climbing more tropical plants, micans, pothos, scindapsus. I have a Devils Ivy, golden pothos that I got in 1980, its my longest lived houseplant!

    • @SheffieldMadePlants

    • @louiseahmedtropicalplantgr5000
      @louiseahmedtropicalplantgr5000 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SheffieldMadePlants haha no the opposite the Devils ivy grew so big over the years I cut it back many times, recently it became very woody and suffered leaf drop on the lower part of the stem, so i cut it again right back to base level, and repotted into fresh compost, and divided the long stems into cuttings.

    Beautiful plants! You have a lot more plants than I do. I have about 40, but they are pretty big. A few in 6 inch pots but most in 10 or 12 . I wanted a tropical look so I mostly have tropical trees like palms, cycads, tree ferns, ficus and pandanus. My oldest cycads, pandanus & ming aralia are about 30 years old. Some of them you never see for sale anymore. I try to stay away from the currently trendy plants cuz the are so overpriced. Great videos, keep up the good work!

    Your green orange spider plant looks super healthy! I got this plant over summer (I know it as a fire flash plant) and was super excited about it however I’m having similar problems to what you described. It’s leaves are curling up and the tips are going brown and new leaves are browning completely quite quickly.
    I’m going to try taking it away from the window and change to watering it with filtered water in hopes that it will recover, if you have any more tips for this plant or would even consider doing a full video on its care needs I’d really appreciate it!! Much love :)

    Good morning from Canada!! I am still playing catch up with your videos, have learned quite a bit while watching. Loved this tour your plants seem happy and healthy. Just a couple of questions, why don't you have any african violets? I bought a couple of things that you recommended, the soil meter ( which I should have bought ages ago ) and the API stress coat. Could you give me some info about how much of the API I should use when watering my plants? At the moment I fill plastic jugs and let the water sit for minimum of 24 hours. My spider plants still get some black on their tips and my boston ferns are kind of meh also when you use the plastic growing pots ( that you put in other pots ) do you use a wick? If not, do you wait and then drain pot? As you can tell I am a wee bit confused about this, lol. Thank you for all the great info you provide and it is ok to smile once in a while!!!!

    • @SheffieldMadePlants
      @SheffieldMadePlants  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! Not that keen on violets to be honest. Add just a drop per litre of water of the API. No wicks in my pots. I tend to bottom water so just add water to the cache pot and let the plant wick up the water through the holes in the plastic pot

    Very nice collection :) I don't think I saw one but you don't have an Areca Palm? I just got one cheap in a garden centre and hoped you might have a video on them but can't see one ;)

    With your second windowsill attached, can you still open the window? I had similar idea but realized that the windows can't be opened.

    15 Pounds (₹1440) is dirt-cheap ? Seriously?
    Btw, those were Fittonia plants not Begonia that you were confusing with !
    Thanks for the tour. Love your videos. I wish you add a Meyer Lemon to your house someday. They're not tart, rather more Orange-alike.

      Think you need to figure out why the leaves are turning yellow otherwise the same thing will happen again. You should be able to cut it back

    Hey,.. Ordered a cordyline tango "cabbage palm??"..... Planning to place a couple (and half) of metres away from west face window..... Variegated, but not sure if that's enough light to help the colours stay vibrant.?..... Anything I've looked at has been cordyline plants in general and no specific for which type is better in bright indirect light or partial shade.?.... Ordered from ebay.... Just hoping it turns up in good condition in the 1st place.... Seller has 98%positive review.... Advice please for this specific type?!!!!

    • @SheffieldMadePlants
      @SheffieldMadePlants  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nice plant. Variegated plants tend to need more light. 2m from the window might be a little far. You can always try for a few weeks and see how it does

    Do you use moss if so which. Sphagnum moss is from peat so I don’t really want to use it.

      @@SheffieldMadePlants I thought it would help my plants. They were all healthy and happy now I’m losing them 1-1. I thought the moss would help keep in the moisture.

    • @SheffieldMadePlants

      @@kristinacallender-pryor1455 it retains moisture so it’s probably an overwatering thing. I’d just go for a good soil mix without moss
