If you look closely at the crowd running out of the theater you can see a lot of them laughing and smiling. They were having a great time doing that scene.
Not only that, but if you pay close attention, some of those extras come out of the theater twice. They must have filmed it a few times to get the right effect.
Each summer, Phoenixville, PA (the filming location of the Colonial Theatre) has a 3-day event called, "Blobfest" which consists of multiple screenings of The Blob and other films, a film competition, a scream contest, a street fair, and live entertainment. Nearly as good as a really bad movie? I was 15 years old when I saw this garbage in the Showboat Theater in Texas City, Texas. It got more laughs than screams.
I like that Jane stands up for herself, uncommon for those days. I saw this at or local small-town theatre when I was 8 or 9. The scene where the Blob "jumps up" onto the old man's arm scared the crap out of me. It still does to this day.
I loved this movie as a kid in the 70's on TV. Seen it a million times. It was in the rotation of Saturday morning scifi of 50's and 60's B scifi movies.
I went to see The Blob with my father and brother in 1958 at the Colonial Theater in Richmond, VA. We all recognized Steve Mcqueen from a weekly TV western series called Wanted Dead or Alive. This was his first movie. We didn't lock our doors or even think about it because we didn't have any crime, and nobody ever came in our house. We all liked the movie and our father found the record and bought it. I have never gotten tired of the song or watching the movie. Appreciate your reviewing The Blob.
@@Shadowman4710 True, but that's how acting works. Your job is to play something you aren't, not to play a role that is essentially you being typecast... and to do it in such a way that the audience can suspend it's disbelief. Few creature feature/Sci-fi films you should react to Them! (1954) , Tarantula (1955) , The Day of the Triffids (1963) and The Monolith Monsters (1957).
The Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954) is also a classic '50s creature feature. If I remember correctly, The first sequel, Revenge of the Creature (1955), has Clint Eastwood do a comedy bit in one of first scenes. Some probably disagree, but I think The Black Scorpion (1957) is a solid mid tier creature feature, as well.
I saw this at a Saturday matinee when I was about 12. Loved it. Later on I found out it was made independently in PA and was Steve McQueens first movie.
This movie used to scare the crap out of me as a child in the late 70s. I can imagine what it must’ve been like in the 50s. It’s one of my favorite classic movies. You should check out the remake. I think they said McQueen was 28ish at the time. Aneta Corsaut who played Jane, was on The Andy Griffith Show.
My favorite minor character in this was the old guy who was immediately up to fight and had the proper outfit for it. It got a good laugh out of me the first time I saw it.
Steve McQueen received $3,000 for this role. He was offered a lower amount if he would accept 10% of the profits. McQueen needed money for food and rent, and he thought the film would make no money. Against its $110,000 budget, the film made $4 million dollars. It looks like he could have made $400,000!🤯

THANK YOU for reacting to this movie!, I remember in the 1970's we had a film projector and we got a copy of this movie and played it on the wall in my house. (16MM film I think). I love this old movie.
That Chess scene at about 18:35 seems to echo one of the themes of the film, the idea that “there’s a rhyme and reason to things” and “wait and observe, and a deeper truth will reveal itself”, and seems to echo and relate to the character relationships.
The actress who played Jane also played Helen Crump, Opie's teacher and Andy's girlfriend in The Andy Griffith Show. I hope you'll check out more Steve McQueen movies.
"Mind the store" was a popular phrase at one time. It referred to any business or institution where someone was left behind to keep an eye on things. It's not meant to be taken literally.
Saw this at the theatre when it came out. Must have been 7 at the time. The scene where the blob eats the projectionist and then oozes out onto the audience scared the heck out of me! We had a vent on the landing in the stairwell and for a long time after that movie I imagined it coming through the vent and eating me....
I'm not sure how hard it is to find, but for a remake double feature you could watch Cat People (1942) and it's 1982 remake of the same name staring Nastassja Kinski, Malcolm McDowell, John Heard, and Annette O'Toole. I saw the remake in a theater when I was 14, and it grossed me out! I was physically queezy after it was over.

As cool as it is that this movie was filmed near me, the area is so different 50+ years later, that it’s basically unrecognizable. The theater is still there, but everything around the theater is different, the town is more of a tourist attraction these days.
Between the 1958 original and the 1988 remake there was the 1971 sequel, "Beware: The Blob!" which is on YT. It's different because it's comedy-horror, and the heroes are hippies so there is some good hippy humor. In all 3 the heroes are young guys and it's interesting to see how young guys changed every 15 years.
Got to see this at the colonial theater where they recorded the movie scene. Was a fun night doing the run out after the film. And of Ms Movies likes cheesy movie music from the 50’s/60’s you guys have to watch The Green Slime. The title song alone is worth it.
The Blob scared the crap out of me as a child. It was on TV circa 1969 and it absolutely traumatized me. For years I had nightmares and was terrified of seeing this movie again. Then…in 1972 they released a sequel directed by Larry Hagman and that started it all over again. The idea came about because they were trying to come up with something that was mineral based and not a regular organic monster. It was originally titled, “The Meteor Monster” or something close to that. It made a decent amount of money on a very meager budget. You guys are the ONLY reactors I’ve seen do this film. Congrats! I’d recommend “The Car” 1977 with James Brolin.
The sequel has been titled both “Son of Blob,” and “Beware The Blob.” The theme song is right up there with the original “Gamera” theme. “In all my 30 years I’ve never brought anyone up here.” The Blob movies always remind me of the Bill Cosby bit, “The Chicken Heart That Ate New York.”
One of my fondest childhood memories was seeing this on NYC's ABC affiliate it there daily 4:30 Movie of the day :D. McQueens' big-screen debut (billed as Steven) Song by Burt Bacharach (!). The remake is also top-notch and goes into that '80s remakes of '50s sci-fi classic trifecta including THE THING & THE FLY. As for other sci-fi '50s flix I also recommend THE INCREDIBLE SHRINKING MAN & ATTACK OF THE 50 FOOT WOMAN (and it's 90s remake).
I love 50s creature features, grew up with MonsterVision and dozens of these movies like Them(1954) and The Giant Claw(1957)! I remember reading a story from before this movie was made about explorers on Venus or Mercury fighting mountain sized blobs that roamed the planet. The Blob remake is one of the most underrated horror movies of all time, it is brutal.
It's great to see another reaction group react to the original movie and then follow it up with the remake to see just how things change 30 years apart! The original is a great family-friendly horror movie. Some parts may be scary, but it's overall a clean movie. The remake says "Okay. So.... You think you know The Blob? That old 50's film? Kinda scary but mmm... nothing special, right? Well... buckle up, and forget everything you remember cause nothing you know can prepare you for what you're gonna see."
1. Mr. You me & movies FANTASTIC shirt and 2. EXCELLENT parenting. She is just adorable and she is learning her actions have consequences. Oh and great review as always. 😀
Jack H. Harris was a film producer who often ended his movies with a question mark after "The End". Two movies he bought and distributed were Equinox (1970) made by young filmmakers who would go on to do bigger stuff like Star Wars. It's Evil Dead, before Evil Dead. Another film is Dark Star (1974) created and directed by John Carpenter and Dan O'Bannon (Alien). It's a funny dark comedy that shows early ideas that would later become the movie Alien. Both would make good reactions of big filmmakers in their early college years. You can even throw in THX 1138 for George Lucas.
I needed some 50's Sci fi to liven up my day and lo and behold here i am ! a classic and of course it's cheesy 🧀 i caught a free outdoor screening of this and the audience was giggling at quite a few scenes but everyone was having a good time 😃 hopefully Mr and Mrs Movies will watch more Steve McQueen movies where he really grows into an action star and screen icon The Great Escape , Bullitt and The Thomas Crown affair are among my favorites of his . Cheers for doing this . ✊
Mary Kay & Johnny first couple married in real life. Was a 1947/48 situation comedy. And indeedy The Flintstones shared a big stone bed too in animation 1960 or 61.
The 1988 movie is one of the rare cases of a remake done right. Movies like "The Thing", Invaders From Mars", "The Fly", "Invasion of the Body Snatchers", and "The Mummy" also fit this category. It added much needed gore effects and shock that made it a near perfect horror movie. The YT channel GoodBadFlicks did a great review of the 1988 movie and comparison to the original. I can't wait for you guys to watch it.
You should enjoy the remake as much if not more. It's still cheesy, but given the premise of the movie, there's not much that can be done. Steve McQueen, I think he probably looked old when he was born, the dude seemed to always look the same. lol His son Chad, did have a small role in The Karate Kid playing character Dutch. Anyway, you should enjoy the remake, often forgotten about movie, but still good.
Lucy & Ricky were the first couple to sleep in the same bed *nationally* in 1955. However the very first tv sitcom that wasn't really seen much outside of NY called Mary Kay and Johnny had the first couple to share a bed *and* show the wife pregnant in 1947. This sitcom racked up a lot of firsts. Easy to do when you are literally the first sitcom in the history of television. Mary Kay and Johnny Stearns were married in real life. That perhaps allowed folks to not get too worked up about them sharing a bed. Or working Mary Kay's pregnancy into the show. (Sorry, I Love Lucy was not the first to do that.) Steve McQueen was 27 when they filmed this. McQueen had a tv show called Wanted: Dead or Alive (1958-1961). Movies: Bullitt Magnificent Seven Great Escape The Towering Inferno The Great St. Louis Bank Robbery The Getaway Lots more as well.
I'll give you guys some credit. At least you'll do movies no other reactor will touch. Being original is cool.

Never seen the original only remake. This looks interesting. Will have to check it out.
The guy on the poster with the phone looks like he's asking: "Blob! I'm ordering Dominoes, whadda you want, how hungry are you?" 😂😂
Did you just hit us with a Lil Jon & the East Side Boyz line from the song "Get Low"....Awesome! LOL!!!
Got to see this at the colonial theater where they recorded the movie scene. Was a fun night doing the run out after the film.
And of Ms Movies likes cheesy movie music from the 50’s/60’s you guys have to watch The Green Slime. The title song alone is worth it.
Yasssss do Green Slime
I love the interaction with your daughter…..❤ She is so cute. 😊 You seem like very good parents.
The sequel has been titled both “Son of Blob,” and “Beware The Blob.” The theme song is right up there with the original “Gamera” theme.
“In all my 30 years I’ve never brought anyone up here.”
The Blob movies always remind me of the Bill Cosby bit, “The Chicken Heart That Ate New York.”
The Car with james Brotlin, beyond the door, devil hound, and them
I love The Car.
Invaders From Mars was also a remake during the same period in the 80s.
"Mind the store" means take over while I am away.
1. Mr. You me & movies FANTASTIC shirt and 2. EXCELLENT parenting. She is just adorable and she is learning her actions have consequences. Oh and great review as always. 😀
minding the store just means take care of things while I’m gone
I needed some 50's Sci fi to liven up my day and lo and behold here i am !
a classic and of course it's cheesy 🧀 i caught a free outdoor screening of this and the audience was giggling at quite a few scenes but everyone was having a good time 😃
hopefully Mr and Mrs Movies will watch more Steve McQueen movies where he really grows into an action star and screen icon
The Great Escape , Bullitt and The Thomas Crown affair are among my favorites of his .
Cheers for doing this .
✊
My mother was the age of the boy in the movie when she watched it. She was so traumatized, to this day, she won't watch horror movies
You daughter was really trying to cut a deal for some snackos...lol.
That’s what kids do when they get in trouble. I speak from experience when i was a kid
"Watch the store" is a common idiom. When I was a newspaper reporter, we called it "The Cop Shop"
50's horror? You have got to do "THEM".
There's a lot of comments but no-one has mentioned THE most important thing in the entire video . . . . Now i want a Bluey t-shirt !!!
Gotta love how our chat just devolved into nerding out over movie monster death matches. :D
Lucy & Ricky were the first couple to sleep in the same bed *nationally* in 1955. However the very first tv sitcom that wasn't really seen much outside of NY called Mary Kay and Johnny
had the first couple to share a bed *and* show the wife pregnant in 1947. (Sorry, I Love Lucy was not the first to do that.)
Steve McQueen was 27 when they filmed this. McQueen had a tv show called Wanted: Dead or Alive (1958-1961).
Movies: Bullitt
Magnificent Seven
Great Escape
The Towering Inferno
The Great St. Louis Bank Robbery
The Getaway
Lots more as well.
I think the blob came from Uranus lol.
Oh The Blob 2 or Son of Blob? Anyway you get to see "the movie that J.R. shot". 🧐
