  • Reborn 90s hot hatch icon - Lancia Delta Integrale Restomod Maturo Stradale review. The new Maturo Stradale is a Lancia Delta Integrale Reborn in carbon-fibre as a Retro Resto-mod. In this exclusive first drive review Jonny Smith gets behind the wheel of the original Integrale Evo 1, is given a detailed tour of the Maturo workshops in Holland, and then discovers what a €340,000 reborn ultimate Integrale feels like.
Thanks for stopping by The Late Brake Show.
Maturo Cars www.maturocars.com/ have over 25 years in prepping and building classic rally cars, but now specialise in the boxy 6-time WRC winning Lancia Delta Integrale. You can have your original car tweaked or repaired by them, or they can build you a Group A FIA-approved rally car. Or.... in the case of the Stradale.... you can commission a road car which is effectively a Group A rally Integrale under the skin, but with modern upgrades, a level of comfort and the finest fit and finish to what was a fairly badly built homologation car.

An aunts husband had an og Lancia Delta 1300 , used it to pull a caravan, which then pulled the engine to bits by the end of a summers journeys, towing the caravan. So by 6mnths old it was dead, literally. They scrapped it as the shell was splitting as well.

I'm not someone that's typically impressed by restomods or any 100k+ car, but THIS is now my dream car! If I ever win the Euromillions, I'd immediately order one of these! It's 100% authentic and perfect in every way. THIS is how you do a restomod. Just needs the Martini stripes or even the Totip stripes😄

Once apon a time I used to eagerly wait for a certain TV programme on Sunday night on BBC2. Love or hate the lanky northerner, bumbling but knowledgeable eccentric or my fellow short arsed Brummie, because there was going to be an hour of pure petrol sniffing heaven. Obviously once the lanky one tw@tted a co worked things on Sunday dramatically changed and I had to fill my life up with more mundane thing such as walking the dog in the rain or talking to the enemy. But now all has changed thanks to the late brake show, particularly articles like this and barn finds. Thank you for changing my life Jonny.

Never, NEVER underestimate the level of obsession that can be generated by a whiff of perfection - it could be a car, a perfectly cooked dish of delicious food, a piece of art, a house, a piece of clothing or a sublime, skin tingling experience that engraves itself into your memory. Crazy? Maybe - ridiculous? Yes - relatable? Absolutely! You can now rebuild almost any car (or anything for that matter) from scratch, with brand new components that are worlds away from their original examples. Not everyone's style or cup of tea but it's possible. I love it - thanks again Jonny!

20+ year Integrale owner. There isn't a day I don't drive it that it doesn't fetch huge attention but I say to most that ask questions while at the petrol pump...Its a nice little car but its nothing spectacular. Yes it does handle absolutely brilliantly. It truly does but I agree with everything the Marco says. Its quite often a little bit underwhelming in many ways but then again its a bloody old machine now.. Like you said Jonny nostalgia is a very powerful thing. Great content.

Yes we all know it's an expensive Delta but what you don't see is the time and knowledge and dedication that went into the Maturo to get it up to this high standard, a group A rally weapon for the road, so a Lancia factory rally car but than tailor made for you to drive on the normal road instead of a rally stage. I do hope the Maturo will make it to this years Italian car show Brooklands so we can all enjoy this amazing Delta. Thank you Jonny for another super vid on your channel. I never (fully) got the Lancia Delta Intergrale thing… until I drove once last November for a video. I couldn’t believe how relatively fast it still felt and planted on the road. Whilst this seems a bit of a rich indulgence, if I had the money and the original wasn’t enough, of course I have one! It’s as if the development had continued!

I have had my Delta Integrale 16v for 12 years now, and absolutely love it. You hear a lot people commenting on that they couldn’t understand the hype around the road handling. If after a run, you get out of the car without sweat dripping from you, you’re not fatigued, and the car does not smell of hot oil and petrol. Then you have driven it wrong! It may look like a delicate little thing by today’s standards. But it is an aggressive car that needs to be driven aggressively.

This made me a bit misty eyed as it brought back memories of my HF Turbo which I purchased as a 25 year old in 1987. I absolutely loved that car even if the electric windows didn't always go back up and the rust started to eat it even with Dinitrol protection. It was white with Martini stripes and lowered suspension so in my mind almost an Integrale. I did 10's of thousands of happy miles in it until an unfortunate accident on a dark and stormy night 9 years later, a most spectacular crash which completely destroyed the car but I did get £400 for the engine.

Lancia / Fiat know how to build a Turbo car they are the masters of the small displacement Turbocharged engine! "Look at the Delta, Uno, Y10 and the 500" Add to that what these guys are doing and I frankly find it amazing! My last 500 Abarth was pushing 250bhp and was told by a contact I know at Abarth UK on the engineering team, He said the engine was good for 300BHP without upgrading the internals as they had Teflon liners! and were well over engineered. My old '88 UNO turbo i:e boosted to silly amounts back in 1998 and would see most hot hatches off back then. FIAT / LANCIA / ALFA are all legendary just ignore the general build quality as that has always been poo!! When I started as an apprentice mechanic in '95 I was told Fiats are all engine and gearbox and no bodywork lol!! It's true!

I went to a huge breakers yard in France to buy one, must be 25 years ago, it was sold the day before sadly, it was still in the yard and had quite light damage, easy enough repair. It was a fair wad of cash still, but very much affordable for a builder like me.
So I have sat in one and made vroom vroom noises, but at this point in car collecting where a RS500 can sell for 600 grand, that is as near as I will ever come to owning one, or ever getting close enough to touch one again.
