Great Tutorial! Was able to diagnose and replace part with the help of these videos. Set the laptop next to unit so I could pause as needed and probably saved $500 in labor charges. I will go with Pioneer for future units as needed in other projects.
Thanks for this video! I had to replace the blower because a kid stuck a pencil and broke the plastic blades, since I never registered my unit (4th one I've purchased btw that I've installed myself). I called Pioneer Customer Service direct trying to purchase a replacement blower, but they sent it to me for free! That was a relief! Several people have stated having difficulty lifting the heat exchanger to remove the motor . First off , I didn't even disconnect any of the wires, I just suspended the electronics from the wall with a piece of stiff wire and a drywall screw and if you also remove the screws on the opposite side from the motor, the heat exchanger can be tilt out of the way to pull out either the motor itself, the blower or the bearing. Easy peasy! Thank you again for posting this!
Your video saved me much aggravation performing a deep clean on my unit. I did still throw a few curses still but the tranquil music on your video calmed me down so I was able to get through it and get everything back together again. A definite 5/5 stars!
Purchased: August 2023 - still works GREAT!I th-cam.com/users/postUgkxxsUnXhGsSJLim_XnMHyQK0u3XVaW-CGn live in a studio and during the summer it gets scorching hot - really old building with no ac units. I can’t express how EASY it was to install. This unit has been a life savior during the summer and some days during other seasons where it can still be a bit warm at night. In this small place is my friend, a husky, poodle mix and myself. We need AC - lolI don’t use the dehumidifier option - I’m not sure if it will leak in my house, since I did not install the small draining hose that came with it. May look into it late but I don’t worry about much humidity in the apartment. I don’t understand why the negative reviews since all things mentioned, I personally did not find issues with. Definitely worth it!
*Solid, **Fastly.Cool** and gets the job done. For rooms where window-mounted air conditioning is not an option, this works very well. Easy set up, rapid cooling, and great design.*
Great Video. I have 5 of these units in my home , one unit in my garage. I live in Arizona . The summers are brutal here (100 days of 100degree F + temps) . The units run 24 hours a day , all summer long. May thru October. Two of my units have bad fan motors They are making a rumbling sound. The units are two years old. Both are one ton units (12,000 BTU). I have installed dozens of these units for friends and family here in Arizona. Pioneer Mini Splits, are fantastic, reliable, very efficient. Super easy to install. The kits are “ready to go”. I have always experienced great customer support. Please don’t let anyone’s unverified , negative comments dis sway you. These units will become commonplace in the USA. I think the days of people spending $8,000 - $12,000 on an HVAC system will become a rare occurrence. People are smart,, seeking Reliability and Value
No thank you. Going through the maintenance on this is a pain in the ass. I rather pay thousand of dollars for hvac that I don't have to touch for 20 years
So helpful. Was able to complete the swap after watching this. Unfortunately, this seems to be a common problem with pioneer. Mine went bad after less than 60 days of use.
Thank you for posting this. I'm in my late 60's and did this in a little over an hour. I also thoroughly cleaned the inside when it was apart. Without this video it would have probably taken me a day Thanks again
My next mini split is definitely going to be one that has an easy access to blower wheel and drain pan. Where I live the blower wheel is going to need annual cleaning maintenance.
We absolutely LOVE our Pioneer! I have it due to medical reasons in just my room so our whole house doesn’t have to meet my needs and therefore a huge HVAC bill. Best purchase ever and easy to install for anyone handy.
The best video out there for assembly/disassembly of this type of mini-split. I have a Bryant (a.k.a. Carrier) dual-head system and I was able to disassemble both heads and fully disinfect/clean all the internal components (blower fan, drip plate, internal plastic parts). My mini splits were giving off some pretty gross smells when they flipped from A/C to fan (once the room had cooled down to the set temp), and doing this fully fixed the problem. I had the system installed about 3 years ago, so I anticipate this is something I'd want to do every few years, and the cheapest I could hire an HVAC professional to perform a deep clean was for $500. Give it a try!
I really appreciate your post. It helped me so much when replacing motor. I referred to it several time until i got it back together. Finally, no more noise!
Thank You For the Video it was real helpful ! I had to change out my fan motor on my unit which was installed in 2020 . The motor was making a Whirling sound. The hardest part was taken the screws and bracket off the coil ,the screws were a little corroded and were in really tight .The Bracket is hard to figure out ,but with a little time I was able to figure it out . My Unit is now quiet again 😀 I have 3 pioneers in my home all work great !!! What would be helpful is if Pioneer had a Parts catalogue so you could order parts based on your model.
Thanks for the video it was a time saver seeing it done before taking it myself. Just wish these motors had a longer life span! Less than 2 years and it is screaming loader than my tinnitus!!!
Thank you for the video! It did help me get everything completed with only one screw and the cover that goes over the plugs left in my shirt pocket. At the end. I double check the video and the demonstration person also forgot the cover... At least it is working and no longer loud from the bad bearings. I'll save the parts in case there's a next time!
I just used this video to take my blower out to clean it, I had some problem keeping the coils high enough to remove the metal guard so I left it in place after I removed the screws. I then undid the set screw and pulled out the blower from the non-motor side. It was a bit of a pain as my unit is above a stair opening in my tiny loft but I have a platform I made to go under it. I love my unit and it does a great job at keeping my loft cool, even though my loft is inside a metal shop in the south.
My air-con use for 14 years & recently go Panasonic service center bought 1 new remote controller & filter & i intend to use it for another 5-10 years 😊.
Great video. Mine is horribly noisy after 1.5 years of use. Can you offer a better quality replacement motor.? I do not want to do tear this thing apart again in less than 2 years.
I really appreciate the video it is done very well and is very helpful. But Pioneer needs to be take responsibility for using phillips heads on the final 8 screws where hex heads would have made more sense. My system is 7 years old and one of the screws is so rusted that it will not come out! I have been turning wrenches for over 50 years working on muscle cars and race motorcycles and have extracted many screws but this is the absolute worst situation I have ever seen! No method can even be attempted let alone work due to the sensitivity of the evaporator and depth of the screw! Not sure I am going to buy anymore Pioneer products. At least use stainless for this application! Thank you again Pioneer Mini Split Store for the great video!
I was able to follow the instructions to disassemble and reassemble. However, I got stuck at 6:45 putting the metal bracket back in. I am currently stuck on the step to insert the wires back in at 9:15. The wires are not easily going into the sockets and are loose. Any advice?
The only thing I had trouble with is there is a plastic tab on the metal ring next to the motor housing. You have to depress it to separate the ring from the housing. It took me over an hour to figure out why the ring would not seperate from the motor housing.
Me too!! I didn’t fool with it, I snatched the metal piece out still tied to the plastic motor housing. It came out as one price reinstalled it the same.
I recently went through a similar process to replace the blower wheel on my unit and it is definitely not as easy as they make it look. I actually wasn't able to get the bracket out even after messing with it for hours because it has several random chunks of metal for unused screw holes that interfere with the U shaped loops on the right side of the coil, so I ended up lifting the left side of the coil and replacing the blower wheel through that side, which worked much better. The left side of the coil lifts much easier and higher because there are no lines on that side. It's obvious that this unit didn't have the lines connected to the coil judging by how freely it moved compared to reality. The screws for the bracket were pretty badly rusted on mine after 5 years of use and didn't want to budge, but I was eventually able to get them out undamaged by soaking them with penetrating oil and carefully heating them with a butane torch. It doesn't help that you have to use the screwdriver at an awkward sideways angle on several of the screws because the lines are in the way. Whatever you do, do NOT strip out the screws or this job will become a nightmare. Once I got the screws out, I cleaned them up and coated them with anti seize before reinstalling them in case I have to take them out again in the future. Finally, I'd highly recommend wearing safety glasses and/or pumping down the unit before starting this job just in case you break a line. Although pretty unlikely if you are careful, it's definitely possible with this job and the possibility of -55 degree liquid refrigerant and oil spraying everywhere at 200+ PSI isn't a risk to ignore or take lightly. Unless you are very mechanically talented and have the time and patience to mess with a tedious, delicate, and nearly impossible job for hours, you may be better off hiring a professional to do this job for you, especially considering the unavoidable risk of breaking a refrigerant line trying to move the coil around at odd angles.
I am on my THIRD fan motor. Bearings in these motors fail and they start making noise - squealing, rattling, or squeaking. Pioneer needs to change suppliers and get better quality control.
Part of the reason why the units are so cheap compared to other quality mfg's like mitsubishi and fujitsu. My fan has been defective from the box with an irritating ticking-like noise on anything but the highest speed. In fact most of these blower style fans seem to have this problem..
Which brand is the most reliable and most importantly easy to maintain and replace parts? I'm about to break the whole thing with a hammer trying to put the metal shroud back in. This is just horrible
My Midea 12k mini split heat pump blower fan runs too slow to cool the room, even on high. The Turbo setting is the only speed that works ok, but then it times out after a few minutes. It's been like this from brand new, frustrating because the unit never gets to set point in a reasonable amount of time. This "Pioneer" looks identical. Any insight would be appreciated.
thats great, but where can i find the motor first in order to replace it these days. we have a room with one of these and the fan sounds like a dead power steering pump just WHRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR all day
I have a Lennox branded version of these units - the indoor unit started making a noise after 1 year, replacement indoor unit did the same thing. Is this a common issue with the unit?!
BTW the fan is perfectly silent now. (you can only hear air moving on high) The company sent me a new motor for free even though I had not registered my unit.
Theses are the same thing as the Daizuki I have, I mean they look exactly the same! You really don't have to disconnect the main wiring if you are careful, just the couple of plugs off the control board. You should disconnect power before working on them.
This is a good video, it shows, gives basic way to remove motor. But mine a 12000 btu heat pump is a little different, it would be nice if you show removal of cover on electric box in unit. Also its much easier when u use a brand new unit. My motor shaft is stuck in bushing in fan. Its a bit rusty but its really stuck! Thanks
Pioneer has been good unit but less than 2.5 years and the blower motor wnt bad! To me 5 years and I would be ok with that. I had Aircon brand for 8 and nothing went bad till the control board went, i replaced entire unit with this Pioneer, better deal price wise!
My motor stopped after ~1.5 months or so and I got an "E3" error message. Highseer's tech support was great, he sent a new motor, however shipping must have kicked the box under a workbench since it took over a month from "shipment created" to "sent." The motor replacement was extremely frustrating, even with this video. My heat exchanger did not want to move like that and the design of that little metal bracket is obnoxious. The plastic motor cover simply would not release with the angles I was allowed (because my heat exchanger wouldn't move as much). I also had to break the black spacer out, it would not come out, period. Fired right up after I replaced it.
Are the motors interchangeable between 24k and 12k wall units? My 12k motor died and I'm waiting on a replacement part (backordered and its HOT in Maui). I just replaced a 24k with 2x 18k - so I have a spare 24k unit lying around and don't want to waaiiitttt.....
Hi Tucker, sorry to hear that happened to you. The issue has since been corrected at the factory once the solution was discovered, and any units that happen to experience this motor problem are fully covered with regards to parts, technical support, and our warranty guarantee.
How do you clean these things? Mine is making a high pitched ringing sound. I can't sleep at night because of it. I even go to the couch at night it's so bad.
Hi Amy, sorry to hear you're experiencing that. That is quite unusual and you shouldn't have to go through that especially since it will most likely be a simple fix. You can try to clean the air filters after removing them (1:15 of this video) to see if that solves your problem. Your unit's user manual has details regarding this. You can also call our support staff for advice anytime on weekdays from 9-6 eastern time and they'll do their best to diagnose the problem for you.
The high pitched ringing is the motor. My heat pump condenser unit went out while I was away. Smoked the wires. High Seer was great and sold me a new unit at a greatly reduced rate. System is 3 years old and has been operating pretty much non stop heat and air 24/7 since it was installed . While I was at it a bought spare parts just in case of failure on the indoor unit. Spare condenser fan motor (outside) condenser control box and inside fan since it appeared to be a little noisier (high pitched ringing) than it was when first installed. Happened gradually until the point it was unacceptable. Just got done replacing the inside unit motor and works as advertised. Took about two hours just being careful to get it right and not break anything. If I ever have to do it again it will take less than half of that. This is actually a pretty good video for what it is. The hardest part of the whole project was removing the metal mounting plate. I actually trimmed a piece off of the backside edge that was what was binding up and making it so hard to remove. If you're not mechanically inclined I would hire someone to replace the motor for you. Otherwise go for it. High pitched ringing is gone.
The music is nice. The job is not as it is portrayed. Those connecters and wedges do not snap out quite so easily after 3 years in service. Neither do those rusted screws, and if you damage the head, good luck to you. And the video is spliced so you dont see searching for screws that drop. Easy to fall down drain. I lost main computer board after 2 years, fan motor bad at 2.5. It is a shame we cant engineer these things so easier to repair and clean. No sense in all this work to replace motor. Not so sure I will buy or recommend.
Same issues with the board and fan. Screws rusted too. I had to use impact driver and it zipped them out. Concerned about repairs at 7-10 years. My dads central a/c lasted 30 years. Dont think these are going to make it. It took 5 months to order the board.
Fan motor was making a buzzing noise. Poor cooling performance. Pressure fine on refrigerant line. Called Pioneer got a new motor. New motor silent more or less. The problem is that fan speed appears to be inconsistent. If i leave it on long enough it will eventually fall behind warming the coils and freeze up. If i open the cover it starts blowing well again. Sometimes it works fine for hours and then air output gets weak again followed by eventual freezing. Filters are clean. Any ideas pioneer? Does the bimetal thermistor die? Is that wired piece you pull out of the right side control fan speed maybe? Oh and forgot to mention that this is basically the same symptom as before fan replacement. So likely that is not the issue.
I’ve got the same issue. I’ve Had in for about 6 months. I have 2 units In my house. One of them is blowing inconsistently and freezing up when speed on low. Blows better when I open the cover. Does that mean it’s a motor issue?
Hey guys. Sounds like you are low on freon and have a leak. I had the same issues and hooked up my gauges and it was about 50-60psi. I ordered freon on amazon and charged her back up to 125psi. I have to add freon once a year. I need to track down the leak but it small.
Def not refrigerant. Refrigerant is charged correctly. I got some dc computer fans and wired them to an ac adapter and put them on top of the intake, works fine now. Bit lame though.
This video was a good guide however, it is 1000% NOT as easy as a show it in this video. I’m a professional mechanic by trade and getting the (4) screw metal plate and motor cover back on was a nightmare. Pro tip for the DIYer. Take pics every step during dissemble. During re install the (4) screw metal plate has a bunch of extra screw hole tabs that are not being used. Mark the screw holes that you use with black marker and when you go to reinstall, cut off the unused screw hole tabs as well as the back metal fin/tab that tucks behind the blower motor cover.. it will make getting this plate back on way easier.
Well the only difference is, this is an inverter AC. The fact is, if you are capable of unscrewing all from 2 to 8 screws after an year or two, most of the screw heads behaves unfriendly with the s.drivers.😃
Lucky me.. Am about to service my midea ac and don't know how to remove the blower. Then this one so identical to midea ac. No wonder I can't find any screw holding blower from inside. Have to remove all 8 screw. 😄😄
Thanks for the video, I tried to clean mine, it is still very noisy. Can you please tell me what fan to buy for: ws018gmfl17hld and give me a source to buy? Thanks
Hello Jeff, you can give us a call at 305-513-4488 and we will gladly assist you with this. All the parts would come from ourselves and it is not something we have listed online.
@@immaculaterik Thanks, I called highseer the day before you responded and they facilitated a motor getting to me. It works well now, it took about 3 hours, I was perhaps a little too careful removing the metal cover that holds the motor cover down, I would bend the bottom rear two tabs up if I had to do it again, and I felt hesitant to lift the coils as high as I needed to. Thanks again.
@@jawharris Thank you , one of mine indoor units makes noise but I have installed the multi split system 3 years ago and do not think that I can get a warranty repair
Sure would have been helpful to hear the noise or whatever the reason the fan was replaced Perhaps it was only a bearing ? We will never know from this video..
Hi Sir, You can typically tell if your fan motor needs to be replaced when your unit is displaying either an "E3" error code, or if "88" is flashing continuously. There aren't many visual or noise-related signs that would immediately suggest the need for replacement otherwise. Feel free to give us a call if you suspect this may be necessary for your unit!
@@pioneerminisplit8547 Mine is exhibiting a rumbling out of round type noise... quite noticeable, but does not show any codes on the unit. It certainly sounds like a bearing either from the fan motor or at the other end of the squirrel cage. Almost sounds like the cage has somehow gotten out of round. We are coming in the type of weather ( early/late spring ) when it would be most economical to operate it. Can't figure why it isn't throwing some kind of code.
@@ngzcaz This can be indication of a bad bearing on that fan motor; I would recommend reaching out to Parts Department and they can assist with getting this resolved.
bhai mera ac fan noise krta har 2 3 second bad taiz sound deta phr thek ho jata countine aisay hi kr raha one week sy koi soloution bata do ya contact numbr dy do
You will be better off to remove the inside unit all together. Work on it detached, much easier. The video they supply to replace the fan motor does not represent the unit I have although Pioneer says it will match up, not so. I have 2 Pioneer units with bad fan motors making a racket. I will never ever buy another thing from Pioneer or the parent company. They sell junk and don't stand behind their products.
At 5:02 it's shown that your metal bracket is lifting up together with heat exchanger like it's a part independent from the shroud (fan motor cover). On my unit (shroud is gray actually) the metal bracket feels like it's attached to the shroud so lifting the exchanger up as little as I could wouldn't affect position of the metal bracket, it still would be dead on that plastic shroud. So I have no idea how to remove that piece..
I had the same problem. Be lifting the left side of the exchanger I was finally able to get some space to get the right side lifted up enough to finally get the bracket off. That was, by far, the most difficult part. It will eventually slide up and out of the fan plastic piece.
Very poor design!!!!!! Way too much screws(8 of them) to hold down the evaporating coil near the blower fan motor!!!!! Take too long to remove and replace them!!!!!! This brand is certainly not in my list for the next AC!!!!!!!!
After you remove the fan motor can you easily remove the blower wheel as well? PS. I was able to remove the blower wheel right after the motor. Now I've been trying to put the metal shroud back in (6:36) for over 30 minutes with no luck. Whoever made that piece of design should go to jail.

If there's no clearance on the left side I don't think you can remove blower that way.

Thanks!
In fact most of these blower style fans seem to have this problem..
same with TGM they arr so bad
Which brand is the most reliable and most importantly easy to maintain and replace parts? I'm about to break the whole thing with a hammer trying to put the metal shroud back in. This is just horrible
The fact that this video has 291,386 views means alot about the quality of the unit...
We provide this video as a reference point for taking apart the indoor unit for cleaning :)
Right. Its just to show how to "clean" the blower..not that it screams like a banshee on low speed. Arrrghhh.
I need a video for replacing the evaporator coil. My unit is leaking and it has been since I purchased it in July of 2019.
Any insight would be appreciated.
same here, did you ever figure out why it times out?
thats great, but where can i find the motor first in order to replace it these days. we have a room with one of these and the fan sounds like a dead power steering pump just WHRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR all day
I have a Lennox branded version of these units - the indoor unit started making a noise after 1 year, replacement indoor unit did the same thing. Is this a common issue with the unit?!
BTW the fan is perfectly silent now. (you can only hear air moving on high) The company sent me a new motor for free even though I had not registered my unit.

This was a great help.Thanks!
Where is the thermostatic expansion valve located inside the indoor unit , please clear my doubt
My motor stopped after ~1.5 months or so and I got an "E3" error message. Highseer's tech support was great, he sent a new motor, however shipping must have kicked the box under a workbench since it took over a month from "shipment created" to "sent."
The motor replacement was extremely frustrating, even with this video.
I can't lift up the heat exchanger like in this video either. What did you end up doing?
@@LibtardsTears Seems like I had to break a little bracket with pure force. It was terrible.
Is this similar to an LG model?
Hi
Pls why did you have to remove metal bracket while motor plastic could easily slide out
Where can I purchase the blower motor in the USA?
I'm looking as well
Are the motors interchangeable between 24k and 12k wall units? My 12k motor died and I'm waiting on a replacement part (backordered and its HOT in Maui). I just replaced a 24k with 2x 18k - so I have a spare 24k unit lying around and don't want to waaiiitttt.....
Can you tell me the price of the new motor
Please can I get the link where can I buy the replacement fan motor? I need to change my.

My motor stopped working after 2 weeks?? After doing some research this seems like a common issue with this unit.
Hi Tucker, sorry to hear that happened to you. The issue has since been corrected at the factory once the solution was discovered, and any units that happen to experience this motor problem are fully covered with regards to parts, technical support, and our warranty guarantee.
We're from you
yep, my granny was right.. ya gets what ya pay for!
Couple of things removed that were not necessary to be removed. The main power wires, the bracket on the coil.
You're saying I didn't have to remove the metal bracket? 🤦♂️
Where do you get the fan motors?
Where do you purchase the motor?
From pioneer mini split web site. Just call or chat with them. Or online from 3d parties..
My 9k head is making a noise im sure will end up getting worse over time. Ill br tsking it apart and verifying everything is tight here shortly.
Nice video sir 👌👌👌👌👌

How can rectify?
Where can I get the replacement motor?
You'll need your indoor unit model number: www.highseer.com/collections/parts-1
Sir Congratulations Very Nice .
Nice bosing!
Thank You for this info
Gahhh, I got through all the steps, turned it on and it sounds like the fan is making contact with the heat exchanger 😫
Lucky me.. Am about to service my midea ac and don't know how to remove the blower. Then this one so identical to midea ac. No wonder I can't find any screw holding blower from inside. Have to remove all 8 screw. 😄😄
Good job
Wonderful!
Nice video👌👌👌👌
This body is new so now u removed easily ,but after 2 year or 3year this method wrong
What is the price of motor?
@@andreycham4797 They didn't charge me. I don't know the reason, maybe because I have used them 4 times?
@@jawharris Thank you , one of mine indoor units makes noise but I have installed the multi split system 3 years ago and do not think that I can get a warranty repair
Sure would have been helpful to hear the noise or whatever the reason the fan was replaced Perhaps it was only a bearing ? We will never know from this video..
Hi Sir,
You can typically tell if your fan motor needs to be replaced when your unit is displaying either an "E3" error code, or if "88" is flashing continuously.

Man, what a pain in the ass.
Nice 1
Good work
Ilearn something new
At 5:02 it's shown that your metal bracket is lifting up together with heat exchanger like it's a part independent from the shroud (fan motor cover).
There is a plastic tab on the motor housing which keeps it locked to the metal bracket. You have to depress it to seperate the two pieces.
Thank you sir
Thanks alot
