For years, I couldn't make a good beef roast, and I love it. Finally, I learned to braise it, and it's super easy and fast to prep. I preheat my oven to 350. Then on the stove, I heat up my favorite enamel-coated cast iron pot. In a couple TBSP of oil, I brown the roast all over, then I add beef stock about 3/4 up the sides. Then I add salt, pepper, a sprinkle of garlic powder across the top, and a capful of Worcestershire sauce. Then I cover it and pop it in the oven for about 2 hours, or until it's falling apart. Then while the roast rests covered on the cutting board, I boil down the cooking liquid until the bubbles stack up, and I whisk in a slurry of lukewarm water and flour (make this slurry the consistency of melted ice cream) until the gravy thickens. It's soooo good, the beef and gravy with mashed potatoes!
I like seeing the girls at the table, don't know why i just do😊, and you guys, Matt and Austin, take you hat off at the table! That showing respect and appreciation for the person who prepared the meal you are about to enjoy 😊 It's a long family tradition for my family

I’ve been watching old videos all day of y’all bc I miss y’all- I know that sounds crazy but it’s just me and the kids here all day and I love y’all .. made your cube steaks for dinner for the second time and my goodness they are good!! ❤ all good wishes to y’all and can’t wait to see a grand baby soon!
@alannagilmore8982 doesn’t sound crazy at all ❤ I listen to Tipper’s cooking videos at night to go to go to sleep. They are so relaxing and feel like home.
Amazing to me that some people find it strange to see a family sit down for dinner other than special occasions. We did since I was born until my Dad's Parkinson's disease got bad enough to necessitate us staying in the living room with him. I love family meals when you talk about your day, what you learned at school or work, who you may have heard was sick, just anything and everything. I think families would be smart to start that with their young kids so it's an everyday way to talk, laugh, and stay connected. Good video!
It’s a pretty normal thing up here in Canada and I don’t know anyone who doesn’t do family dinner on a regular basis. In my house I have four teenagers who all either work after school or are in university so family dinners just aren’t feasible at the moment but when we can we do. That’s all that matters right ?❤
When my daughter was in high school we always had a table full of kids she invited to eat. Her friends would ask her if she had to sit at the table every night. She was so surprised, she said “if you eat a meal in our house you have to sit at the table, too.” We ate off China dishes, her friends ate off paper plates. Today she is grown and at her house we eat at a table with dishes. It brings the family together.
That meal sure looks yummy! It is so nice to see a family eat together. Praying for Katie and baby, quick easy delivery. God bless the whole family too.
Can’t go wrong with Henkel knives. We’ve had ours for over 30 years. The way Matt takes care of knives they’ll last a lifetime. I know you don’t have a dishwasher which destroys any utility knife. We use our dishwasher all the time and never put the knives in. I like the improvised onion soup mix method. Thank you for sharing that. As always, I enjoyed my time with you guys!❤️🙏🇨🇦
Thank you for sharing how to make the lipton onion soup!!! It's to expensive to buy!!! Especially when you have all of the ingredients!!! God Bless Us All!!!
Another scrumptious meal, Tipper - something you are definitely good at. Slow cookers were sure a great thing to help the busy homemaker! Blessing to all. Praying the 'countdown' for Katie & her 'lil bit' continues to go well.
I love this video, especially because of all the bloopers!! Tipper you were 100% having a day! 😂Thank you for the delicious recipe and for the laughs ❤
If you have just the right amount of flour, mixed in the cornbread, it won’t crumble as much. I usually fry my cornbread, but oven baked is great too!!! All of your suppers remind me of my childhood in Tennessee! I love watching you cook.
Dear Tipper, I have learned so much about my own family history, thanks to your wonderful lessons on Appalachian language and culture. Thank you! Take care, rest. Sleep. You will need a lot of energy, once you become a Grandma. Blessings and much love ❤️.
We love that pie recipe too!! One thing we do differently is put it in a regular pie crust. Just bake it off, store bought or homemade, and when that cools just fill it and refrigerate. So good! We like pie cold, so that might be why we like it. ❤
Okay, I'll make the cheesecake. It looks both easy and delicious. I already have a crock pot recipe for beef roast. I brown mine first but other than that, it's pretty much the same. Although I didn't realize I was making onion soup mix lol 😂😂😂 I also add red pepper flakes and cayenne but that's for the guys. I have some spicy dudes to feed 😅
It all looks so good! Hinkles are wonderful knives. My brother-in-law is a butcher and he swears by them. You always look so nice but today you look especially pretty. Praying for all of you and Granny.
Everything looked so good!! My ex introduced me to 'no bake cheesecake'! Ironically, I too have a roast cooking in my crock pot! Katie has really been on my mind lately. Praying for a very easy delivery!
👩🏻💻I would use the Lipton Soup but it turned out tasting salty. I am sure the potatoes and butternut absorbs the salt in Granny's recipe. I like the idea of you onion mix because there is no salt, unless I missed hearing you mention it. Sounds delicious.
I love doing roast in a crockpot because it does make supper time easy. I am the same as you, once it gets later in the evening I need to be put to bed as well. As the old timers used to say, go to bed with the chickens and get up with the chickens. 🙂
My mouth is watering. Bless your heart Tipper. You had a busy day and did up all the dishes. After having 50-60 and 70-degree weather, it's been cold this week in Michigan, and tomorrow 2-4 inches of snow, but beautiful blue skies.
Roast in the crockpot with veggies is one of our favorite Sunday lunches. 😋 Mama always got a chuck roast, potatoes, carrots, and onions, and used Beefy Mushroom soup instead of Lipton. Yummy good. Thank you for sharing your recipe with us. Hugs 🤗 and God bless ❤🙏❤️
Tipper, I like to cook a chuck roast in crock pot with Lipton Onion soup, brown gravy and a cut up onion, when it is done falling apart I like to transfer to pot on stove and add white rice and cook until rice is done, YUMMY... It is so good, hope you try it... GOD BLESS you and family🙏🙏🙏... Make sure enough water is in to cook the rice...
I knew something was missing in the pie recipe, but it is not like you haven't been busy Tipper. Thank you, love watching your videos on any subject. I make my cornbread just like you do, but I use Martha white cornmeal which is just like my grandparents did.
Tipper, as always, your meal looks absolutely delicious ❤. I know yall are very excited about your FIRST GRANDSON, BABY COMING. VERY VERY SOON❤❤. That definitely could be your state of forgetfulness and confusion. I’m so excited for Katie and ALL of you. I can hardly wait myself!! Praying for all to go smoothly for Mommy nd baby 💕🙏🙏. Gods Blessings to all of you ❤️
Exactly how my mother would make pot roast. I remember coming home from church and she’d get the roasting pan out of the oven - it would be sooo good! In later years she would make it in the crockpot.
Many days I will put on your old videos also Watch them over and over., its very relaxing & fun.,watching your videos🙏 God bless you all🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 Linda from Ct
Boy what a delicious looking feast Tipper! Gonna try that cheese cake for sure. LOL, I'm not sure I could eat cornbread that wasn't crumbly. I was a White Lily only user for years but decided to try a brand owned by a family in my state and absolutely love it. Prayers that granny continues to be doing well. Love that you didnt edit out the blooper parts
Mm, that beef roast looks delicious and making your own version of Lipton's onion soup is such a good idea! I haven't had a good beef roast in a long time. My crockpot died and I haven't gotten a new one yet or I would try that tomorrow!
Your videos and your daughter's videos get me through some rough times. Ive been sick a long time, and when im having trouble eating, i can put on one of your videos, and it takes my mind away from what I'm having to do. God bless you and your family!🙏❤️😊
@@CelebratingAppalachia Thank you so much for your prayers! You're just a wonderful family! I remember when the world was a kinder place, and your world there still is. 😊❤️

👋💙🙏💙👋Granny’s roast is very similar to one of my recipes. I also slice an onion or two in mine. Turns out so tender and very delicious. Have a great day dear friends. 👍💙🙏💙👋 Jennifer
Your supper looked really good. When I make a roast, I use 1 envelope each of Italian dressing mix, brown gravy, and Ranch mix. Take all 3 and put in a 1 cup measuring cup and add water. Mix it real good and pour over roast. The ranch dressing mix is salty I think, so I sometimes don’t put quite the whole packet in. I can see in Katie’s face that it won’t be much longer for her. I’m praying everything goes well.
How funny, I was going to make this tomorrow. Great minds... we also used either the dry soup mix or Italian dressing. We never measured anything either. Everything was a cup. Not the measurement but a glass. About half of a whiskey glass.🤫
Fixed your tender cube steak from the cookbook. So delicious! Added onions and mushrooms just because we love them. Also love the ham steak. I am so glad you shared with us. Since this is how I cook, down home, I enjoy new ideas or a different way to fix a favorite.
“Better than Bullion”… cooking a pot roast with ‘taters, carrots & onions… fresh rosemary & thyme out of garden. I use granulated bullion mix. I always cook my dinner in the middays. I had to get up between 3 & 4 in the morning for over 30 years for work. Then nuke it when I was ready. Course I was a bachelor that whole time…,just me & my cat (of 24 years) Maxine ❤❤❤
When we lived in Germany as an Army family there was a J.A. Hinkels shop downtown. I have 2 sets of steak knives from there . We bought those in 1983 & they have just been the best & only steak knives we've had since then. My hubby always said the Hinkel knives were very good ones. He was a knife collector. Your supper looks just delicious!!!
I have 3 Griswold skillets. One is a #8--my favorite. My daddy's family was all from Meadville, PA which is just south of Erie where Griswold was made. Love my skillets and large Griswold Dutch oven.
We all have days of mix-ups! Was listening to the news last night and the guy was having a rough time of it, smoothed things out, and then had a couple more. Thanks for the onion soup mix recipe. I'm going to make a batch to have on hand. Great for dip, too!
Oh I use that recipe (close enough) with all fresh, even sliced onions. I especially like using the crock pot in the warm weather because it doesn't heat the kitchen up. Now I'm hungry hahaha!
Looks like a meal my mother and I would serve except we use chuck roast. When the garden stuff comes in, we cut up tomatoes, cukes, add green onions and any other vegs that are growing. Can't beat fresh vegetables. BTW I love my slow cooker for cooking the meat. It makes it so tender and good tasting. The gravy is wonderful that I make from the drippings also.
I always put a roast in the bottom of my crock pot and veggies on top. Maybe I did it wrong. Everything looked so delicious. I make the pie and need to do so soon. Thanks for sharing. ❤ Patti.
I just fixed roast beef in my big black iron pot with fresh carrots 🥕 Sunday. I stuff my roast beef with garlic then brown all sides in olive oil makes a wonderful gravy when you keep it barely coved with water add in chopped onions & parsley. Beef Rump roast is the best with mashed creamed red potatoes and small baby peas. We had Key Lime Pie for dessert. I don’t have a granny to borrow from any more. ❤ Bless your heart! So sweet how your daughter kept saying that. I should have gone to the store and bought some yeast rolls to go with our meal. 🎉
Love that beef recipe. We love hudson cream self rising cornmeal. So good to have garden onions this time of year. The sizzle is the best part. That's a feast. Yum. Yall have a blessed night.
I’ve fixed that pie with cherry, strawberry and blueberry pie fillings but I also like it with chocolate syrup or caramel syrup (or both) drizzled on top.
Thank you for sharing this beef and potatoes recipe. I would always put my beef on the bottom and veggies on top and tons and tons of broth/water on top. Makes a huge difference putting the meat on top. We really enjoyed it. You made me look good. :) Thanks again.
Tipper, my mom always did the Lipton Onion soup pot roast too. She added a can of cream of mushroom soup too and it makes a gravy. Give it a try sometime…..you will love it too!
Tipper, In a pinch wondering if you could give the pie a good head start by chilling in the freezer for about an hr. then putting it in the frig a few more. I love & appreciate ALL your cooking video's. God Bless You & Yours.
Love love love your videos! So comforting in this crazy world! I saw in a previous video you mentioning your “favorite” Appalachian Cookbook. What was it again? I’m pretty sure I have it, but to make sure. My wife and I bought a little house in a holler in Cosby, Tn… not far from you guys! We love the lifestyle and can’t learn enough! Your simple biscuit recipe is already our family favorite. God bless you and your family ❤️
Thank you very much for posting this! Supper looks so good y'all! I will use this recipe it's great to have crock pot recipes for busy days! Makes life easier! Hugs xx
Oh goodness I was laughing! I understand tipper! I have 4 boys and I home cook everything so my brain is like this all the time haha! It happens to all of us 😂❤I can’t imagine having to explain everything step by step so I’d say you’re doin pretty good
I’m glad you remembered that sweetened condensed milk, otherwise that would be a sour pie. You were having a very busy day. I’ve had a couple days like that lately! I say “I’m meeting myself coming and going!” Your meal looks delicious!
My Aunt found that same recipe many years ago and it's been a family favorite ever since. We always had it with the cherries! I keep the ingredients on hand too! 😊
I've gotten green onions from the market and put them in a glass of water in the kitchen. I cut off the green part for cooking whenever I need some, and then it grows more green part. After a while, I think it runs out of nutrients and doesn't do well. So, I think I'm going to plant them in a trough of soil in the kitchen window and see how well it works.
Supper looked great. I could just taste that cornbread in a glass of milk 😮. Not sure if you’ve ever made Mississippi Pot Roast-but it is wonderful….and it’s a crock pot cooking meal. Take a chuck roast-or your preference of cuts, put it in crock pot, take one pack dry ranch dressing mix and one pack au-jus gravy mix-put it on top, then cut up slices of butter and place around on top (1/3 cup) … place 4-5 pepperoncini peppers(whole) on top and slow cook for @8 hours. It falls apart, and the flavor is awesome. I’m sure you could use different peppers and it would be just as good. I typically double the ranch & au-jus, but I love the extra goodness. No liquid, etc. I know you like trying different things, so I thought I would mention it. It won’t be long until you’re going to need quick meals-grand baby and garden will be your life ❤
I live just a few miles from Booneville. I like Martha White buttermilk mix cornmeal. That tip of the hot pan for the batter makes excellent corn bread.

Amazing to me that some people find it strange to see a family sit down for dinner other than special occasions. Because it wasn't their norm. We are fortunate.
We have breakfast in supper as a family my husband is at work for lunch it is so sad a lot of people have lost meals around the the table
Couldn't agree more
It’s a pretty normal thing up here in Canada and I don’t know anyone who doesn’t do family dinner on a regular basis. I always cook my dinner in the middays. I had to get up between 3 & 4 in the morning for over 30 years for work. Then nuke it when I was ready. Course I was a bachelor that whole time…,just me & my cat (of 24 years) Maxine ❤❤❤
Borry! I love it! No bar·rowing here neither!
😊
When we lived in Germany as an Army family there was a J.A. Hinkels shop downtown. I have 2 sets of steak knives from there . We bought those in 1983 & they have just been the best & only steak knives we've had since then. My hubby always said the Hinkel knives were very good ones. He was a knife collector. Your supper looks just delicious!!!
I have 3 Griswold skillets. One is a #8--my favorite. My daddy's family was all from Meadville, PA which is just south of Erie where Griswold was made. Love my skillets and large Griswold Dutch oven.
Another wonderful family dinner! My mom would make a pie like yours and she added crushed pineapple to it - so good!
Sounds great!
What a yummy looking supper!
❤ Patti.
I do it that way sometimes too 😊 it all works!
Always love when you show us your suppers. I'm between houses right now-moving-but would like to try it once I get settled!
So Hungry now for Roast. Just wanted to pass this on. I put some Ranch dressing mix in mine once. Loved it and now do every time . Have a blessed day
Love that beef recipe.
You are so welcome!
Tipper, my mom always did the Lipton Onion soup pot roast too. She added a can of cream of mushroom soup too and it makes a gravy. Give it a try sometime…..you will love it too!
Looks delicious, this is how we have cooked our roasts for as long as I can remember. Like always thanks for sharing.
Beautiful in Georgia today! My hubby and I played golf! So much fun❤. I love watching you prepare a meal ❤
Tipper, In a pinch wondering if you could give the pie a good head start by chilling in the freezer for about an hr. then putting it in the frig a few more. I love & appreciate ALL your cooking video's. God Bless You & Yours.
I think that would work well 😊 Thank you!
What a yummy supper and desert . Tipper you always make such wonderful meals. Still waiting for that baby boy anytime now 😊🙏
Love love love your videos!

The #8 on the cast iron skillet correlates to the size of the eyes on an antique wood stove. Did not know that bit of history! The meal looks awesome!
Thanks for the info!

I’m glad you remembered that sweetened condensed milk, otherwise that would be a sour pie.
You were having a very busy day. I’ve had a couple days like that lately! I say “I’m meeting myself coming and going!”

My Aunt found that same recipe many years ago and it's been a family favorite ever since. We always had it with the cherries! I keep the ingredients on hand too! 😊
Fine look'n supper! I'll say it again.... momma had the same cornbread plate. I use it now.
Granny is life saver we have them days your pie look so super yummy God bless everyone 💓 😋
That supper looks so good. God bless y'all. Love and prayers. 🙏❤🙏❤
Love those Henckels knives- Old time German company- have had a few for 35 yrs- still great!!
It won’t be long until you’re going to need quick meals-grand baby and garden will be your life ❤
That sounds good! Thank you 😊
I live just a few miles from Booneville. I like Martha White buttermilk mix cornmeal. That tip of the hot pan for the batter makes excellent corn bread.
