Great update - I was considering purchasing a used TX-16 first gen and this cleared up the differences. FYI, there are a few 3D printed shoulder switch replacements and folding handles hat you may like. Printables has a few and Thingverse does as well.

Thank you so much for this review. It gave me the confidence I needed to move from my 12 year old DX8 to the Radiomaster. Anxiously sitting by the gate awaiting it's arrival here in South Africa.😳 Been wanting to give up my spektrum due to the 4+Chanel Rx's now costing over a R1000.00(ea.)

Thanks for the real review. Your grades are real. Just like each of us has an impression when using it.
BTW. When I read some of the comments, I am reminded of my first radio that still had mechanical trimmers. And the receiver had to be tuned every few months. that I will not mention the over-meter antenna for 27 MHz and the need to replace the quartz for a specific radio channel ...
Now people can complaining because the LED is blinking 3x and not 4x. Really???
Even the best radio on the world will not make us better pilots. Maybe that's why I'm still pretty mach resistant to all these "important improvements".
"Give me the door with the motor attached, and I'll fly too." This is my motto;)

Great vid bud. Ive got the v1 and will be sticking to it as ELRS doesn't really appeal to me. There are so many protocols out there it's buyers choice, which is nice for a change! Crossfire is my main and probably always will be for some time to come.

    Honest review,
As you mentioned I would like them to make a little more transmitter
Small in size, in my opinion the tx16s is too big and the tx12 is too small something between tx12 and tx16s in size would be nice.

I have both and I love the Flysky for a beginner radio, it's particularly good for small hands (especially kids), and supports all the basics. It's what I buy or recommend for people new to the hobby who aren't made of money. The TX16S is a far more advanced radio though and can do way more things. It leaves the Flysky in the dust in this regard. I do wish it was a bit less bulky though. If Radiomaster would put the full 4-1 capability in the TX12 it would be a real winner, killing the Flysky for all practical purposes.

I'm having a bit of a headache using it with my 800mm fms Corsair. Particularly with the reflex v2 gyro system. I tried connecting it with ppm configuration. All the servo worked except for the throttle. In the end I just used pwm the issue is now I can't turn off the gyro. I'm stuck playing between optimal mode and stabilized mode. It's still fun tho

Wow, I have two, ordered the second when charger problems occurred. I like the complexity ...keeps the brain cells alive. Something to do during covid ... I dont think I'll upgrade, these should last me a lifetime, given my age . A shout out to Radiomaster, they sent me the parts to fix the first one . Easy repair except that little 4 wire ribbon cable , hard on old fingers and eyes. I tried edge ts, but the relearning was .. well the replacement board came with open TX and that was it . Thanks for the review, seems there are many new options being offered by American vendors , all based I guess on model 1, moving that old stock out? Take care.

I've been eyeing this radio since v1, particularly the red and black max edition with the cnc gimbals. Currently am flying with a qx7-s without no real problems except for when I do firmware upgrades.
How do the stock batteries compare vs the 5000mah option to the one on the qx7?

Great review, as always! There is one item in which I do not quite agree with you: size. I bought myself a TX12 believing I would enjoy the smaller dimensions. Made a relatively long one-hour flight with my slope soarer, and felt uncomfortable because I had to angle my hands more than with the wider TX16S. Perhaps it is just me...

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Radios are a very personal thing. There is no 'one size fits all'. It is the same with goggles and lots of things in the hobby. We already have a huge radio in the TX16s and a game style in the Zorro so there is a gap in the line-up that many pilots are looking for. See the other comments for other pilots who want a more compact version. No wrong answer on this one but more choice is a good thing..

I am trying to bind to Frsky RX8R pro.I set internal module, Frsky D16 protocol, press bind, hold down button on rx and connect battery. The red led comes on so does the green and the chirping stops on the tx. Restart both and the rx led is slowly flashing red meaning signal lost. You mentioned the jurisdictional nature of the RF certification, and that got me to thinking... Did anything change for you with Brexit with either flying regulations or radio systems? I'm in the US but I'm always curious about the direction that UAS regulation is going in the future here and worldwide.

They still fall under LBT and 868mhz like the rest of Europe. Although half the ppl here fly with FCC though it is pretty necessary to fly 868mhz because of the cell signals. Not legally allowed to turn 868mhz up over 10mw but... yeah...

Hello there Lee, good video above.
William down in South Africa here.
Looking for some help if possible.
My TX16s Version 1 has suddenly started putting in some positive and negative elevator input when the throttle stick is used (Mode 2, so separate sticks).
It is right across all models, and even does it in the calibration exercise.
Any thoughts or experience on what to do?
    Cheers,
    William

Thanks Lee. Great video as always.
Quick questions. If I was to purchase the standard MK2 version:
    (1) Can you swap the GNC Gimbals from V1 one and place the ones from the MK2 into V1?
    (2) Can I simply install the same version of EdgeTX from my V1 to MK2, copy the entire contents of my V1 Card over to the MK2 (or swap the SD card) so that the MK1 will have all my models and exact settings (include global functions, etc) as the V1?
    Thanks,

      1) The gimbal attachment is the same, thus you can install AG01 or FlySky digital gimbals also into TX16S mark II.
      2) EdgeTX firmware is the same for the first generation TX16S and mark II. You only need to re-run the calibration.
