I thank the Holy Spirit often for a teacher as awesome as Sam... I listen to "Catholic Culture" to get the over arching teaching of the Church fathers. And then follow up with Sam for the mathematical proofs using the scripture to back up those teachings. Sam is like a PhD in math but in Bible. By writing it as και θεος ην ο λογος, John does two critical and deliberate things. First, he leaves the article off of θεος, thus indicating that Word is NOT the same individual as the father. Second, he places θεος to the front of the clause which places extra emphasis on the Word. By doing that, John makes it clear by the increase in emphasis, that the absence of the article does NOT mean "lesser." Since the absence of the article does not mean "a lesser god," it leaves us with only one choice as to what is meant: The Word is not exactly the same individual as the "τον θεον" of the second clause, but every bit as much GOD as the "τον θεον" of the second clause. Thus, the absence of the article tells us that the θεος of the third clause is NOT the same individual as the τον θεον of the second clause. The position tells us that the absence of the article does NOT mean "lesser." By placing θεος in a position of emphasis, John is doing the equivalent of bolding it, underlining it, and adding an exclamation point: "The Word was God!" Now we see why John included the article in the prepositional phrase "προς τον θεον." He was being very specific. The Word is WITH a SPECIFIC being called "The God" (τον θεον). In the next clause, John then lets us know that the Word was completely EQUAL with "The God" in divinity, but through the careful use of the articles John has clued us in that the Word is not the same individual as The God of the previous clause. One of the objections raised to the divinity of Jesus is that λογος means “the mind, wisdom, intelligence, or plan of God” and nothing more. It is argued that λογος is not an individual but simply a way of describing the “mind” or “wisdom” of God (this was a common philosophy of the Gnostics). Thus, the λογος was not an individual, but simply the wisdom of God, not a “God” made flesh, but the wisdom of God or the mind of God made flesh. That means He did not exist prior to His birth (as God). Prior to his physical birth, this theory suggests that he was merely an idea, or a plan in the MIND of God and that IDEA became a man. John's construction of this verse is so carefully crafted that it is often called the most concise theological statement ever made. In this one short verse, the Holy Spirit wrote through John a sentence that took me all of this time and space to explain. The Holy Spirit's deliberate use of grammar leaves us only ONE possible conclusion: Jesus is completely and totally God in every way that the Father is God, but Jesus is NOT the same individual as the Father
Doesn't sound convincing. Sorry! "I was with my mother when she went to to supermarket and I was my mother." If I make such a statement, people will think I'm looney. The fact that John uses TWO SEPARATE GREEK forms for god, was to show his readers that he was referring to two separate gods. Because further on he testifies: (John 1:34) And I have seen it, and I have given witness that this one IS THE SON OF GOD.” Note the IS (always present tense) above as compared to the WAS (past tense) in verse 1. 'and the Word was a god' is what John made clear. Jesus who was the beginning of God's creation was himself a mighty being. A god. Logically, a firstborn would be WITH his life giver before the others came along. John 1:1.
Another aspect that I never see in the comments is why John chose to call Jesus "the Word". It was "the Word" who visited prophets in the Old Testament. For example, Jeremiah received the visit of "the Word of God". What is interesting (apart that Yahweh visited him) is that the Word of God, who Jeremiah identifies as "the Lord" (v.6 and 7), reached him and touched his mouth with his hand (v.9). Am I saying that Yahweh touched Jeremiah's lips? Yes. How is it possible if Yahweh is spirit? Well, here you have a Yahweh with a body (no one can have a hand and touch someone unless he has a body). It happened many times in the past (like when Yahweh fought with Jacob, or when Yahweh ate with Abraham). The Trinity is the only explanation. Our God is totally different to any other man-made god. Thus, "The Word of God is a title of Yahweh, and John is identifying Jesus with Yahweh.

@@jimjuri6490 we are not talking about opinions, but about the text. The text says explicitly that the Word of God came to Jeremiah. To come is a verb that requieres motion. Someone came to Jeremiah. He is identified as the Word of God. And how do you know that it is a physical entity? Because it touched Jeremiah's mouth with his hands. A spirit cannot touch someone. And Jeremiah recognizes this entity as Yahweh. That is why he calls him "Lord". That is what the text explicitly says. Then, we have a John saying that the Word refers to a person. He is making an explicit connection between the Word and Jesus, because we all agree that John 1 speaks about Jesus. It says, "in the beginning was the Word. And the Word was with God and the Word was God." It cannot be clearer than that. And then you tell me that the text says something but it means something else? That is a weird exegetical exercise.

He inspires his prophets to speak his words. 2 Peter 1:21 For prophecy was at no time brought by man’s will, but MEN SPOKE FROM GOD as they were moved by holy spirit. God's holy spirit is a power from God that inspires people to carry out his will. And speak his thoughts. This could be helpful. (Hebrews 1:1, 2) Long ago God SPOKE to our forefathers BY MEANS OF the prophets on many occasions and in many ways. 2 Now at the end of these days he has SPOKEN TO US BY MEANS OF A SON, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the systems of things. Jesus being called the Word and God speaking to humans USING Jesus are separate things.

A very good verse helped me back than pretty much to avoid all of this new age stuff and messages was ,, And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh, is not of God; and such is the spirit of Antichrist, ''. I struggled a lot with romans 9 and other passages, but I can't deny that without God I was going to remain in the new age and having 0 information what is even going on.

Compared with the light she is found to be more radiant, for it is succeeded by the night, but against wisdom evil does not prevail."
Be careful here. While I too believe the Holy Spirit is female, and Jesus' true mother, you must stick with the bible not heretical extra biblical sources. Wisdom glorifies the Holy Spirit, whereas the Holy Spirit rejects such glorification and directs it all to Jesus

It was in all Christian Bibles until a few hundred years ago, when Luther decided he didn't want it in there because the Jews didn't have it in their Bible. Jesus himself allude to the Wisdom of Solomon (chapter 1) in Matthew 12, and Paul in Romans 1 to Wisdom 13. Not gonna write out something long, because it is likely this will be censored by TH-cam anyway.

John 1:1-3 is referencing both Genesis 1 and Proverbs 8. Proverbs 8:22 - "The Lord created me at the beginning of his work, the first of his acts of long ago."
Many see in the beginning of John's Account of the Gospel, a hymn. Thus the line "the SAME was in the beginning with GOD" is not repetitive, but speaking of JESUS being with the HOLY SPIRIT, so that we see the FATHER called GOD, then the WORD called GOD, then the HOLY SPIRIT called GOD, like the structure LORD have mercy, CHRIST have mercy, LORD have mercy. This also mirrors "the FATHER, the WORD and the SPIRIT" of 1 John 5:7, which one has good reaon to think is original but an early copyist accidentally omitted due to accudentally skipping from one instance of "three that bear witness" to the next instance of it.

Fuel for thought, words are expressions of thoughts so replace the word, word with thought for extra perspective. Essence thought comes from consciousness replace that word with consciousness. 3 days ago I had a bible study with a Jehovah witness elder. In their new kingdom Greek interlinear translation of the Bible. On their website. He had his own book so in the book version you see the new world translation to the right and the Greek translation on the left so out of his Greek translation Bible I asked him to read from verse 16-20. He kept reading from the right side there are new world translation I said no no no no over here on this side read this again he read the Jehovah witness Bible side. So I said let me see I literally had to read it he would not read the Greek version. Then I asked him if God created everything the heavens and the Earth as a says in Genesis and then Luke he created all the establishments in the court systems and governments just exactly what are the other things please just named one. He had no answer. I pleated. He then try to divert me to the King James version Bible and tried to point out that there's a capital L here. I've heard a lot of diversions but this one really took the cake how pathetic and intellectually dishonest he was. Some strange attempt to use the King James version to prove that his version. I moved on and I said let's go to the book of John he assumed I was going to John 1:1 when I didn't take him to John 1:11 he ended the Bible study. And start heading for the door let me tell you I never saw Jehovah witness move that fast. I kept repeating just just name one thing just wanted just name one thing. I should have asked him if he had any miracle wheat I really need some false hope. He said I thought you brought me here under the premise that you wanted a Bible. I said no the Bible study was for you not me. I am not gentle on elders at all the gloves come off when I talk to an elder. I cut to the chase no nonsense. @@kerimruzam76 I have a copy of the New Kingdom interlinear Greek translation. You can find this on the JW library website. I asked him three times to read the Greek Colossians 1: 15-20 he basically refused to read it and kept reading the New world Translation holy scriptures version. I was pointing out "all other things" In the NWT does not coincide with the Greek which says "all things" I pleaded with him what are these other things? Several times he had no answer. Then as a diversion he pulled out the King James version Bible and point out to a capital letter L somewhere in some scripture. I told him I don't use the King James version Bible and it's not irrelevant to what we're talking about. I asked him again what are all these other things that were created. He was intellectually dishonest refuse to read the scripture from the Greek interlinear Translation Bible. He pulled the pioneer plow so fast it was so fast he had to get out of there. As he was rushing away I said God created everything so what are all these other things that Jesus created? It was a pretty pathetic encounter.
I’m not doing this to attack you but I want to share the truth in love because I love you. Contradictions in JW doctrine and NWT • JESUS is not a creature or created being, yet according to JW doctrine they teach that he is. In Hebrews 1:1-3 we have a dilemma in the JW Bible (NWT). It says that JESUS is the exact representation of JEHOVAH (GOD) being, and it is not making a small claim like he is simply the representation of JEHOVAH’s character or anything minor but that JESUS is the exact representation of JEHOVAH’s being, that means that He has to possess all the qualities JEHOVAH possess like eternal existence, omnipotence, omniscience, omnipresence etc. (We see that JESUS possess omniscience in the Gospels when He discerns or knows what people are thinking and also when Peter acknowledges that JESUS knows all thing (John 21:17) and we learn that He is omnipresent when He says He would be with the disciples until the end of the age, despite Him not physically being present with them through it (Matthew 28:20)) So already it is impossible for JESUS to be lesser than JEHOVAH or be a created being if He is eternal, omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent. Now go over to Psalm 86:8-10 in the NWT. In Psalm 86:8-10 it says no other gods can do what JEHOVAH can (according to JW doctrine the gods being referred to here are angels (sons of GOD) which are created beings. To build up on that, Psalm 89 verses 5-8 in NWT says that none of the sons of GOD or gods (heavenly creatures (angels)) are like JEHOVAH, resemble JEHOVAH or do what JEHOVAH can but Hebrews 1:1-3 in the NWT contradicts that if JESUS is indeed an angel (a created being). So how can the JW doctrine be correct about JESUS being lesser than JEHOVAH in essence and JESUS being a created being. Another clear example or teaching that JESUS can do what JEHOVAH can is found in Hebrews 1:8-12 in the NWT, JESUS is being praised by JEHOVAH here and is described as being able to do that which only JEHOVAH can which is what we are taught in Psalm 102:25-27. But yet Psalm 86:8-10 and Psalm 89:5-8 say that none of the gods are like JEHOVAH or can do what HE can. So how could it possibly be that JESUS is not GOD??? Because it says nobody is like JEHOVAH nor can any one do what HE can and yet we very clearly see that JESUS can and it’s not like the text makes room for any exceptions like it saying “none of the gods/angels except JESUS” who they claim is Michael the Archangel, instead it says none, not one of the angels. Yet the teach that JESUS created the Earth but we clearly see from Psalm 102 that only JEHOVAH can do that and from Psalm 86 and 89 we learn that none are like GOD and none can do what He can. So, if they claim that nobody except JEHOVAH can do the works JEHOVAH does, then if JESUS were not GOD then how can JESUS do the things GOD can do as Hebrews 1:1-3 suggests because JESUS cannot be the exact representation of JEHOVAH if He is not like JEHOVAH or can’t do the things JEHOVAH can? How was JESUS able to do things like raise people from the dead which only God can do if He was lesser than JEHOVAH or not GOD. Rebuttal 2 - JESUS is not a created being (an angel) as the JW teach. • We now move onto the book of Revelation chapter 5. In Revelation 5:1-13 we learn that JESUS is not a created being. You can even ask them to check this in their own translation (NWT). Revelation 5:1-13 describes a scene in the throne room of Go were no created thing is worth to open or even glance at the contents of the scroll except for GOD the Father and the Lamb (God the Son). In addition to this all created beings (creatures) in Heaven, Earth and below all worshipped GOD the Father and the Son in the same way. So if Jesus were a create being He should have been worshipping the Father along with the all of creation and if He was lesser than GOD the Father, He shouldn’t have received the same worship because that would be blasphemy and He shouldn’t have been able to open the scroll and look at the contents because only GOD is worthy. • Another thing is if you open Revelation chapter 1 JESUS clearly claims to be GOD and Eternal as He ascribes the title “Alpha & Omega” (Beginning and end) to Himself which is only JEHOVAH’s. Their argument is that the Word was God's first creation made to be the agency of creation, and they emphasize that the passage says the universe was created through him and not by him. Of course, this is a reintroduction of the ancient pagan idea of the demiurge. But my question to you is how to answer their argument that they throw out all the time to defend their ' "a god" pseudo-translation, when they quote the passage in Matthew where the Pharisees accuse him of blasphemy for making himself equal to God and Jesus responds by quoting the Old Testament passage and says, "Isn't it written, 'I said, you are gods'? If He called them 'gods' to whom the word of God came, why do you say that I blaspheme for saying I am the Son of God." Contradictions in the NWT: • JESUS is not a creature or created being, yet according to JW doctrine they teach that he is. In Hebrews 1:1-3 we have a dilemma in the JW Bible (NWT). It says that JESUS is the exact representation of JEHOVAH (GOD) being, and it is not making a small claim like he is simply the representation of JEHOVAH’s character or anything minor but that JESUS is the exact representation of JEHOVAH’s being, that means that He has to possess all the qualities JEHOVAH possess like eternal existence, omnipotence, omniscience, omnipresence etc. (We see that JESUS possess omniscience in the Gospels when He discerns or knows what people are thinking and also when Peter acknowledges that JESUS knows all thing (John 21:17) and we learn that He is omnipresent when He says He would be with the disciples until the end of the age, despite Him not physically being present with them through it (Matthew 28:20)) So already it is impossible for JESUS to be lesser than JEHOVAH or be a created being if He is eternal, omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent. Now go over to Psalm 86:8-10 in the NWT. In Psalm 86:8-10 it says no other gods can do what JEHOVAH can (according to JW doctrine the gods being referred to here are angels (sons of GOD) which are created beings. To build up on that, Psalm 89 verses 5-8 in NWT says that none of the sons of GOD or gods (heavenly creatures (angels)) are like JEHOVAH, resemble JEHOVAH or do what JEHOVAH can but Hebrews 1:1-3 in the NWT contradicts that if JESUS is indeed an angel (a created being). So how can the JW doctrine be correct about JESUS being lesser than JEHOVAH in essence and JESUS being a created being. Another clear example or teaching that JESUS can do what JEHOVAH can is found in Hebrews 1:8-12 in the NWT, JESUS is being praised by JEHOVAH here and is described as being able to do that which only JEHOVAH can which is what we are taught in Psalm 102:25-27. You can also go to John 1:3. If you pay attention it says nothing was made without Him. Literally everything, so nothing could have been created without Him and if Jesus was a created being then that includes Him but you see Jesus is not a created being and if it was John would probably say something like everything except Jesus.

The problem im having with the trinity is our one God according to the church revealed himself in 3 ways as the father son and holy ghost so you count 3, but the truth is he revealed himself in more ways then just that! You are confusing the meaning and definition of the word divine. Divine simply means from heaven. God is from heaven, The Word of God who became Jesus is from heaven. And angels are from heaven! The one God does not exist is more than one person. You could accurately say that Jesus/The Word, and the angels are all the same kind of Being, which is spirit, but they're not the same person or individual. Neither are they co-equal in any way at any time! The Father is always superior! Jesus explained at John 4:24 that his Father is an invisible spirit. Hebrews 1:7 says that angels are spirits. And John 1:1 explains that The Word of God was a spirit, in the same form as God, who became flesh, a man according to Philippians 2:5-11. That is why Philippians 2:5-11 says that The Word of God humbled himself and became a servant, a slave. If God really was a coequal Trinity, then when The Word of God became a man, a slave, there was no longer a co-equal Trinity. One member of the Trinity had been reduced to a slave! This is why Jesus explains to us at John 17: 1-3 that his Father is the only true God! And Jesus explains at John 14:28 that he is not equal to his Father! And, this is why God himself explains to us at first Corinthians 15 23 through 28 that, even though he places all authority under the subjection of his son Jesus, God the Father is the exception to that! The whole point of all of this that has happened in human history is to return God the Father to his rightful position of authority and supremacy over all creation! By writing it as και θεος ην ο λογος, John does two critical and deliberate things. First, he leaves the article off of θεος, thus indicating that Word is NOT the same individual as the father. Second, he places θεος to the front of the clause which places extra emphasis on the Word. By doing that, John makes it clear by the increase in emphasis, that the absence of the article does NOT mean "lesser." Since the absence of the article does not mean "a lesser god," it leaves us with only one choice as to what is meant: The Word is not exactly the same individual as the "τον θεον" of the second clause, but every bit as much GOD as the "τον θεον" of the second clause. Thus, the absence of the article tells us that the θεος of the third clause is NOT the same individual as the τον θεον of the second clause. The position tells us that the absence of the article does NOT mean "lesser." By placing θεος in a position of emphasis, John is doing the equivalent of bolding it, underlining it, and adding an exclamation point: "The Word was God!"
Now we see why John included the article in the prepositional phrase "προς τον θεον." He was being very specific. The Word is WITH a SPECIFIC being called "The God" (τον θεον). In the next clause, John then lets us know that the Word was completely EQUAL with "The God" in divinity, but through the careful use of the articles John has clued us in that the Word is not the same individual as The God of the previous clause.
One of the objections raised to the divinity of Jesus is that λογος means “the mind, wisdom, intelligence, or plan of God” and nothing more. It is argued that λογος is not an individual but simply a way of describing the “mind” or “wisdom” of God (this was a common philosophy of the Gnostics). Thus, the λογος was not an individual, but simply the wisdom of God, not a “God” made flesh, but the wisdom of God or the mind of God made flesh. That means He did not exist prior to His birth (as God). Prior to his physical birth, this theory suggests that he was merely an idea, or a plan in the MIND of God and that IDEA became a man.
John's construction of this verse is so carefully crafted that it is often called the most concise theological statement ever made. In this one short verse, the Holy Spirit wrote through John a sentence that took me all of this time and space to explain. The Holy Spirit's deliberate use of grammar leaves us only ONE possible conclusion: Jesus is completely and totally God in every way that the Father is God, but Jesus is NOT the same individual as the Father

The fact that John uses TWO SEPARATE GREEK forms for god, was to show his readers that he was referring to two separate gods. Because further on he testifies:
(John 1:34) And I have seen it, and I have given witness that this one IS THE SON OF GOD.”
Note the IS (always present tense) above as compared to the WAS (past tense) in verse 1.
'and the Word was a god' is what John made clear. Jesus who was the beginning of God's creation was himself a mighty being. A god. Logically, a firstborn would be WITH his life giver before the others came along. John 1:1.
Another aspect that I never see in the comments is why John chose to call Jesus "the Word". It was "the Word" who visited prophets in the Old Testament. For example, Jeremiah received the visit of "the Word of God". What is interesting (apart that Yahweh visited him) is that the Word of God, who Jeremiah identifies as "the Lord" (v.6 and 7), reached him and touched his mouth with his hand (v.9).
Am I saying that Yahweh touched Jeremiah's lips? Yes. How is it possible if Yahweh is spirit? Well, here you have a Yahweh with a body (no one can have a hand and touch someone unless he has a body). It happened many times in the past (like when Yahweh fought with Jacob, or when Yahweh ate with Abraham).
The Trinity is the only explanation. Our God is totally different to any other man-made god.
Thus, "The Word of God is a title of Yahweh, and John is identifying Jesus with Yahweh.

He is identified as the Word of God. And how do you know that it is a physical entity? Because it touched Jeremiah's mouth with his hands. A spirit cannot touch someone. And Jeremiah recognizes this entity as Yahweh. That is why he calls him "Lord". That is what the text explicitly says. Then, we have a John saying that the Word refers to a person. He is making an explicit connection between the Word and Jesus, because we all agree that John 1 speaks about Jesus. It says, "in the beginning was the Word. And the Word was with God and the Word was God." It cannot be clearer than that. And then you tell me that the text says something but it means something else?
That is a weird exegetical exercise.

Be careful here. While I too believe the Holy Spirit is female, and Jesus' true mother, you must stick with the bible not heretical extra biblical sources. Wisdom glorifies the Holy Spirit, whereas the Holy Spirit rejects such glorification and directs it all to Jesus

It was in all Christian Bibles until a few hundred years ago, when Luther decided he didn't want it in there because the Jews didn't have it in their Bible. Jesus himself allude to the Wisdom of Solomon (chapter 1) in Matthew 12, and Paul in Romans 1 to Wisdom 13. Not gonna write out something long, because it is likely this will be censored by TH-cam anyway.

Thus the line "the SAME was in the beginning with GOD" is not repetitive, but speaking of JESUS being with the HOLY SPIRIT, so that we see the FATHER called GOD, then the WORD called GOD, then the HOLY SPIRIT called GOD, like the structure LORD have mercy, CHRIST have mercy, LORD have mercy. This also mirrors "the FATHER, the WORD and the SPIRIT" of 1 John 5:7, which one has good reaon to think is original but an early copyist accidentally omitted due to accudentally skipping from one instance of "three that bear witness" to the next instance of it.

3 days ago I had a bible study with a Jehovah witness elder.
In their new kingdom Greek interlinear translation of the Bible. On their website.
He had his own book so in the book version you see the new world translation to the right and the Greek translation on the left so out of his Greek translation Bible I asked him to read from verse 16-20.
He kept reading from the right side there are new world translation I said no no no no over here on this side read this again he read the Jehovah witness Bible side. So I said let me see I literally had to read it he would not read the Greek version.
Then I asked him if God created everything the heavens and the Earth as a says in Genesis and then Luke he created all the establishments in the court systems and governments just exactly what are the other things please just named one.
He had no answer. I pleated.
He then try to divert me to the King James version Bible and tried to point out that there's a capital L here.
I've heard a lot of diversions but this one really took the cake how pathetic and intellectually dishonest he was.
Some strange attempt to use the King James version to prove that his version.
I moved on and I said let's go to the book of John he assumed I was going to John 1:1 when I didn't take him to John 1:11 he ended the Bible study. And start heading for the door let me tell you I never saw Jehovah witness move that fast. I kept repeating just just name one thing just wanted just name one thing.

@@kerimruzam76 I have a copy of the New Kingdom interlinear Greek translation. You can find this on the JW library website. I asked him three times to read the Greek Colossians 1: 15-20 he basically refused to read it and kept reading the New world Translation holy scriptures version.
I was pointing out "all other things"

I pleaded with him what are these other things? Several times he had no answer. Then as a diversion he pulled out the King James version Bible and point out to a capital letter L somewhere in some scripture.

• JESUS is not a creature or created being, yet according to JW doctrine they teach that he is.

Now go over to Psalm 86:8-10 in the NWT. You can also go to John 1:3. If you pay attention it says nothing was made without Him. Literally everything, so nothing could have been created without Him and if Jesus was a created being then that includes Him but you see Jesus is not a created being and if it was John would probably say something like everything except Jesus.

The problem im having with the trinity is our one God according to the church revealed himself in 3 ways as the father son and holy ghost so you count 3, but the truth is he revealed himself in more ways then just that! You are confusing the meaning and definition of the word divine.
Divine simply means from heaven. God is from heaven, The Word of God who became Jesus is from heaven. And angels are from heaven!
The one God does not exist is more than one person. You could accurately say that Jesus/The Word, and the angels are all the same kind of Being, which is spirit, but they're not the same person or individual. Neither are they co-equal in any way at any time! The Father is always superior!
Jesus explained at John 4:24 that his Father is an invisible spirit. Hebrews 1:7 says that angels are spirits. And John 1:1 explains that The Word of God was a spirit, in the same form as God, who became flesh, a man according to Philippians 2:5-11.

If Jesus was the God, the God would not have left Jesus body. Jesus would have continued to be co-equal with God the Father, but he wasn't! He was dead!
