  • Originally developed for a client as supplementary material to a workshop, in this tutorial we go through the basics of the different types of modelling available within 3ds Max, highlighting the fundamental do's and don'ts when working with quads, tri's and Surface Tools (Spline Modelling).
    Totally unscripted and never intended for public release, so expect a lot of "um's and err's" and the occasional involuntary swearing along with a bit of impersonal banter...

    Is there any way to press faces in max similar to cad and Sketch up?
    Whenever I extrude a face inwards, it leaves a plane by its edges.

    Patch modelling is similar to using surface tools - the surface tools modifier actually uses patches "behind the scenes" to create the surface. Nurbs though are evil. Evil, evil, evil. Evil I tells ye...
