I didn't think Gavin Rossdale was such an obscure dated 90s reference. I thought he was pretty mainstream. My poor deluded alternative rock self. Giles' dark past is fun to visit. And I like Ethan. Willow's demanding speech in the library again, love it.
The library cage had a slot for returning books. The idea was to keep them separate until they can be logged back in. The other books in there would be ones that students weren't allowed to check out and would have to ask to get access so they could keep track of them. And Angel's intake? He had bags of donor blood in season one when Darla looked in his fridge. They can also drink animal blood. Human blood is more triggering to a vampire. I had to assume he was going to grab some of that donor blood for himself. But he also knew it was a good place to find vampires if he goes out hunting for them.
They way my Gen-X self sucked air when I heard Jer refer to THE Gavin Rossdale as a character we haven’t met yet. Jesus I am old. 👵🏻The realization that Gavin is no longer in the collective consciousness. 🤦🏻♀️
I love that line from Buffy towards the end. Sometimes it's so easy to get wrapped up in who we expect or want people to be that it's easy to forget they are their own, whole person outside of those expectations. Another great reaction. Gavin Rossdale is a British musician /actor and Amy Yip is an actress more or less standard in Hong Kong martial arts movies. The one quote that grates in all of the 145 episodes is Giles comparing The Bay City Rollers to music especially when we find out in later episodes that he liked groups like Cream, Pink Floyd, The Who and Lynyrd Skynyrd.
I love that you seem to be enjoying this show. I was in my late teens when it premired and I connected with it unlike anything before. Although i have loved many many shows over my life so far Supernatural and Firefly have been the only shows on the same level of obsession as this for me. At the time, there really hadn't been anything like it on tv (especially aimed at the young demographic) and then add in the books and watchers guides and all the extra stuff that came out it was a unique experience back then. There were certain episodes you could buy on VHS that came with introductions from joss whedon himself and yes I had them and the watchers guides and yearbook etc) which was unheard of back then. And it was just done so well that except for a little cringe here and there it holds up really well.
So, that's the return cage. Usually there's a cart to catch books and check them in before they get reshelved. You might also keep "Special Collections" back there or items that need repair or airing out. As a 43yo woman, I am constantly taking care of my 50yo sister. She's exhausting. And ffs, she isn't the one who was in a coma in February and is dealing with new "mental deficits" since... but I seem to have to explain to her more about how to maneuver in the world. She acts like the world should bend to meet her needs. Ma'am, that's not how the rest of society works.
If you want a way different take on the man that plays Giles, watch Repo The Genetic Opera. I as a 50 year old with her life not together I at least knew who Gavin Rossdale is. 😂
I think this was a pretty decent episode of S2, but it is interesting that we gradually getting to see that Giles is much more than he seems. Jenny of course is gradually being brought in more in S2 to enhance the storylines. The Xander/Cordelia constant bickering at this point is driving Willow mad, and she unloads in the library. We have the interminable Ethan Rayne back again, one of the nastiest characters in the show, a thorn in The Scoobies side again. Funny scene when Xander is asked 'did you find anything' and he produces a pic from the 70s of Giles playing bass in a rock band. We can see how much you are really enjoying the show now, it just engrosses all that come across it, mainly due to such brilliant characters everyone can empathise with.
all three of them named celebrities not classmates. google tells me that amy yip is an acrtess/model from hong kong. unless there's another one google isn't telling me about.

Love the fast pace you're going through the episodes. So many great episodes to come in Season 2, and then the fantastic Seasons 3 and 5.
I love that they didn't hold off too long on this after the sprinkling of ideas in _Halloween._
