Britain has pretty much metricated, except (for some odd reason) road distances and speeds are still in miles. But petrol is sold by the litre so that must make calculating your fuel economy a "bit of a nuisance".
@@christopherbedford9897Not in the slightest; we use miles per gallon so we know how far we go on a gallon, rather than the continental system of how much fuel you use for 100km which is utterly bizarre :D
@@sl077766 Umm well (a) to use MPG you have to convert litres to gallons so yeah, bit of a nuisance and (b) it's only "utterly bizarre" because you're not used to it. My father called it something similar when we metricated in South Africa in the 70s (in the 70s! How far behind you are!!!) and he never converted - but then, he refused to use a calculator either, and insisted on doing all the calculations by long division. Yes, he was that reactionary. I've been using l/100km since my first car in 1981 and when everyone uses the same measurement it makes perfect sense - after all, it's not the numbers that matter, it's how they compare to similar vehicles and to what your vehicle has been doing for the last "x" months or years.
@@sl077766 L/100km seems bizarre (ok. IS bizarre) but it's great for marketing. Better economy gives a smaller number at the front. We use it in Aus and I grew up with it, but it is really meaningless compared to km per litre.

Will this cut in to your semi-biannual yearly Project Binky episodes? That's how I keep track of leap years.......
High performance Mini, converted buss to transport it in, Thinking of a trip to Italy?
that'll blow the bloody doors off!
not with your roads lol
hang on lads, I've got a great idea...
♫♪♫♪ This is a self preservation, Society! ♪♫♪♫
They're still two Minis short for that I guess...
"Toss Pot". Haven't heard that one before. Gonna have to work that one into my own everyday speech.
Cheers for that.
That satisfiying whiiiirrrr when the impact wrench finally get's it spinning.
Making Project Binky a House, Episode 1 😁
What, What !?!, a BOM upload without a bracket, getting the funky out or even a solitary cup of tea?
I saw cups, so they're holding out on us.
And nary a “make the noise.”
Don't worry, it's about to get complicated, they said so themselves.
Patience my friend.. first tear down, thén bracket up!
Ready? yarp
Simon Pegg would be proud
Great way to start the weekend. Definitely one of my favorite channels.
I love the door on the side that was used for the library part of the van.
Hi boys yet another fantastic video on a great conversation 😄 I drove a ford cargo for 10 years from 1989 all over the uk and Europe without a bit of trouble 👍🏻 This is going to be a really good job and can’t wait for episode 2 😀 I sit in my DAF XF 105 all day waiting for something fantastic to watch and you two always oblige as it’s better that day time TV 🙈 Well and thanks for your entertainment Stevie
Yet more top quality, original, and entertaining material to distract me from life! Love this project guys! Spot on!
Hi from australia
Keep up the good work look forward to every video
Cheers chris
From reading the title I was really hoping this would be a Nissan S-Cargo with a fold-out tent and a diesel swap so it'd have enough torque to pull a trailer with Binky in it.
Please make more lightly edited 'deconstruction montage with banter' type videos in future, I really enjoyed this. You lads are brilliant.
Phew! I was worried I'd have nothing to watch after Binky was finished, but now I'm sorted for another 5 years. Thanks guys :-)
as someone that converted a 26' (that's a black and white measurement) uhaul into an RV/toterhome, I fully dig this project.
a distinct lack of funk on this episode I notice....still bang on though i must say
I like the music, it's different from Binky. This Box Van is more rock. I don't know if the boys meant to do it but I like the idea of different Types of music for different projects
Michael Morgan I really liked the guitar playing in this episode.
But yes. Go the funk.
Trucks are heavy metal...
Funk is for fabrication
“Sounds like the hinge on your wallet”...
I died.
Likewise :D
I snorked very loudly XD
What do ya'll think of the hoonigans modifying another Cosworth escort after destroying the last one?
Cracking line
pinfarmer good news if you already own one...
Great.... you dismantle a bookmobile and I'm already hooked.
I love some serious heat for these rusty jobs. The torch is my best friend.
Things you'll be reinstalling because you need them;
Rear bumper
Spare tire carrier
Heater
Cabinets
Leveling jacks
CARBON FIBER EVERYTHING
Rear door. Side door.
Nah...Just gotta get Binkie on a horse size diet.
Lol
All things that can be replaced with items much lighter than the 30 year old items tossed into the bonfire 🔥 or rubbish skip.
Is the unladen weight African or European camper van?
European I guess; the african vans are bigger and can hold coconuts, but they aren't a migratory type of van.
Aha, i see you what did there!
Almost wet myself...oh nevermind...
Quite happy to watch other people wrestling rusting nuts...oh...that sounds totally inappropriate
haha, comment of the day. BTW where did you find the coconuts
So good to see a British channel using metric system.
@@sl077766
L/100km seems bizarre (ok. IS bizarre) but it's great for marketing. Better economy gives a smaller number at the front. We use it in Aus and I grew up with it, but it is really meaningless compared to km per litre.
@@mattjohns3394I've no prob using km/litres but at least do it the right way around ie how many km on a litre, l/100km is plain stupid (imho of course :D ) and sod the marketing!
As always, positively delightful.
I'm pretty sure I would watch you guys no matter what you do. It can be Binky, Escargo, budjet race car, outhouse, barn or just sit and talk.
...another overcomplicated project, showing your modestly persevering audience waaay too much detail of your strangely satisfying craftsmanship?
*I hate to love it!*
Having a project car of my own, there really is value in working on something else for a while.
you get really tired of one thing. working on something else gets you excited about the original project again :)
Enjoying this video a lot :)
Not a mini in fact just the opposite but still pretty good watch.
Nice one guys I kinda want an old library van now 😂
Good to see an old Essex mobile library again. I used to drive one of these back in 1989/90. If I remember correctly these were downgraded to 7.5 tonners by using different wheels and tyres.
What a mission, lol. You could turn 1/2 into a flatbed for extra weight savings.
How about a full flat bed and just stick a tent to the back it's a win win XD
@@DatBoiOrly sounds like something Richard Hammond would which makes it a silly idea 😂😂.
Except they are in the UK where it rains all the time. Having an enclosed area means they could work on the car in comfort
If they would have access to 240vac they could get a portable spray booth which is inflatable. Only trouble with that is anchoring it down and putting it away afterwards.
"You complete and utter toss-pot"
"Sorry"
"No, I meant the useless tool"
"Christ man, I said sorry"
The banter between these guys is incredible
Looking forward to seeing this build progress guys 😊
it's not easy shedding the weight of an early 80's Mini, but that's what they've done. 840kg drop is nothing to sneeze over.
I couldn't believe it's almost two years since you started this project.
I just thought you couldn't top the unadulterated Binkyness of bracketry in my life & then you go & do this , hallelujah , outstanding tosspotyness!!!!
I have been watching all the van life and camper life videos so this will be interesting
You might like my channel then mate .
Well isn't that a lovely colour.
Yes, it isnt.
Project Kinky?
Looks like you pulled enough scrap out of it to pay for purchase price. Winning.
Hi guys,I have an 86 ford cargo but a 14 tonner, mines a race car transporter too, with living. I also have a cantilever tail lift fitted.
Your build I am watching carefully as old truck conversation are great. 👍
Good luck on the weight loss program as my old truck was a merc 814 and I was always close to the 7.5t limit with both my cars in.
Hence the upshift to a 14t truck.
Can’t wait to see more videos.
Back in the 1990's there was a tv show that came on bbc after school. Can't remember the name of those two but these two guys remind me of them..except these guys don't make a mess out of it.
Woot woot our dose of quality content and proper tea manners!
sandblasting the frame will remove many many kilos of dead rusted weight
But wouldn't that remove the essence which makes it a Ford?
@@yorickhunt3371 Well if it was a Chevy, (or anything Brit, or Italian) it'd not be there any longer to sandblast, having succumb to the metal termites long ago, so at least it still has essence (~_^)
Even just pressure-cleaning underneath would've removed quite a few kilos!
@@jpkalishek4586 nonsense, if it was British (and the owner always topped up the engine oil) then there'd be a nice healthy layer of oil on everything
@@hairyneil May well be so, for where they are at . . . but I live in the land of Road Salt. Up here, the stuff might have a decent engine and tranny, with a pumpkin well soaked, and everything else looking like it is returning to the ore from whence it came.
Nik's comment at 10:40 about made me fall out my chair!
Ditto.
I enjoy watching this more than any TV-show.
Jez what a job to take on. Will definitely be a nice addition to the garage and a handy way to transport vehicles.
Great video. Single high pressure alloy wheels, and eco diesel engine and transmission should help, oh and if you swap the chassis out for an aluminum one. :-)
No. Lightening holes, surely.
Heh the subtle head nods to mcm wernt overlooked 😉
Mighty Car Mods?
For those of us not in the loop, what was that reference?
Oh the bit where they were making lube comments n tite nuts etc
@@omnibuildersnz I was thinking the same thing.
Did he also say "yarp" as a referenced to Hot Fuzz?
Liking the new format men 👍 first job for that old girl is a Cummins 5.9 out of a daf 45. Give that old girl some jip
Love the 5.9, but no idea what a "daf 45" is. 'Round here, the 5.9 is found in regular pickup trucks.
But this build is a Ford... how about a 7.3 Powerstroke? Or even a 7.3 IDI?
immikeurnot there in the uk mate. The daf 45 a small lorry normally used for recoveries etc. I don’t think we’re gonna get a 7.3 idi over here at a good price.
This channel is just getting even better. Hats off boys!
You boys make stripping an old tug look interesting - well done..
