You're probably right, but the effort needed to repeatedly cut cardboard or clamshell packaging with scissors is like hauling buckets of tar up a ladder to a roof. Not to mention the odds of slicing your hand open on clamshell packaging, that shit should come with a warning.

Happy that you demonstrated carpet tile and the synthetic grass. I was looking for a gauge on cutting carpet. Everybody says it shines for clamshell or blister packaging, but on 99% of products, you can just slide a knife through the mounting hole against the cardboard and slide it around the edge and it cuts quickly and easily.

  • @brandonlee8400

Black & Decker has had one of these FOREVER. I use snips on blister packs. The one time I instead used a grinder (because it was right next to my Christmas gift battery charger I was trying to open on the bench), I cut right through the electrical connection next to the unit. It was hidden from the front under an insert.

I just bought the 12v Makita "Power Cutter." The cutting head end looks the same as this Ryobi. I bought the Makita tool because I thought less power would exempt the cutter from several jobs that I wanted out of it. The 12v works well. This is one of my most used Ryobi tools. I use it weekly to break down boxes to fit into my recycle bin. I always challenge myself to see how much I can fit into my bin and haven't failed yet! lol While most people who get large boxes from TVs, etc just put them out to the curb, I break it down to fit into my recycle bin. Love this tool!

I use this and like it alot. It’s not perfect and definitely isn’t the most powerful or fastest tool but I can cut a whole lot of blister packs or cardboard with much less effort then a utility knife or scissors. There actually is a battery charge level indicator right next to the top switch. Definitely not a pro tool but far from useless and I do like it a lot.

This tool and tools like it are trying to create void and fill it but scissors and knives already fill that space. To me, I'll stick to scissors and knives for package opening or cutting cardboard and fabrics. This seemed like a cool idea and I almost purchased one of these during one of the Christmas sales till I stepped back and thought about it for a minute. This thing is either an impulse buy or you'll use and abuse it (then its not for you anyways).
