Both the Tim Minchin musicals I've seen have that one song in Act 2 that is just hype af. First Revolting Children and now this! Also, this song becomes kinda funny in hindsight when you remember that in the original script for the movie, Rita was going to be going through her own time loop.
I'm honestly not sure. Time windows are really weird for Tony noms, and considering how much hype this show is getting I wouldn't be surprised if it made this year's.
I think it’s actually “revolving rhymes” because it’s going back and forth between them. The line right after says “it’s only fun because you know it’s a duet” so I think that makes the most sense

James Lobb, no I haven't. I'm sure it is incredible, except the point was whether ot not he's using styles never meant to be heard on broadway before, which is not true of the songs I've heard so far. The original post mentioned punk, yet Green Day have a musical.
In that case I would agree with you then, you're right in saying punk rock is hardly an alien genre to broadway - if this even quite qualifies as punk rock. However, even if the genres are hardly new (or the story behind it), as a whole entity (and aside from Hamilton) I'd still call this one of the most ground-breaking musicals in recent years. I hope you are pleasantly surprised by the rest of the cast recording when it's released, like I was when I first heard it.
How is it groundbreaking then? Things that are amazingly good aren't necessarily groundbreaking. I expect it to be great, so the only way I'd be surprised is if it's crap.

I'm guessing it's the plot of the Bill Murray film of the same name. Bill Murray's character finds out that, after going to bed on Groundhog Day (February 2nd I think), he wakes up and it's Groundhog's Day all over again. He's in this endless loop. He tries to start doing thing differently, being kinder to people and giving up his time to be with people he wants to connect with. To be honest, I haven't seen the film in forever. I remember in the movie, the guy kidnaps the groundhog that is supposed to look for his shadow...and the two of them drive off a cliff (the guy can't die because he'll just wake up again in his bed on Groundhog Day). He also is nicer to a homeless guy. But that's all I recall. I'm guessing the musical changes a lot from the movie's plot to make it more interesting.
barbaro267 That’s a very bland explanation of a brilliant movie (I’ll forgive you since you say you haven’t seen it in forever 😜) Anyway, how I’d explain it is that Bill Murray’s character is a grumpy weatherman who is once again forced to report on the Groundhog Day festival which he very much dislikes. When he and his producer Rita go there to report on it, he’s very glad that it’s over and is ready to head back home. Unfortunately for Phil, a blizzard strikes forcing them to stay another night. When he wakes up it’s Groundhog Day again... and again. As the film goes on he begins to realize his love for Rita and goes through a huge character arc as he becomes a much more selfless and loving person. I honestly think that the musical changes some charming aspects of the movie for the worse, making things too vulgar, etc. I do really enjoy some songs in the musical such as this one though.

I love that her lyrics are about how amazing having all the time in the world would be and his is no it is horrible I wish I could die.
Tim Minchin is my boy, so I won't even be mad if this beats Dear Evan Hansen at the Tonys.

Honestly not a fan of the Punk treatment in the arrangement - I was there, and living through it once was enough for me. Love the melody and lyrics.
