    Whenever I am in Idaho I make time to drive from Boise to Stanley and admire the majestic Sawtooth mountains.

    Breathtaking. I can't wait to move to Idaho. We live in West Virginia now but we're going to buy a home in Coeur d Alene in the next two months. I can't wait to take my family camping in Idaho!! Thank you for this gorgeous video. Idaho is paradise.

      I lived in coeurd'alene for years it's a cool town there are quite a few lakes In the county the bigger lakes being lake coeurd'alene Hayden lake spirit lake and twin lakes are decent sized lakes as well fernan lake is pretty decent sized as well. The largest lake in Idaho is in the north or the panhandle and that's lake pendorielle which the far southern end sits in kootenai county the town of Bayview is cool the navy tests submarines in Bayview if you like water north Idaho is your spot the Selkirk mountains have lots of lakes. Here are some rivers of north Idaho the Spokane river which starts in Idaho the kootenai river the coeurd'alene river the saint Joe river the saint Mary's river the pack river the moyie river the Clark fork river both the moyie river and Clark fork river start in montana but flow through Idaho. The pendorielle river priest river and priest lake are far north. There are many creeks as well. The Chain lakes down highway 3 are worth checking out. Rose lakes are also in kootenai county black lake swan lake cave lake medicine lake Anderson lake Elsie lake in Shoshone county. The coeurd'alene river also in the panhandle of Idaho. Benawah lake and the benawah river saint Marie's Idaho. The list goes on you can get a forestry service map of the Idaho panhandle national forest the kaniksu national forest and lo lo national forest the map should show you how much water is in the panhandle of Idaho. The saint Joe river also starts in montana and flows into Idaho you should check out montana it's a cool place and colorado if you haven't already Colorado is my home state it's an awesome place for sure. The bitter root mountains have some lakes as well.

    Grown up in Idaho almost my entire life and have always enjoyed the types of views you can't see from a car.. I have a boyfriend who is an out-of-stater moved up from the south. He told me one day while we were visiting his old home in the south that nothing in Idaho is even as special or beautiful as the hardwood forest. I just shook my head and smiled. He hasn't seen central Idaho. Hasnt ever seen the salmon runs or the Sawtooths or Glacier National park or Yellowstone. He's not been to the lava tubes or jump creek. Never visited a ghost town. Never hiked 2 miles to boil an egg and have a soak in a hot spring.... Yet!
    Your video is amazing. Makes me so excited to show him one by one a few reasons Idaho is way better the farther you go away from town

      Yes, the gem state, Idaho, is a diamond in the rough with some really, really beautiful areas like the Sawtooths that are a bit off the beaten path. However, that's just part of what makes them so special.

      Grey and green feathers have you ever been to north Idaho aka the panhandle of Idaho? Have you seen the hemlock forests in the moyie springs area and towards Canada. The hemlock trees are pretty big and the oldest growth forest in Idaho for as far as I know sits in the north. North Idahos remote locations are worth checking out their not very well known of course there is coeurd'alene and other towns the temperate rain forests of the far north of Idaho known as almost Canada there is no other spot like it in the state.

    Wow, what spectacular scenery, beautifully filmed. Makes you want to drop everything and head out there now. Milkshakes?? It's a beer for us when we reach civilisation, lol!!! Well done. Looking forward to more videos.

      Thanks! A cold beer afterwards is always amazing; however, the hand-dipped milkshakes from the Smiley Creek Lodge just up the road from the trailhead really hit the right spot too.

    Well done video, and awesome trek. I was looking for info on this area, and your video is making me want to do this trek this summer. I'm guessing you were there in June or early July?

    • @apbutterfield
      @apbutterfield  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! Our visit was actually in early August.

      @@apbutterfield Gotcha. Thanks for the reply. sounds like the summer mosquitos are really bad, but we may actually get to see some snow in june or july?

    • @apbutterfield
      @apbutterfield  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      There were still some mosquitoes in early August, but they weren't as bad as I've experienced in other places.

    Great video. I am planning a trip out there for the end of August. Just curious about air quality- couldn't tell if it looked hazy in your video of if it was just caused by sunlight. Did the wildfires affect your trip at all?

    • @apbutterfield
      @apbutterfield  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, wildfire smoky haze muted the normally crisp blue skies during the week of our visit in early August. It was unfortunate timing because the week after and the week prior were both pretty clear.

    • @apbutterfield
      @apbutterfield  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've not seen any maps where it has a name, but the few camp sites below the slide did look like they might be nice.
