100% agree on the tec cam and 16T sprocket. Turns the bike from one that is bordering on frustrating on faster roads to a bike you can easily live with. Just done the fishing rubber tube seal fix to the dash to prevent fogging and pleased to report that works too. Sintered pads fix poor brakes. SAS seats in north wales UK (ships worldwide) re-upholsters and pads the seat for £80 and all day comfy, flat and slightly raised to reduce knee bend. Steve is an upholsterer and has patterns for all types of bike seats and done over 400x himalayans (he is on facebook).hope travels go well!

Glad to hear you got 'er up and running again with the new piston and TEC cam. The cam and sprocket sound like legit, useful upgrades vs trying to turn the Himalayan into something that it's not with a lot of other pointless mods... that often cause more headaches than they're worth. Anyway, nice to hear it all worked out in the end.

      Thanks for the comments
I think this upgrade is just enough to keep the balance of this great bike while addressing what I see as the only weak point. I've had Japanese sport liter bikes so I'm not saying this is rocking power but it makes the Himalayan a more rounded machine

I trust your judgment. Seems like a practical, purposeful, useful upgrade.

Hi Steve great videos, how are you finding the new seat I want one but way more expensive here in the UK coming out to Joshua Tree in september so going to pick one up there and bring home cos the stock seat is terrible

I love the seat. As far as stick seats they all are deficient as they are not built with a dip but more like a log. I did think the Himalayan seat was as good as any stock seat I've come across but Seat Concepts makes an amazing product. In surprised they won't just ship to you in the UK.. They do take some time to get custom made so order early. It's quite likely I'll be in that area toward fall as well. Joshua Tree is spectacular

Hello Steve,, My bike also has a tec cam and fitted at the same time a 16t sprocket..I had the work done at my dealer and the mech explained he noticed the extra power right away(having just ridden a stock bike) I however never noticed much difference until the end of the running period, now I,m very happy with it... I,m in much the same position as you,,I,v just retired ,own a house and want/need to do some travelling..But this summer life and house maintenance stuff is just stopping me.. I just wonder if you lived in Daytona in 1976,because in that year I went to the Daytona races from the UK and saw Steve Baker win in the rain (I think maybe it was Kenny ,oh lord cannot remember)anyway,, I,v got alot of mods on my bike ,,but I want another and last one ,,I want the big bore kit,, I want more power low down ,,I LIKE GRUNTY BIKES!!!!!! I never go over 5000revs ,and hardly ever go over 60mph,,but I get my kicks going round corner in a highish gear 3/4th and thrashing out using the torque (oh i just love doing that) I should grow up,,, Cheers Phil Swain

Thanks for the video, very useful information. Im looking at a himalayan that already has a TEC camshaft installed. I was curious if you could tell me how the 16 tooth sprocket does off road? The bike im buying comes with a 15 tooth installed but a 16 tooth on the side with some other spare parts. Do you think i should have the 16 tooth installed?

Without a cam upgrade, changing to a 16 tooth sprocket will bog the bike down at low speed and it really won't be able to pull it at high speed. Almost everyone goes back to 15 tooth HOWEVER it's a whole different story with the cam installed. The cam adds more bottom end torque than is required by the cam and has the horsepower to pull another tooth at speed keeping rpms in line. It's a great conversion.

@@stevesjourney7000 awesome, thank you. I’ll probably install it once I get the bike. I appreciate the quick reply

Nothing good came of replacing a perfectly good quality well manufactured cam from quality materials heat treated correctly with some fucking crappy aftermarket piece of dog shit made out of cheese

Yeah, I only got considerably more torque and the ability to pull a higher gear on the front sprocket keeping my launch about the same but significantly improving higher speed cruises. I guess 22,000 miles without cam wear says enough for me. Sorry to hear it doesn't suit you. What was your real world experience?

Nice video , I am on my way down africa west coast from Denmark to South Africa on the himalayan , and just got the Garmin device.. hmm maby i should get the insurance for the helicopter ,,, .. i was thinking of installing the TEC cam before my journey , but i desided to wait until i get home again.. the bike is the euro 5 model from 21 so i havnt got so many miles on it yet, but last year i did a trip on it from Denmark to Northcape and back with no hassle at all .. its a great bike and it will for sure go anywhere
