17 Round Hellcat - Will This Kill the Glock 17 Sized Firearms?

  • Springfield has just released a 17 round magazine for the Hellcar and Hellcat Pro. That is the same capacity that you get in many full sized or duty size guns. Will this make the Glock 17, the full size M&P, HK VP9 and Walther PDP obsolete??

    I like the Hellcat, but even with the Hellcat Pro I don’t want to shoot 300 rounds through it. I can shoot the Glock 26,19,45,17 all day long.
    For some reason, the Glock 26 is more comfortable for me to carry than the Hellcat.

    Will it replace Glock 17 sized guns? In a word, no. The G17 size guns are long time proven as durable, softer shooting and more importantly able to take a steady diet of +p or +p+ rounds without beating itself up prematurely shortening its lifespan. The Hellcat and its equivalent G43/Sig365 etc are like k frame and smaller .357 magnum revolvers of old. You practice with .38s and carry .357s to keep a decent lifespan. The G17 size will be duty/competition/hd guns for a long time to come.

    Will it replace G17 size pistols? Absolutely not. What these micro 9 double stacks like the P365 and Hellcat has done, is to "reshape" the market segment in the Conceal EDC realm.These micro 9 double stacks doesn't replace Duty size pistols. Glock 17 size pistols were never meant for the CC market. If these Micro 9's were G 17 sized killers, we would have seen by now LEO and defense force contracts for these pistols. Slimline pistols just don't have the longevity of service life like a duty type firearm has, and as someone mentioned, duty sized pistols are built for a steady diet of +P ammo aka Nato spec ammo.

    There are tradeoffs for everything in concealed carry. My absolute top consideration is reliability. If it doesn't go bang when your life depends on it, you may as well carry a rock. But smaller and lighter, while that might carry or conceal easier, you pay for that when it comes to shootability. Smaller/lighter = snappier, more recoil, maybe slower to get back on target between shots. Maybe smaller/thinner with more capacity which increases weight, is a good mix to aim for. Easier to conceal but the added weight of more rounds might help with the snappy factor? And then who doesn't want more rounds? So, yeah, it's all tradeoffs.

    Being that the Glock 17 is a military grade pistol and the Hellcat is a straight to civilian market gun that's not really been tested. I'll trust my life to the Glock. It may fit into my carry rotation in the hottest days of summer when I wanna carry something hi-cap, but lighter because I'm wearing less clothing.

      Your comment showed you don't know much about firearms and/or have been brainwashed by other Glock fanboys. Springfield guns are made by HS Produkt and are military grade as they are used by the Croatian military for both side arm and their assault rifles. Where is the Glock military assault rifle? Oh I forgot they don't know how to make a rifle. Springfield are much more reliable than Glock. I've never had a malfunction from any of my Springfields but all of my Glocks have jammed. Springfield(HS Produkt) for the win.

Or how about the cheap plastic sights, yeah sure military grade bahahahahahaha. Springfields all come with metal sights like military weapons should. I have most of the micros 9mm. They serve a purpose but, they are not what i would call a combat gun. They recoil more. They are are not great for larger hands. They heat up very quickly. I also don't think they will have as long of a service life as a larger gun. So i don't think they will ever replace compact or full size guns.

    I don't have the G17, but I do have the other ones. One thing to consider is that, in my opinion, I can shoot the G26 and the G19 way better than the Hellcat and the Hellcat Pro. The G26 and the G19 are super versatile when it comes to capacity. Also, I don't think the Hellcats have any advantage over the Glocks when it comes to capacity. At least the models you mentioned, the Hellcat has an advantage when it comes to conceal and carry. I don't know if the Hellcat Pro even beats the G26 when it comes to concealment. Yes, the Hellcat Pro is slimmer, but it is also larger than the G26

    • @9770G
      @9770G 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The difference in width from the hellcat pro to the g17/g19 is soooo minuscule it’s not even worth mentioning. Also when he sticks in the 15 round mag and 17 rounder into both of those hellcat, it makes the frame just as long as the g19 & g17. Lastly having a longer slide would actually make the g19 and g17 easier to conceal carry than those hellcats with the 17 round mags because the back end will feel very heavy with the hellcats. Simple physics, if u have a long heavy frame and a small slide, the frame is gonna wanna dip down.

    • @DjTumbao
      @DjTumbao 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@9770G how are you ? The 0.26-inch difference in width between the Hellcat Pro and the Glock 17 or Glock 19 makes a world of difference for me. For example, the Hellcat Pro is so uncomfortable to shoot because the trigger guard digs into my knuckles. This would not matter in a self-defense situation, but it does make a huge difference when I am shooting 200 rounds at the range. The 0.26-inch difference also gives me a much better grip on the Glock 26 and Glock 19. I do not have a Glock 17, but I imagine it is the same when it comes to the grip.
      I like to wear fitted clothes, so the 0.26-inch width difference between the Glock 26 and Glock 19 makes a difference when it comes to concealment. I have different ways to conceal my gun depending on what I am wearing. If I am wearing shorts, it is much easier for me to conceal the regular Hellcat than the Glock 26.
      I love all of the Glock 26, Glock 19, and Glock 17 models. I do agree that the Hellcat with the 17-round magazine will be harder to conceal because the magazine will stick out further. It may also be a little heavier. I already think that the 15-round magazine is at the limit of what I would want to carry all day IWB. The X-Macro, which is only slightly longer with the 17-round magazine, is too much for me. I do carry the Sig P365X with a Wilson Combat XL grip, but I still prefer the Glock 26 with a 2 or 3 -round extension or the Glock 19 by far when it comes to the grip.

    Not obsolete but if you need deep concealment in the time of mostly peaceful riots, its nice to have a couple of 17 round back up mags for your CCW.
    Something else of interest if you own both Hellcat models. You can take the slide off the HC Pro and put it on the original HC. Then you have the option of 11 or 13 round concealed carry mag with the longer slide for accuracy and recoil management and 15 or 17 round back up mags.

    Answer to title. No. Even though this new mag for the hellcat adds more rounds it doesn’t change the fact that a larger handgun is easier to shoot. Also the new SA hellcat mag makes the frame just as long as the G17’s frame. This all became clear as day in the video. When the 15 round mag was in the Hellcat, it was just as long as the G19 frame, when he inserted the 17 round mag in the hellcat it was as long as the G17 frame. So no, this was no game changer from SA. Just they created longer mags for more rounds. Nobody is getting rid of their Glocks over this at all. Also, when u AIWB carry that hellcat with the 17 round mag, the back end of the gun will be much heavier than the slide which the laws of physics will make it feel awkward to carry. Where as with the G17 the longer slide will even balance out the weight with the frame. The hellcat will not with those 17 rounders.

    Not if you want to shoot sub 2 second bill drills. Hellcat is snappy as hell and without a comp it won’t get there. Glock 17 does have older mag technology and should be standard to 20 rounds at least but full size and compacts just shoot so much better than subs. The xmacro is the first real contender to replacing a G19/17 size pistol for high standards of shooting.

    @timrobinson6573 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    You're not getting the same reliability. If you just shoot paper on a range then yes. But the smaller guns are more prone to malfunctions from limp wristing, ammo variation, fouling. The amount of time it takes the slide to cycle back then forward into battery is shorter compared to a Glock 17 because of reduced slide weight and distance to travel. Guns like the Hellcat Pro make up for the lighter slide weight with increased spring weight which makes them more finnicky. A gun like the Glock 17 with the heavier slide will reciprocate the slide backward more slowly, reducing the battering of the frame. Then once the slide reaches it most rearward travel and momentarily halts, the relatively heavy Glock 17 slide will accelerate forward more slowly compared to a Hellcat Pro because the 17's slide is heavy and the spring is relatively weak. This gives the extractor and ejector time to kick the fired casing out, it gives the stack of ammo in the mag time to rise. It gives the ammo being fed from the mag time to get under the extractor and get above the edge of the feed ramp.
    With the Hellcat Pro the slide is lighter and so the spring has to be stronger to keep the gun from unlocking too soon and from battering the frame. Also the distance the slide travels rearward is shorter compared to the Glock 17. The stronger spring will help keep the slide from battering the frame when the slide moves rearward but once the slide stops moving rearward, the relatively light slide and heavy spring combo will drive the slide back into battery faster. This give the extractor and ejector less time to do their work, less time for the stack of ammo in the magazine to rise into positions, less time for the new round to get under the extractor. The smaller guns are more finnicky. Also, the frames of the smaller gun can't take as much abuse from recoil over time as a larger framed gun.

Also if u carry the Glocks u have the most widely used handgun platform in the world which makes finding parts 10x easier than the HC’s. Also parts are cheaper and easier to install yourself if you’d like too. The amount of fogey's/luddite's in the comments are crazy lol.
    Train with it and you're not bitching about accuracy of it with the shorter barrel! I've shot the fuck out of Hellcat's and they've been reliable as anything else I've had. Glock folks kill me.. Have fun with your brick idk

    Shill anyone??? It's obvious what channels get the free stuff because they all make videos on the same products on the same day as each other.

      H&S does not shill for anybody. Perhaps you missed their disclaimer (0.33). I've watched their reviews for years and have never found a bias for a loaned or free item. They tell it like it is.

      @@oldkeltec7037 their Springfield product video came out at the same time all the other guntubers did for the same exact product. You surely don't think they all went out and bought the same exact product on the day Springfield released it and dropped vids around the same time by coincidence do you???? LMAO wake up

    Glock doesn’t make a gun as nice as the Hellcat, Hellcat Pro or echelon

      I have both and my preference is the Hellcat. Hellcat has much better trigger, sights and grip.

    You have made a lot of good points. This is a good video. As a Canadian smaller than full service size is illegal. In Canada if you want to carry a firearm join a police force period! Dudes like me are target shooters and competition shooters don't need tiny pistols. I don't anymore have a weapon anyway I just watch to keep up with what's new.
