Thank you for this VERY informational video. I am in my second season of sailing and looking forward to start sailing around the great lakes. -Mark Milwaukee, WI
Some good stuff and some omitted stuff. You talk about magnetic variation, the adjustments are written down per year but you did not mention that at all. If they go straight off a magnetic variation it can be 1,10, 20 or even 30 Degree different depending on the year when the chart was made. If a chart was made in 1991 and It’s variant is 1° every year and the chart said the variation was 10° from when it was made there is an extra 30° to take into account for the magnetic variation. That is a huge difference of direction. If you’re going to teach it, teacher it properly.
That was implied actually. But it was only a 13 minute video, and it’s not expected that one would watch this video and think they now know everything about how to read a chart and compass. If you’re going to comment, say something nice or don’t say anything at all. Or put your own 13 minute video up and see how you go mate if you’re such an expert
@@jasonmitchell4760 I agree, I have no doubt this guy knows what he is talking about. This video isn’t to teach a weekend boater how to shove off in open seas to travel 1500 miles, it’s meant for the guy who loses his gps and needs to understand the basics of getting close enough to home to know where you are
