Thank you for video, just want to comment on one thing because i was lost for a moment their. On the second part CDMVT, you should’ve emphasize that deviation can only be applied on magnetic course, because you said C applying D will get you M, but it contradicts the explanation on your diagram, i tried to explain as best as i can, anyways thank you so much

If I had a true course of 015T Variation 20E Deviation 3W how would you present this using your diagram here is another example Ships Heading 353T Var 20W Dev 5E using the acronym not a problem.

Wait.......deviation is local. So how do you swing a compass and create a compass deviation card at a given location, so that it will be useful to the user at different locations that have different deviation values?

how can one feasibly swing a magnetic compass which is a bubble style? For instance, my sailboat's only compass is a Ritchie Globemaster, and the previous shipowner has lost her deviation card. I'd like to create my own deviation card, and keep a compass record book of sun and star azimuths, as a prudent Mariner should. I unfortunately can't find any type of sighting device that works with globe compasses, only the ones that work with flat compasses like gyro repeaters.

I think the only way would be to line your boat's heading up with a known bearing line, then repeat for as many different bearing lines as you can. You could work out the true bearing using either GPS, leading lights, sun or star aziumths. When you collect enough, it should produce a reasonable deviation card.
