The Thing 1. Halloween
I knew which movie was gonna be your number one 😂 because you usually put more thought into your lists than others. You have inspired me to do a top 5.
I entirely agree with you about John Carpenter's brilliance. I'm particularly a fan of The Thing, Halloween, The Fog and Escape from New York. I do struggle to understand why people love certain of his films so much (perhaps someone can enlighten me). 2 films in particular I think are entirely overrated, so prepare to be annoyed if you're a fan of them. In The Mouth of Madness I struggled to take seriously, there was something up with its tone, I think, like it wasn't sure what tone it was going for. The big one though (meaning the one that p**ses everyone off when I say it) is Big Trouble in Little China. I have watched that film countless times, trying to like it just because it was a John Carpenter film, searching for redeeming qualities, something that will spark enjoyment on any level. The dialogue is constant exposition throughout, seemingly unashamed of that fact, they even try to make the pace of the exposition a joke. Maybe you can get away with that once, but the dialogue constantly bombards you with exposition throughout. By the end I don't know what the hell is going on nor why, probably because my brain switches off and I miss some of the dialogue - boring expositional dialogue will do that, even if it's framed in action. There's too much explanation for me, too much like a radio show than an actual film. Film is supposed to be a visual medium, you shouldn't have to listen so carefully to everything that is said in order to understand what is going on. Anyway, that's my two cents.
My second favourite director (i only love Tarantino more). I've not seen all of Carpenter's films yet, so i'm just ranking the ones i have. Of those i haven't yet seen, i'm most looking forward to In The Mouth Of Madness, and The Ward. My ranking is: 15 Ghosts Of Mars 14 Dark Star 13 Christine 12 Big Trouble In Little China 11 Memoirs Of An Invisible Man 10 Body Bags 9 Vampires 8 They Live 7 Starman 6 Assault On Precinct 13 5 Escape From New York 4 The Fog 3 Prince Of Darkness 2 The Thing 1 Halloween
I especially agree with all your thoughts on Body Bags. The gas station segment with it's Halloween vibes is why this film ranks higher for me than it probably does for most people.
I'm glad you mentioned Darryl Hannah being in Memoirs Of An Invisible Man. Immediately before watching this i watched your Tarantino ranking, and remember you saying you wanted to see other films with her in.if you hadn't mentioned it, i was getting ready to lol.

@@christermyrberg3661 awesome! Very unique. Snake Plissken fan I see
@@themovieranker Kurt Russell is always awesome in every role he does 😎
I think I have only seen the thing and Halloween also the big trouble in little China
Definitely worth checking out more
@@themovieranker most likely am
FAVORITE: Halloween (1978)
LEAST FAVORITE: Village of the Damned (1995)
I’d watch Village Of The Damned fifty times in a row before I’ll watch Ghosts Of Mars again.
@@StarShipGray Yeah it isn’t terrible however at least Ghosts of Mars was fun, goofy and had some decent action.
So do you think that macready is the thing
@@Jack-s5x9b there's evidence that suggests it but personally I don't think so.
With all due respect to fans of HALLOWEEN, if The Thing isn’t your #1 John Carpenter film then you’re doing John Carpenter wrong.
That's all down to personal taste and opinion😋 No prizes for guessing that i prefer Michael over The Thing lol.
