    18->(1+8)*3=27
    12->(1+2)*4=12

    Alternative solution
    let's assume Nicole's current $ is x, then Sarah's current $ is 1.5x
    the equation of both sides' original $ would be:
    1.5x+500=2(x-500)
    x=3,000
    so Nicole's original $ was 3k-500=2,500

    x = 1.744
    so the increased percentage is 174%

    Workings at 23:00 are wrong when you do 12 ÷ 2(3-1), you solve the parenthesis component first. 3-1 = 2. Then its 12 ÷ 2(2), you still solve the parenthesis component first which then becomes 12 ÷ 4 eventually getting to 3.

    • @jubairen3040
      @jubairen3040 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Volume of a cube= 'a' raised to 3
      Volume of cube 1st would be 5 raised to 3 equals 125.
      If the side length increased by 40%, each side would be (5*40)/100= 7.
      In that case volume of 2nd cube would be 7 raised to 3 equals 343.
      Now, calculate the % of volume increase.
      (343/125)*100= 274%

    • @nathabjones2923
      @nathabjones2923 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      volume is base*width*height, if each side is 5 then 5*5*5=125, 5 increased by 40% = 7 so 7*7*7= 343. To get percentage 343/125=2.744*100 = 274.4% which we can round to 274%

    The answer in the cube problem is completely wrong.
    The correct way to calculate percentage change is; [(X_final/X_starting)-1]*100.
    For example, lets say that you've been selling something for 3$, but today you decided that you will be selling it for 6$.
    The percentage change will be (6/3)-1 and all that multiplied with 100%.
    That being said, the percentage change for this problem equals to 100%. Which means that it was an increase of 100% of its starting value.
    Following your reasoning, if the percentage change was (6/3)*100%=200%, you would have been selling your product for 9$.
    This is completely wrong, I do enjoy your videos & I am a subscriber, but please be careful because people will get confused in case they do not know how to tackle such problems.
    Anyway, cheers!
