My S23 was knocked into the lake in 7 feet of water. Found it on the bottom two days later. I first took the back plate off to dry it out, hoping to save pictures at best. I found no trace of water inside the phone. I dried out USB C and sim card slot. Replaced back and charged it up. Everything works fine. Speaker/Mic/Camera all good as ever. That is an amazing phone. Probably not waterproof now that I have removed the back, but not planning on dropping it in the lake again😊
I think the reason why we, S23+ owners, are watching this is because we want to do it so badly, but we prefer not to, and just watch other people do it. Its kinda fun. 😂
@Mootux I have these urges from time to time. Last time, it's "what will happen if I placed my phone in the microwave?" And another one is unrelated, but it's "Coke plus milk? Sounds interesting." Thank youtube. 🤣
Finally a real scratch test and done on both sides! I'd suggest when testing the keys in the pocket to take a walk and sit a few times to make it even more realistic scenario.
@@aadityalove0actually his keys seemed pretty clean while other keys that have debris or that are dirty do a lot more damage to the screen of the phone.
Glad you did the sand and gravel test because that's how keys scratch a phone screen in your pocket. Clean keys are totally different than one that's picked up debris.
Great test thanks! I'm tired of all those stupid tests with knives and razors when its most likely tiny sand particles that are going to scratch up the phone. Based on your results, I'm definitely keeping a screen protector on my phone.
Nice Scratch test in the dirt and rocks. Thanks for that. When you have some dirt or sand in the pocket that can damage the screen badly. But nobody test stuff like that. Amazing work
Ouais bien vu !
Great testing! On the other hand, I would always wonder why people always put coins, keys and their cell phone in the same pocket, jeans do have two separate pockets though... You really have to have a sparrow's memory to forget that you shouldn't put your smartphone with all these objects...
What surprises me the most is that when you submerged the phone it didn't complain that the charging port was wet and wouldn't let you charge it. This happened to me all the time when I got my Galaxy S21U wet and it's incredibly annoying and very hard to get rid of.
Thank you for going to these extremes for us to know what not to do or what to di. I just got a S23. I have never had a more up to date phone. I came from android 9 to this android 14 with One UI 6.0 Beta. I had a micro USB and no for the first time I have USB-C.
I bought mine last Friday. I got a tiny little but deep scratch from just keeping it in my pocket. I could've sworn my pockets had no sand, dust, keys or coins :( Be careful and get a screen protector.
Yes same here...just forgot 1-2 times kept bike keys with steel key ring along same pocket of the phone. No idea how can this even scratch with latest CGG Victus 2. It's just worst experience from my previous phones. Prob CGG 5 was best atleast as scratch resistant
Came by one Indian tech youtuber mentioned apparently there is 'quartz' found in environment which is not visible to eye & is of hardness-scale 7. So can scratch too just by rubbing inside pocket or while cleaning on shirts outside
Great work with the scratch test, very realistic. We can see the major problem is, and have always been, sand. The quartz crystals really destroy the glass screen. I believe the newer iPhones have a different and more resistant glass tech that can survive this scenario. Either way, I'm not using a screen protector on my S23, I believe it`s good enough as it is.
I've always wondered why Jerryrig gets scratches at lower levels than a lot of other people. He must use a good bit of force. In any case I enjoy your videos!
Great content. If anyone buys an 800 to 1,200 or more phone, and don't use a good case and screen protector and you drop your phone, then you get what you deserve.
So you pay that money for premium materials and then keep it the rest of the ownership in a condom. It's the same as buying a car with a leather interior and using it without removing the plastic protection from the seats because you want them to be like new after 5 years.
id like to see more of how durable the aluminum frame is when it comes to scratches. This is portion of the phone that most people end up damaging with cases.
I have a serious question, so as for the camera, the camera on the back of the phone, do you think or know that its safe to put in your pocket? And it wont scratch ?
The only problem I have with all scratch tests is they aren't accurate because of the oleophobic coating that comes on all new phones. Once that coating starts to wear off then you should do the scratch test
I don't think so, the case should protect it and also the quality of the frame material is good so should hold up for a long time. Scratches might be another thing but color should be ok.
I'm also using the green Galaxy S23 and I bought it recently, but unfortunately my phone's side got some scratches and I wanna remove that. Can I actually do that for myself?
Are the sides of the S23 Graphite matte, while the sides of the others S23 (Phantom Black, cream, lavender) are glossy? I'm asking because I greatly prefer the opaque/matte sides

This physically and mentally pained me. Even more than jerry rig everythings durability tests somehow. Did you film 2:10 on a motorola edge 30 fusion? Mine has that same awful mic issue
lol yep, its painful to do as well but people keep asking to see it so yup. Also its funny you mention that (the edge 30 fusion). I know I used a edge 30 fusion for the scratch portion with the sand, but I'm not sure if I used a S23 Ultra, an iPhone 13 Pro max, the Edge 30 Fusion or a Vivo X90 Pro+ for the scene at 2:10. Its been a while so I forget since I used multiple phones for recording different scenes of that video. But considering that mic sound being the same as yours, It might have been the Edge 30 fusion.
well everyone else wanted it and was happy I did that. it's just an extreme test. obviously most people won't do that, but there are a lot of people who work in construction or in the field and drop their phones in sand, dirt or gravel daily so yep. 😃👍
