After watching his documentary and catching up on his fights I have nothing but the utter most respect for Buakaw. He had the money to move... he stayed in his tiny poor village built a gym so he could be around his family. He was never cocky, never had an attitude, and was just suuuuper humble. In his fights it's like he always knew when a blow he through was going to end the fight cause he would almost do "walk off" KO's. It is like the second something connects with the power he knows he put behind it he stops and the opponent drops. Makes him an excellent sportsmans.

He has great defense at any range, and an unbeatable clinch game. He throws every opponent he faces around like a ragdoll and he hasn't lost a fight in years that wasn't a bullshit robbery decision. Imo more of a workhorse type of fighter. Dont get me wrong, I love buakaw, tho I wouldnt put him higher than say even Saenchai in a muay thai fight under muay thai rules.And Saenchai is what like ranked 3 or 4 depending on who you ask. My problem with the guys above him tho is that they are mostly clinch fighters that win on points. Being Luk khrueng myself I cheer for buakaw in k1, but I dont watch him to snatch up new technices.

He's trained all his life in the stand up game of muay thai. His striking and defense style is very muay thai-specific and is ingrained in him. He would have to un-train a lot of things in his style he couldn't do in MMA.

Here is the proof: 1) If you are against the cage and defending a takedown, if your opponent puts his hand on the floor, so cannot knee to the face which is a disadvantage because he can work you all day but you cant ge yourslef out. Or elbow. 2)A grappler can sit on you the entire match and all though may not be doing anything other than just sitting he can sit on you as long as he wants. 3) As a striker you can not knee or kick to the face of a "downed" opponent. Downed being hand on the ground. Jon Jones is the perfect example. (if you a mma watcher you will understand the reference.) But a grappler can drop a knee onto your belly while in guard. Jon Jones is the perfect example. (if you a mma watcher you will understand the reference.) 4) Cannot throw downward elbows. Heaven to hell as the call it. Perfect for getting worked against the fence. 5) As a striker you cannot throw open hand strikes, although the gloves allow it. 6) And finally, as a striker you cannot punch intentionally to the neck or collarbone area BUT as a grappler there is no rule stating one cannot use neck cranks and twist to cause a submission. He would get owned these day's at Ratchamadern Stadium(dunno if I spelt that right) or Lumpini Stadium for that matter. No doubt though he did more for exposure and popularity of Muay thai to Western Audience's than any other Nak Muay. Saenchai and Yod Fairtex are beasts these day's they show no signs of slowing down
