When I was in college in North Carolina 25 years ago I got a part-time job with a cobbler and I got to the point where he trusted me enough to do heels and sand soles, and it was the most enjoyable job I've had except maybe a stint as a film projectionist before digital made the job obsolete. It's great to see a young person who's a master at this on TH-cam, it's an ancient tradition that needs to be preserved in our throwaway world.
Being trained in boot and shoe repair in my youth i loved this, it took me back to how technical and difficult a skill it can be to learn. I understand the joy this guy felt when he looked at his finished job and was amazed at his incredible skill.
FIRST TIME seeing channel, I am a male and was a hair sylist for over 25 years, got injured in 2008 and have now found a passion for leather work and now shoe repair, you definitely have been blessed with a true talent, really enjoyed the air gun design you did on sole of the shoe, if you do not mind I would love to use it in my leather works!!! CHEERS HOPE VACATION GOES WELL !!!! BE BLESSED BE LOVE!!!
These repairs are such a treat to witness. The craftsmanship and attention to every detail are a joy to watch. The individuals who can simply walk in and drop off their items for this level of work are truly blessed.
First-time viewer here; bought a very expensive pair of shoes yesterday and having seen what can be done, will definitely be repairing rather than replacing them when the time comes! Hope you enjoyed Egypt!
Really nice to see someone who takes pride in their work, my Dad was a shoe repairer, who also took pride, brought back a lot of memories, Thank you for showing.
Customers sons reaction was priceless: "you called me in here to open a box of shoes?" meanwhile the daughter knows how to share in the excitement of another persons interests in life. dont worry though, the son will one day appreciate good shoes and the cobblers who spend countless hours perfecting the craft.
"Fine as frogs hair" ...!!! I've never heard that. I LOVE it. So cute. Watching your work makes me really appreciate your craft. Thank you for the good, quality content.
Love your channel Dan. You do such a great job. Love the jokes and the antics! I'm in the U.S. and I'm 67 years old. When I was a young lad my dad had a shoe repair shop in our basement that he did as a side job. I spent many an hour in the basement helping out with the shoe repair chores. Please keep the content coming.
Aside from doing an excellent job, this man is a natural in front of the camera ( if anybody in the industry is watching ... ) and makes this whole thing quite entertaining. I'll watch more !
This is "the industry" now. Dont want some TV company making a fortune abd giving you hardly anything. This one video might of made him over £2500 by now.
I found a pair of Ferragamo loafers for 10 bucks in a thrift store . I washed and scrubbed them in a bucket with dishsoap , then stuffed them with newspaper ( changing paper often ) then rubbed them with mink oil and they look perfect , the creases even came out . I had nothing to loose .
@@katarinakatarinovic4854it’s made the same way as olive oil but instead use live mink They put loads of them in a barrel and slowly lower a lid squeezing the natural oils out of the mink 😮
Wow lol. Spent 25 mins watching shoes be repaired. I never knew it was like this at all, I usually just buy a new pair of shoes. This was incredible! Love the enthusiasm
I have the same cravings, 3 pairs of very nice shoes 2 for everyday use, alternating each other day. A very nice pair for those extraordinary occasions as weddings, funerals, graduations and of course the Nobel prize dinner. And a summer pair of boots, and a pair for nordic winters. They will cost a fortune, but some day the lottery goes well.
Let me tell you I’m not a rich guy but I like to save up for nice things. I wear a suit for work sometimes when I come in from the field so I saved for a pair of Ferragamos. They are the absolute most comfortable dress shoes you’d ever want to wear. I even saved up for a second pair of loafers to use more casually. If you can get yourself a pair. You won’t be disappointed lol
@@chrisdooley6468 Thank you for the advice, I heartily agree with you. I will eventual add a pair to my wardrobe, just need to justify it to the fiancee haha
My first time watching the channel. What an amazing job! My father, A"H, ran a shoe repair business back in the 1960's in Atlantic City, NJ. I remember spending hours in the store with the big machines running, the smell of the leather and polishes...really brings back good memories. Was also good to see a frum family engage your services and really appreciate what the quality and artistry of your work. Thanks for making the video!
My grandfather was a shoemaker. I can’t count how many hours I spent in his workshop just looking at him work. The smells was amazing. I even was put to work doing the soles s on the wood clogs. Always a way to earn an ice cream. My uncle took over the machines and tools. Who knows / I might get them some day Good work.
In the seventies my parents could not afford new shoes so I spent many a evenings at the shoe maker getting repairs to my school shoes and yes, the smell of glue and leather is nice and nostalgic to this day…
As a woman I would NEVER have thought I would ever, I mean EVER, thought I would watch a cobbler repair a pair of shoes. Wow!!! I would just go purchase a new pair... your skills are TOP NOTCH. I especially loved the special layering of dye on soles, stunning...thank you for sharing....keep on vlogging!!!! Enjoy your vacation...👞🥾👢🥿👠
I have always had my good shoes repaired by a cobbler. I have a few pairs of Ferragamos myself that I have had re-soled: but nothing like this man’s work!
I used to repair shoes as a parttime job in my childhood. The happy faces of the customers when they see the results is the real reward. I was pretty good at it, I also worked with Johan Rendenbach soles and expensive shoes, but what you show here is the next level. Absolutely a great job!
Nice pipes!! It's great to see that there are still people carrying on a very useful craft. An awful lot of people buy junk shoes and boots (foreign made) these days and they cannot be repaired. I believe in quality and paying for it because it does last if properly taken care of. I had 3 pair of Frye boots which I could no longer wear and gave two pair away to friends and one pair to my sister. She is still wearing them 45 years later and they look almost new. I paid $175.00 for them in 1982 and they're still going strong. But because I had them resoled before they wore down to the stacked leather heel the repairs never cost me much. Nice job on the overhaul of the Ferragamo's.
For me this was an eye opener! I would call it a piece of art. The way you went about doing your job was like watching an artist painting a picture. Thank you for sharing.
Never watched a shoe repair befor. I'm not disappointed being a maker myself I always love watching other makers in thier eliment with thier trade of choice. I love it and will most definitely be watching more of your videos.
If any of my shoe bottoms looked this good I would never stand up but always have my feet up or legs crossed to show them off. It’s like a work of art on the bottom of your shoe. ❤️
That customer is gonna pee his pants when he sees how great his freshly restored and improved shoes came out. I grew up with stories of my paternal grandfather who owned several shoe factories in the 40's and all the old world craftmanship that went with that. So nice to see those skills brought forward. Great video.
well in Leon mexico , there are still some companies making total handmade shoes , we are making around a hundred million pairs each year , saludos desde mexico
I’m finding myself watching shoe repair and new construction and I can’t believe how entertaining it is. I’m more amazed at the craftsmanship of these masters.
Wow, that is awesome. Such wonderful craftsmanship! The airbrushing effect is a great classy look for relatively little effort/cost but the look of a million bucks. Creativity and craftsmanship…my faith in humanity is restored!
Brings back memories of my days as a cobbler. The training was "Always clean up" and when i first watched your video and saw your gluepot i thought thats a no no, then you said you cleaned it lol. Something to bear in mind, your finisher is belt driven and that dust builds up inside around the motor and it can overheat and cause it to fail. We used the airline to blast the dust from inside the finisher to save any problems. I'm now going to watch your other videos because they are very entertaining.
I wish we still had cobblers here in the States. I remember an Amish man in Ohio. My grandpa took me with him. You could sit and watch the repair. Just amazing.
WOW! I've briefly visited a few shoe repair stores. But, I never really stuck around long enough to notice the process. Your video gave me a great education on this incredibly art. Watching you it is obvious that you love what you do and give every detail your full attention and passion. I had open heart surgery a few years ago and really hope that my surgeon had the same dedication and skill that you do. BRAVO!!!!
This is a perfect example of a job that you would expect to not exist anymore, and it seems dull, but when you see what it entails, you really appreciate the skill
I agree with your opinion. It is also interesting to know your opinion about my videos. In one of the videos, I made a leather clutch with a jewelry lock in the form of brass knuckles from a ring.
The fiddleback sole really gives the shoes a bespoke look, and Dan . this is one of the many areas your repairs shine. You hand craft the best looking fiddlebacks! Check out other channels if you don't believe me. You are definitely, without a doubt, the BEST! 🔥🔥👍🏼👍🏼🔥🔥
Great job there. My grandpa did this hiw whole life, even at the end of his life he would go to his small shop that looked like it came from those '50's movies (because it actually did) i allways found a special charm to it, spent many afternoons with him just hanging around watchim him doing his amazing form of art, as i considere it, not just a job. My biggest regret is that i never learned his art tho he was more than willing to teach me. There's something special about having those old shoes you liked and felt confortable in but that were used by time back to life and shiny as new all thanks to the dedication of someone that loves his job (yes its an hard one, trust me) but in the end like my grandpa used to say, "there's allways something rewarding when u see the custumer's reaction when you hand them their repaired shoes and knowing they'll last at least a few more years instead of them having to go buy brand new low quality made shoes that will literaly desintegrate themeselves in few months".
Wow Dan. Came across this Video by chance. What an amazing pair of shoes. That fella will have to walk around on his hands now. They are far smarter underneath. Now I know how much work you put into shoe repairs. You repaired sole and heels on mine earlier this year. Ok , they are only Clark’s shoes. I’ve had them for 25 yrs. now they are like new.
I understand the joy this guy felt when he looked at his finished job and was amazed at his incredible skill.
well, yeah this dude turns into other dudes to protect our soles. that is a hard job.
P.S. just watched the Cobbler with Adam Sandler
The customer reaction was fantastic. His subdued wow moment was like a deafening "squee!!!"
His face said it all.
These repairs are such a treat to witness. The craftsmanship and attention to every detail are a joy to watch. The individuals who can simply walk in and drop off their items for this level of work are truly blessed.
That sole design, especially the spray effect was incredible. Master at work.
Yes, he really puts his sole into his work.
First-time viewer here; bought a very expensive pair of shoes yesterday and having seen what can be done, will definitely be repairing rather than replacing them when the time comes!
Hope you enjoyed Egypt!
It's so nice seeing this skill-intensive old craft these days. Even though it can be extremely labour-intensive just as well.
Really nice to see someone who takes pride in their work, my Dad was a shoe repairer, who also took pride, brought back a lot of memories, Thank you for showing.
Yes I agree
I thought of my dad as well
Customers sons reaction was priceless: "you called me in here to open a box of shoes?"
meanwhile the daughter knows how to share in the excitement of another persons interests in life. dont worry though, the son will one day appreciate good shoes and the cobblers who spend countless hours perfecting the craft.

My dad was a shoe repair man for all his life this video brought back so many memories sitting in his shop .Thank you for this video.
Glad you enjoyed it man
I’ve never seen the process of a shoe repair. This is a work of art! Absolutely beautiful sir! You are a true craftsmen!
I never thought watching a shoe repair and restoration would be so intensely calming and soothing lol... Who knew
Sus
I was thinking the same thing...lol
Hmmm
What a nice shop!! It's really nice to see artisans like you pursuing traditional work like this.
I love seeing all the machines and tools that remind me so much of my youth. Thanks for doing this channel and for being such a positive part of so many people's lives. Please keep the content coming.
Aside from doing an excellent job, this man is a natural in front of the camera ( if anybody in the industry is watching ... ) and makes this whole thing quite entertaining. I'll watch more !
@Stingray Ha !

Mink oil is amazing for leather goods. I treat my boots with it and always get compliments on my NEW boots, while they're 5 yrs old.😅
@@marciloni12Mink oil ??

Can't believe how well that turned out. It's more a recreation with your wonderful interpretation of the original than just a repair. Skilful talent.
I love how the customers trying to keep his cool in front of his kids but he's so happy with the result
because the kids are... uau shoes ...
Wow lol. Spent 25 mins watching shoes be repaired. I never knew it was like this at all, I usually just buy a new pair of shoes. This was incredible! Love the enthusiasm
You definitely sus
Dan is such an artist. Never thought I would long after a pair of shoes before haha
@@chrisdooley6468 Real quality always give a reasonable payback, and if they are upgradeable/restorable the better it is.
"Oh my goodness!"
It's hard to beat the feeling of worn shoes turning into gems.
My grandfather was a shoemaker. I can’t count how many hours I spent in his workshop just looking at him work. The smells was amazing.
I even was put to work doing the soles s on the wood clogs. Always a way to earn an ice cream.
My uncle took over the machines and tools. Who knows / I might get them some day
Good work.
In the seventies my parents could not afford new shoes so I spent many a evenings at the shoe maker getting repairs to my school shoes and yes, the smell of glue and leather is nice and nostalgic to this day…
Most of the smells are from toxic substances. The glue he is using (an all shoerepairers use) for example is abused by junkies.
Wow, who would know a sole could look so beautiful. Couldn’t stop watching.
I used to repair shoes as a parttime job in my childhood. The happy faces of the customers when they see the results is the real reward.
I was pretty good at it, I also worked with Johan Rendenbach soles and expensive shoes, but what you show here is the next level. Absolutely a great job!

Probably one of the most impressive looking restorations I've ever seen . Wow.
Mad respect, I thought this profession was extinct. Very respectable work imo and great to watch!
Beautifully handled. Fantastic finish. Bravo sir
It’s refreshing to see people take so much pride in their work.
And the patience as well?!
If any of my shoe bottoms looked this good I would never stand up but always have my feet up or legs crossed to show them off. It’s like a work of art on the bottom of your shoe. ❤️
Yeah Id definitely cross my legs to show these off! And I never do that!
My favorite part of this video was the entire thing. Watched every second of it and still want more. This fella is fantastic.
I used to love to watch the cobblers work when i was a kid. True artisans.
That customer is gonna pee his pants when he sees how great his freshly restored and improved shoes came out. I grew up with stories of my paternal grandfather who owned several shoe factories in the 40's and all the old world craftmanship that went with that. So nice to see those skills brought forward. Great video.
Sounds like you didn't watch till the end haha
@@estevanmartins5319 Yeah I missed the customer reaction. Nice to see.
well in Leon mexico , there are still some companies making total handmade shoes , we are making around a hundred million pairs each year , saludos desde mexico

The customer will shite his pants when he sees the bill🤫
I didn't realize how much artistry there was in repair...pretty amazing to watch and be aware of the true skill of a cobbler!
There's something really satisfying about watching true artisanry.
Creativity and craftsmanship…my faith in humanity is restored!
the original upper part is low key but its got a swaggy bottom now
I never thought I would watch something like this but it's fascinating to see a craftsman at work and all the different steps and processes involved.
Just amazing.
okay wow, this process is way more involved than i would have ever thought; with the brass tip, and the spray design of the soles. incredible

BRAVO!!!!
I was enthralled! I had no idea of all the steps involved in restoring a pair of shoes.

Cheers my man!
Жаль что в петербурге нету такого классного мастера.
After watching this, I can really appreciate what you and others in this type of business do!!!! Love it!!!
Thank you.
Lovely to see the customer's reaction. I adore Ferragamo and am hugely impressed by this repair.

Good work, very good work. Keeping a very old tradition alive. The workmanship speaks of selling yourself and your skill through paying attention to details 👌
Dude you are the man , wow you made them that much more sophisticated love the quality and attention to detail.. there is much love in the work you do. Thx 4 sharing
Probably the coolest things I've seen on TH-cam all year to be fair. Proper craftsman.
Beautiful work I find myself drawn to these older trades I'm a finish carpenter so some of the tooling is familiar to me but all the ins and outs of building a shoe or boot are endlessly fascinating to me

I didn't know as much about shoe repairs before watching this video, but what I liked the most was seeing a fellow tradesman doing his work with so much care to detail, passion and dedication whilst being fairly young. Respect for your work!
I agree. I have brought my dress shoes and Birks for repair and re sole before. I thought I had respect for his craft, but $20 US seems cheapskate for my re soles when I see his skill.
Wow, didn’t think the shoes could look as amazing as they did, stupid me for doubting Dan’s talent as a cobbler. Won’t doubt again!! Love the channel!!
i have never commented on a video in my life but this guy deserves a comment and a like. I came to learn how to mirror shine boots and now I'm down the rabbit hole of shoe repair XD Thank you for the content
I love how this dude is legit doing the best job ever and I never realized how rough you have to be to do this job.
Dan, last year I picked up the Santoni Italian penny loafer/black at Goodwill in immaculate condition for $8.00. Watching your videos I conditioned the leather including the soles then polished like 5 times. Use cedar shoe trees. I never would of know how to care for unbelievably high end shoes. Thank you…
This video is so wholesome and seeing the reaction of the dad and the kids is priceless. Beautiful art indeed.
Wow, first time visiting. Art is the only thing I can think of.
I can see the hard work and labor that goes into repairing a pair of Ferragamo's shoes and the cost incurred. Interesting video. Great job!
I must agree with other comments, sitting here bore then this video pops up and this lad is repairing shoes?? Say what?? I watched the whole thing and it was very interesting. Great little shop and great talent passed on to this young man. Very proud of you sir to keep this craft alive!! This is like watch repair, a dying art...gotta tell ya, those metal tips where so cool. You should do a video (not sure if you did) of the best vintage or leather shoes to buy on ebay. If I get me a pair used I know where to send them now😁👍💯🍻⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I agree. You sometimes drift onto these gems and you wonder why you had not watched them before. Watched a farrier video this morning. Fascinating.
Além de ser um homem lindo, é muito talentoso com seu trabalho. Sucesso para você. Abraços do Brasil
This is oddly fascinating and relaxing. Nice to see a real cobbler showing craftsmanship, rather than the franchises you see in town centres, that are only skilled at glueing a sole on.
this is a perfect example of " doesn't matter what you do as long as you love doing it and you will be successful at it". Kudos to you mate.
I love watching these types of videos. It makes me appreciate ownership of unique items that may be sustainable through repair. Amazing work!! 💕💕
