A friend of mine taught my chord inversions a while back. Such a game changer for controlling the sound of a song! The same notes came be played in two different ways and it can sound almost like a completely different song!
I've stopped formal piano lessons when graduating high school, now im 30 and trying to break out of playing root triads, so boring. This is the best video i have ever found to learn chord inversions, hands down!!! So fun and takes the mystery out of how to jump your hands around the piano with ease. Just follow your 3 and 5 and the rest is magic!
Yaay I'm really happy that you went straight into the lesson and stuck to the drill with as little side stories as possible in between. This really helps me focus on the task. I really appreciate it. This is by far my best lesson of yours. Thank you.
Yes, helpful. For another video more related to how these inversions in this progression would more likely be practically used/played, I suggest staying in the same register on the keyboard. C chord, move pinky whole step to A = Am. C chord, move top 2 fingers up one white key = F. Move entire hand up one white key from F = G. Or C chord, move bottom two fingers down one white key = G. (C chord, move thumb down one white key = Em.). These patterns hold in other keys for going from I to IV, V, vi. This video is great at showing the inversions, but still ends up with a lot of hand movement. A major reason for using inversions is to minimize the amount of hand movement between chord changes (plus a more polished playing sound).
david9847, minimising hand movement is the least important reason for using inversions. Inversions provide the opportunity for different sonic 'signatures', 'feels', and so on, and can provide variety, and therefore increase interest in a piece of music.
Lisa, this class format is great ! So easy to follow, learn and practice. I am so happy I took your New Piano Player class , thank you , can't wait for Easy Chords to start in June
Wow this is so helpful, I enjoyed it and learn it fast. I always see a friend of mine that do his chord like this and is always confusing, but thank God you teach me today.
thank you for this! this was a really great start for me to learn my inversions. What works for me more is memorizing the two different shapes and making that shape around the root. Curious why you dont teach it this way as it seems easier. Thank you for your explanation!
I have Fl Studio 21 and it has a piano roll and you can select the scale chord you want to play. The chords in the scale are highlghted. I'm learning the scales that way. Plus I add 808 and drums and that makes it more fun. I want to learn the basics from this channel so I can have better melodies. I also use different instruments like bells, the harp, a synthesizer, among others. I also think outside of the box which is fun. My two favorite scales are C#/D Flat minor, D#/E Flat minor, which are dark. I experiment with different keys outside of the chords and I found some interesting sounds. It's so much more fun playing chords when I use a different key outside of the chords I play. I want to learn how to play trap and rap and hip hop.
Wow Awesome Im getting a key board next week. Ill be back. IM a guitar instructor and want to expand my musical talent. I learned so much from just watching you!!!! God Bless Thanks
Hey I've been playing several years for praise and worship. I knew how to find inversion but this great lessons taught me to play them thanks and have a blessed day in Jesus
Here is my take on learning chords/voicings: Practicing with the Circle of 5ths/4ths or chromatically Pros: Systematic Learning: Helps you understand the relationships between chords and keys. Technical Proficiency: Builds finger strength and dexterity through repetition. Foundation: Provides a solid theoretical foundation. Cons: Monotony: Can become tedious and less motivating over time. Lack of Context: May not always show how chords function within a musical piece. Learning Chords via Songs Pros: Contextual Learning: Shows how chords are used in real music, making it easier to understand their function. Engagement: Playing songs you enjoy can make practice more fun and motivating resulting in a deeper connection to what is played. Musicality: Helps develop a sense of timing, rhythm, and musical expression. Cons: Complexity: Some songs might be too challenging for beginners. Inconsistency: May not cover all chords or progressions systematically. What are your thoughts @pianote?
Question for anyone… Ive considered breaking up with my piano instructor. She’s very classical based. I’m still learning the basics and I’m sure I’m learning good skills but I’m also getting bored. Her stuff is not my style at all. I feel bad leaving her. It is smart to stick it out for a while to get the fundamentals down? I’m also nervous I’ll find someone new and not like them either.
You should definitely wait until you have the fundamentals down, cause those will help you out in the long run. Once you get comfortable with the basics, you should then find someone who’ll teach you that fits your preferred style of play
I went through this also. Go find a teacher who will teach you what style you're interested in learning. I wasted so much time with my original classical teacher.o learned more in one year with another teacher who taught stuff like this than in 6 years with my original teacher.
Not sure if guitar fully applies but! I wasted a lot of time and technics because my classical teacher taught me differently Find something that fits you best
Idky who you are lady…but I like you, you make me wanna watch your channel. I like your energy, your content, and the way you look. Thanks for taking my breath away
One of my biggest questions about inversions is what do I do with my left hand since I play octaves with that...and you took a while to show what you did with that which was just stop at the root position...or is it ok to keep playing that?
Lisa, each time I watch your hands I see how close with your fingers to come to almost hitting two keys down at once, but you never do. I occasionally do, so what can you suggest how not to? I try mentally to keep my fingers aiming towards the middle of the keys.
Hello I really love your videos but please I have a request. As a beginner in piano, I watch videos on line and hear experts calling chord names like a b major flat 9, E diminished, and many others. I find myself lost because I only just understand triads I would love it if pianote does a tutorial cover series on chord progressions please

Could I request that you guys make a tutorial for ‘Forbidden Colours’ by Ryuichi Sakamoto. I can’t find a good tutorial video and it’s a favourite of mine. 🫡 @pianote
We have an even more detailed breakdown and *free downloadable diagrams* on our blog >> www.pianote.com/blog/piano-chord-inversions/
Thanks alot... I really love what you guys are doing... Truly.❣️
Good and easy to learn . I want to do the same but how can I get the title of the music in the video?

Yes! It's amazing how just a small change can make such a big difference!

Yes, this is exactly where the next stages/lessons lead to. Minimum movement between chord changes.

Wow, amazing! Thank you for breaking it down and demonstrating how easy chord inversions can be! God bless you!! 😊

Will different fingerings be presented in the “easy chords” series as well?

Great video but would be even better with quieter background music

As above so below, as within so without. - came to mind when I saw inversions 😅
Hi
You mean pressing the chord once and upside down once
🌹🧡🧡👼🏻😘
Why is it called Am and not an A?
A is A major which has 3#’s sharps.
Am mean A "minor". It's a minor chord because it has a C in it (and not a C-sharp, which would be an A major chord).
Please remove the other background music. It's fistractive. I love your chord teaching.
Why C note or C chord as if C is the only thing, Start some where else. Please give us C sharp next time.
I found the beginning of this lesson too confusing. Im sorry😢
The background music is annoying though
Will you marry me, Lisa?
She's spoken for!
