Richie is a national treasure at this point... people lament SRV's and Hendrix's passing... meanwhile, Richie sort of hovers around at this sublevel where no one who isn't directly aware of him through an old shredder guitarist like me, even knows his name.. and he can sing man, and play.. and compose, fuck... Its not like he's struggling but he just deserves so much more recognition for his craft... I love this guys music so much.. damn!
NO shit man. People "idolize" guys from the 60's who put out one or two good records and then rested on those laurels for the next 50 years. All while Richie churns out AMAZING shit and just keeps improving. The 50 for 50 is some of his best work yet.
@@benbub123 the diversity of tracks on 50 for 50 is incredible. Even the diversity within the individual tracks. There’s a lot of effort going into this.
i just watched this show for the first time yesterday with darius rucker and immediately thought the same thing...i vote to petition to make this happen. it would be incredible on so many levels...
I don't understand how this dude has basically slipped by nearly unnoticed (..at least by me)....what an amazing musician he is....WOW Since discovering him via Winery Dogs...I have done nothing but search thru his very large catalog of solo work and i must say that I completely agree with you...he IS indeed....a National Treasure!!!
This song brings me back so many great memories. I was at his show and honesty i didn't know if he was going to play it or not. But as soon as he left the stage for the encore, he passed right in front of me. I quickly said to him: "please, play Sarah Smile!". He came back to the stage and did it! It was amazing.
Thanks to you we have this treasure!!!! Hall is very good but not like this... he did write a brilliant song to give credit where it's due, G^d bless him...Richie's vocal yeah, soulful, but a little less notes on solo would be better like the beginning of the last solo, can hear him express his artfulness, bc he has the sensitivity - less can be more.
Richie is the total package.... he has it all ! Unique songwriting , lyricist, guitar playing from hell, incredible tone in those hands, a voice so passionate and soulful, the stage presence, and yes.... those arms of his .. he's got the guns!
Richie inspired me to pick up, practice, and play guitar again after 25 years. GREAT musician. On the level of Ronnie Dio, Page, Perry. He's THAT fuckin good!
Just amazing stuff. Brilliant performance. There is no other exponent of rock who is such a brilliant virtuoso of both the guitar and the vocal chords. No one has the right to be that damn good!
Damn,... I just played this on my tv (with a sounder) for the first time,... The sound is pretty damn good,...especially his vocals. Only wish the club wasn’t so dark for the video part of it.
With all due respect, 44 people have the myopic vision that a "cover" should be stylistically adherent to the original…like a note for note facsimile. Richie's interpretation of this song is flat out amazing. I've seen him perform this song many times live, but this is by far the best. Thanks for the upload.
Kotsen is tremendous. He's why I'm here, because I have no interest whatsoever in listening to 99% of Hall & Oates music... but the hits were hits because of how much the vast majority liked the song AS IT WAS RECORDED. Personally, I don't really care for the song, but I'm in the middle of an hour-long Kotzen auto-play and he's so good I don't fast-forward through any of the songs, like em or not. Having said that, people, by and large, prefer to hear the hits as they were recorded. The hits are highlights people wait for in the concert, and they want to hear it like they remember it... or the majority do.
He is the best guitar musician I have ever seen in years!!! There is no doubt that he is the best!! I am stunned about his guitar technique. Nothing better than Richie Kotzen.
So if Daryl, Jimi and Yngvie had a baby this might be what he would sound like. My God Richie is amazing and the no pick style on the tele for this kind of hard core rock, fucking original. He's one of a kind!
All that played on a Telecaster and NO PICK!!!!!! Incredible! hugely talented! And that voice! Those biceps!! I'm so jealous I want to hate him, but I cant. He's that good!!
Wow, command of the fretboard hand: god level. Many rock guitar players use a pick, few of them use the fingers for such a hard-rock sound, and then it's Ritchie, who gets the sound out of the guitar with the fretboard hand mainly...
Thinking about bringing a rock cover of Sarah smile to my band add to our set... this is the ticket. this slowed down groove is nice.. Has a great groove to begin with this pretty freaking cool.
That is Dylan Wilson ... He will be playing with Richie again at Richie's solo shows at the Baked Potato Nov 12th, 27th, and Dec 17th ... and the 3 shows in China in December. Great bass player !
I was at this show. Steve Lukather was in the club. I was standing kinda hanging out with them during the break. Ritchie asked Luke to sign his hand between his thumb and forefinger so he could have it tattooed permanently. I wonder if he has that tattoo.
Dang - Richie got soul. I knew of him from way back in the day, and knew he was a good singer due to his track on the Bill & Ted soundtrack, but wow. Got a new favorite singer here.
Satch's Jam Room Yep...drives to the gig, load-in / load-out himself. Incredibly down to earth and humble guy and an incredible musician as you can see here.
I think, IMO, It is his choice. keeping himself at a sub-level of fame (masses), he can still doing what he really wants with his music... and we all can still enjoying this supreme, sublime art. honor to whom honor deserves. Forza Richie!!!!!!!!
I was at this show - sat just off to Richie's left. My face still hasn't fully healed from being melted off.

This deserves an invite to Daryl's house 🏠.
No shit, wtf Daryl?
Yes! Tak, ale Richie to geniusz i Daryl może być zazdrosny...👍
This
Hell yeah..that’s what I was thinkin!

It’s 2020 and Richie Kotzen still rocks! What a monster he is!
Richie Kotzen needs to do this on Live From Daryl's House with Daryl Hall ! The two of them would be awesome together.
i just watched this show for the first time yesterday with darius rucker and immediately thought the same thing...i vote to petition to make this happen. it would be incredible on so many levels...
handsomerube Richie Kotzen would be perfect for livefromdarylshouse.com
Richie and Daryl together.... incredible on SO many levels is right!!
handsomerube spread the RK gospel !!
I think he needs to actually release this in a future album, IMO this version is way better than the original :D
Would definitely like to see him and Daryl perform this together ;)
Respect this man. He went from high speed noodler to a communicating emotional musician. Wish more took that route. Beautiful cover.
Favorite comment !!
Not on this (botched) song.
Sorry to disagree.

Bass and drums holding it down super sweet.
He always backs himself with the best.
This dude is great on the guitar and just as good singing . Makes you feel what he playing
2022 and there's not many days go by when this God of music doesn't feature more than once on my playlist.
This guy. What more can you ask for. Complete. Just amazing.
Give the drummer LOVE & Respect for an amazing GROOVE.
Richie inspired me to pick up, practice, and play guitar again after 25 years. GREAT musician. On the level of Ronnie Dio, Page, Perry. He's THAT fuckin good!
How could anybody not dig this? I play and sing.....I'd give ten years off my life to be that good!!!
Shouldn't be surprised at his R&B chops. This is not a simple chart, and pulling it off like he did without an army of Philly fiddles is exceptional.
I just adore this version, Richie

Woooooo!!!!! Play it Ritchie! For the first time in my 55 year old life I have nearly fallen in love with this song!
It is not allowed to push the "thumbs down" button on a Richie kotzen video
Haha.... and if I find out who...they will be banned :)

I know! His voice is so soulful! God, why didn't he say FUCK YOU BRETT YOU CANT SING! He's as good vocally on this as Darryl and Jimmy Wayne.
Richie is a Phenom!!! Super underrated phenom....thank you for posting!!
My favorite Sara Smile cover!
Thanks for putting up a nice-sounding and great looking amateur recording. Richie deserves all his live dates to be recorded at least this crisp.
This is what its all about ! Passion. That bassist is killin back there too, totally locked in. Posted to facebook, the world needs to see this !!!
This is exactly what I needed this morning. The world needs more blues in their lives. Great Effing Job!
yes indeed ... and Richie Kotzen brings it !!!
One of the beat performances I've ever seen!
One of the greatest if not the greatest of my generation, WOW
Absolutely fantabulous!!!
He just cant help it...he cant stop being amazing

He's a legend in the musician's world. I wish more people knew about him.
Pretty darn awesome!
