I stopped watching Journey when Steve Perry left the group. I saw no point in continuing if Steve Perry left the group. He is totally awesome. Greatest vocalist of all time. Followed since 1978, then onto his solo career. He is a truly awesome singer and songwriter. #steveperryfan4ever❤❤❤❤❤

Perry never completely stepped away from music, at least not for more than a year or so. He sang background vocals for many artists and helped with other studio work. He also worked with movie music and helped remaster some Journey stuff. He was working on solo material even before he met Kellie, so a comeback was in the works already. As far as the tragedies during his musical career go, 1) The death of his pre-Journey band's (Alien Project) bassist, 2) His break-up with long-time girlfriend, Sherrie; 3) His mother's death; 4) His hip issue; 5) His girlfriend's (Kellie) death.
