    My Grandfather did this in the Ottawa National Forest in Upper Michigan in the 1930s-1950s. He sat up in the tower alone for weeks at a time back when a shortwave radio was considered high tech equipment!

    I need this as a job! I get left the hell alone and don’t need to be face to face with anyone .

      Maybe a mortician with a powdered white makeup and tattooed eyeballs? Short of that theres always Supermax with isolation?

      @annalee5751 Uh, morticians need to be well socialized for interacting with Funeral Directors, grieving families and/or police. Despite how media tends to demonize them into being anti-social necrophiles, most tend to need basic compassion, consideration, empathy, and significant knowledge of both chemistry and human biology.
      Your lack of compassion or understanding of multiple perspectives would exclude you from becoming one.
      Alone in the woods, watching for fires is fully acceptable outside of your stigmas.

    Well made! Really like seeing this CBC! It makes it look like it’s a fun gig but I know it’s a dangerous job and one that saves our forests and ourselves from fires! His music is awesome too! 🙌

    Give me good internet and a toilet, I could easily do this for a year lol. Oh damn, I thought I was going to have to hike everything up there, even better!!!!! I bet most lookout locations have little to zero internet :'(

    I heard there isn’t much opportunity for this job anymore is that true or is it still easy to find a job

    • @mountainmansion
      @mountainmansion 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There are still over 100 staffed fire towers in Canada. Only about 5-20 openings a year though. It took me 5 years of applying to get hired but a lot of lookouts I know got lucky on their first attempt.

    would they let a german immigrant do the job?
    I've heard that it's not so easy for them to find people for it anymore.
