    There is still a homestead from my ancestors up there.
    It's supposed to be maintained by the family, but I haven't been there for about a decade so YMMV.

    Matt, Thank you for the look at this old friend. I lived in Silverton while growing up. I hiked the trail several times. It is a very special place.

      Thanks Nancy. I think this trail is a great representation of Oregon to outsiders especially. From the outside everyone pictures Oregon as a wet forest with rivers and waterfalls. 2/3 of the state is desert but this is what we are known for.

    I live in Bandon and not sure will be able to do this and other hikes you bring into our homes. My 100 yr old mother enjoys them so much too. Can’t thank you enough young man and you are well on your way to a promising photography career! This should be on PBS 😃

    I've been around that falls in grade school. The same school my dad went to the first yr it opened. And the same school passed on the way up to the park.

    The little birds you filmed at the last fall at the bottom of the falls, is the American Dipper or Water Ouzel. We watched an Oregon Field Guide years ago all about that incredible little bird. They build nests in alcoves under the water falls in streams.

    Great video, Matt. I’ve never done the full loop due to its length so it’s nice to see what all the falls look like. I also love your use of maps to tell the story. It’s extremely helpful. Thank you for sharing!

      Thanks Vega. Of course I tried a few different map options. I tried a mini corner map through the whole video, but it was too small to provide much value.

      Thank you! All seasons are nice in some way. Spring has the biggest flows. But Fall is nice for the colors. I bet theres some good fall colors still this week.

    Excellent video showing the falls at this wonderful state park. I first did this tour in 1972 - so been going to this park now for a half century. I live in Salem and try to return often. It never disappoints. Thank you fir your work on this.

      @@MattCookOregon The trail has been measurably improved as have guard rails. But, OPRD has done a pretty good job of managing the higher volume of traffic.

      This trail is an iconic one for Oregon. Not sure about the dogs, I say either enforce it or let the dogs in.

    While there is a dog park at the entrance, ironically dogs are not allowed on the trails.

    Have you been to Shellburg Falls? Similar to Silver Creek and not far to the south. Same lava event formed both sets of falls.

      Sadly the area was mostly destroyed in a fire a couple years back. You might me able to get in there on a hike from Silver Creek Falls
