For all intents and purposes, I don't blame Sarah Wilhite. That set was a trap and she tried to make something out of nothing, her foot was under the net and Nikki Taylor's left foot landed on hers. It was in the heat of the moment which, unfortunately, saw Nikki Taylor's night come to a quick and heart breaking end. The injury bug has hit this team hard, and even at the end of it all just couldn't escape it. We Hawaii fans will be left wondering just how good this years team could've been w/out the injuries, but I guess now we'll never know. BTW Thank you for uploading this.

Get well soon Nikki!!!! It sucks that it ended this way, Nikki's senior year. It was her last chance to get her team far in the tourney and make a final statement to end her career at Hawaii :( It makes me wonder just how much more exciting this game would have been "IF" Nikki was not injured. I'm sure Hawaii would have given our Gopher ladies a run for their money. I have to give props to our Gopher ladies for playing a well-balanced (offense & defense) and fast-tempo match. Keep it up Gophers & let's kick some ass & get that NCAA title already! ;)
That was a very unfortunate bad break for a team to lose, not only their "go to" person but their field leader as well, in one blow. I believe the NCAA should consider changing the rule regarding players encroaching on or over the center line when approaching the net. As it stands, the rule allows a player's foot to land on or to cross over the centerline as long as it does not contact or cause injury to an opponent. The rule should be changed to treat the centerline as an extension of the net. Touching or crossing it would be a net violation. The rules already penalize servers and back row attackers who touch or cross the end line and ten foot line respectively. Similar rules should apply to the centerline to prevent injuries such as what Nikki experienced. Statistics show that opposite blockers have a higher incidence of this injury as they go up against highly utilized left side attackers. Also, the use of ankle braces should be mandatory, especially for front row players. Rules have been implemented in football to minimize injuries so why not volleyball.
The way the commentators talked during the injury was ridiculous; practically blaming Wilhite even tho both players landed on the line (which is legal) and then laughing while joking that her dad was “texting the nearest ankle surgeon”.... shame on you
Hawaii's season is over when they lost this match. Now if you're talking about Nikki Taylor possibly playing Beach volleyball this spring, then it will depend on what's the extent of her injury she sustained in the Minnesota game.

I've been a Na Wahine observer since the Tita Ahuna days, and I've never seen a player like Nikki who kept her teammates relaxed and focused. When she got taken out, auwe!, so did our chances. Saying pule for you, Nikki!
I think Wahine wins on their 1987 title shot over Stanford is they played more on defense, with Suzanne Eagy plays too smart in blocking the shots and more tap shots give them the victory.
I just don't think that's even worthy for them to celebrate just because their opponent suffered an injury. I mean, injuries happen in few occasions. I mean, during the UC Riverside match, Riverside lost one of their seniors with a knee injury again Cal. I'm sure that with her, Riverside could have adjusted their Big West wins with her around.
Hawk Kalitz yup, injuries can either make or break a team. I do believe they still had a chance if they entered the match already without nikki tho. They just wasn't prepared for this at all
I'm very disappointed in Kendra Kelsh. What ever the spelling of her name is. She seemed to happy with Nikki going down. I was a Kelsh fan until I seen her reaction to what happened. Selfish! Selfish! Selfish!

Nikki was the #1 hitter for the team, and it was stripped because Wilhite doesn’t know the basic rule of staying on YOUR SIDE of the net. Yes the set was too tight, but that’s no excuse to go for it and possibly injure an opponent. Lose the point. Simple as that.
