This has to be one of the most honest videos I have ever seen. People really should to take you advice to heart!
This was the most honest video I've seen a TH-camr do about partying. Thanks Caitlin!
thank you love! didn't wanna scare anyone, but it's good to be cautious in new surroundings!
so everyone including the boys wore skirts and dresses? sorry im cancer
I feel like when I'm in college the closest thing I'll throw to a party is a Smash Bros. or Mario Kart tournament in my dorm.
The college I'm going to actually has a school club for Smash Bros. It's great.
I'd definitely come to that lol
burritoscanfly1 Are you going to Georgia Southern by any chance? We have that too lol.
AllGameGo Only if the attendants are chill and won't make fun of other people if they aren't xX_mlgpro_Xx enough. I used to play smash a lot, but the toxicity of the community, especially for Melee, is what made me shy away from them.
Those aggressive hangouts we call "kickbacks" lol
Lmao
+Christa Tatum same last name lol
True lmao
Ayeeee Austin whats good my nigga!
Great advice! Some stuff I would add:
1. She's right that college houses are usually gross, but the bathrooms are the most horrendous places you will ever encounter! Do not go there alone, always be with one of your friends!
2. If a guy asks if they can "show you around the house", DON'T DO IT. That is code for "let me get you to follow me into the empty room in the house so I can get in your pants." Unless you do want to hook up with him, don't follow this guy anywhere by yourself.
3. Have a buddy system! This applies for larger groups mostly, but if you come to a party with 6 or more people, you all need to be accountable for each other! I know from experience that losing a friend at a party is scary and dangerous, we didn't know where she was and she was drunk as a skunk. We were scared she was going to get hurt or lost. But if you each buddy up and agree to look after one another, this can be avoided!
That's all I have for now, but really college is so much fun and you will love it!
Ladies, take her advice on drinking VERY SERIOUSLY. Because even though this stuff seems outrageous and unlikely to happen to you, it's so common. At almost every party I've been to, someone throws up or something happens. Be safe!
Obsessed with how straight forward you are about drinking in college. It definitely happens and people shouldn't pretend it doesn't. it's better to know than not know. :)
This video has been sooo requested & I was nervous about filming/posting it because I wasn't gonna beat around the bush about drinking! It's college. It happens. But what a lot of people may not realize is what to be aware of & the risks! So happy with all your guys support; it makes me so happy!
***** No one is pretending that drinking doesn't happen. I've never met someone who denies that.
Athena Grisette I didn't mean it literally, I meant people on YT who are in college and daily vlog. I've just noticed that talking about alcohol or underage drinking (which does happen in college) is taboo and TH-camrs just don't mention it. The tips were helpful and I wish I had watched a video like this before I started as a freshman in college. My comment was just in appreciation that Caitlin had the guts to pose the video about a taboo topic, that's all.
I worked at a college EMS squad and we picked up a lot of people who were left alone after parties and their friends felt like it was a burden. Some of these people suffered from hypothermia and almost died, many were raped b/c they blacked out and were left alone, a few died from vomiting and choking on it in their sleep. Knowing your limits and not leaving your drink unattended are a huge part of how horrible things can result from partying. Just be safe.
"Smelled of booze and bad decisions." That's the best way to describe it xD
I really, really liked how you mentioned not just leaving a girl there when she beyond her limits. It is very positive, and I think girls really need to start looking out for each other more. I would much rather be the girl who helped someone else out, than the girl in the corner judging her. Yeah it might be annoying, but even if the girl did go to far it does not mean she deserves to be taken advantage of!
Another tip: Be sure to check in with friends every hour or so if you separate at a party. Just send a quick text like "Hey where you" to be sure they haven't been snatched up or anything. It will also let them know where you were last incase you get into trouble of your own.
Ash What kind of trouble ?
I still refuse to go to parties because I'm not about that life(I don't drink, mess with drugs, or engage in sexual activities)
Masrex I understand and respect your choice . But to me it's not only a matter of alcohol , sex or drugs.. Don't you like to dance , meet new people and spend time with your friends ? Or do drunk people just piss you off that much for you not to go ? x)
Anneissinging the second one haha
I feel you man. I don't get why people have to turn themselves back to their primal instincts during parties. They're like animals and forgot how to be human. I go to casual parties like a Christmas, birthday party with family board games, party video games like smash bros, watch movies.
do you want a cookie
***** fuck no, i actually care about what i eat
just another tip: If the lights go completely out put your hand over the cup so no one can sneak anything in!
omg i'm so glad you weren't all like "don't drink! don't go to parties! you don't have to do it because everyone else is!" you were really honest and its great to hear that from someone :) i'm starting college this upcoming fall and this was really helpful!
you're the only one who talks about parties. it's as if no one else on youtube has been to a party, but that's probably untrue. thanks!
I have a friend who has died from choking on their own vomit also, It's extremely common and extremely scary. If one of your friends is looking sick or already sick, get them water or gatorade, get them to a good safe bathroom and don't leave until they fall asleep, usually after they fall asleep they will be good to go!
Could you do like a "what to expect your first week of college?" Like what is it like after you get dropped off and left at college?
I'm a senior at a university and this advice is very good. EVERYONE LISTEN TO HER!! As far as the outfit thing I say wear whatever you feel comfortable in. Unless it's a theme party then no one really should care what you're wearing. Also for anyone wondering, you can definitely have fun sober or just slightly buzzed at parties. It's fun to watch the drunk people act silly & it's fun to just socialize or sometimes I bartend at people's parties sober and that's really fun for me!
Can you PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make a video on sorority life/recruitment?!
I'm graduating in the spring and I have yet to go to a frat party. Freshman year, I literally lived on frat row; went with a few friends who got me to walk in frat row. I was there for 5 minutes and went back to my room, lol.
&&& yes on the alcohol advise. Just be careful!
Also, don't feel pressured to go party every weekend. Nothing wrong with watch a movie with friends or playing cards on a Friday. More comfortable and safer that way.
I'm in middle school but I look a lot older, I was told I was going to a high school party and it turned out to be a college party. Best day of my life
I've totally partied with you at a Kappa Sig party this semester haha girl you're fun!
Thank you for being so honest and forthcoming! So refreshing to actually get good advice and not just a "don't do this bit do this" type of thing that gurus tend to do
Honestly, I hate most college parties, loud music, yelling, flashing lights, not my thing, I get overstimulated pretty easy and it gives me a migraine. The solution to this of course is get a close group of friends and throw your own party. Mine usually consist of a few drinks, video games/movie, food, and good conversation :) Oh and a tip to those who want to drink - before you go to sleep drink a HUGE glass of water, alcohol is a diuretic and the last thing you want is to get dehydrated.
Incoming Freshmen should all know this! This is definitely on point for college parties! Great video, girl and hope to see more.
i know a lot of youtubers especially college youtubers party and drink a lot yet they totally disregard it. so i appreciate your honesty in this video it was so informational thanks caitlin!!!
Another tip that's good is in your phone label a contact that can come and get you, so if someone does come to help you out they call a best friend in the area or sorority sister or what not. In a few cases people end up calling a friend from high school 5 hours away or whatever. So just put like "call for help" or something next to the name that way they dont have to worry about leaving you alone all night. :)
hey so seriously guys, you can get drugged at parties and even by people that you know because i was roofied at somebody's house that i knew fairly well/it was a small party but yeah, you will feel really weird and it won't be fun so be careful for real
Hope you are okay!
I am, thank you for being concerned though(: fortunately, nothing really bad happened
no problem! im in my 2nd semester of college. good thing you were not hurt badly =)
Don't ever be afraid to take someone to the hospital if you can't keep someone conscious or if they can't stop throwing up, a MIP is way better then having someone die. I know at Michigan State if you take someone to the hospital you wont get an MIP because they want kids to feel like if someone is in danger its okay to take them there with out a consequence.
Also you don't want to be the girl doing the walk of shame in the morning so don't sleep with a guy you just met. That can be just as dangerous because of STDS and they could video it without you knowing, you just never know how guys really are even if they seem nice like you said.
It's called Medical Amnesty and I'm not sure how it is in other states, but you are right about Michigan for sure! If you call an ambulance, you will not get an MIP/they will not get an MIP
Yeah thats what its called! I just know that in the past couple years the governor signed a bill making it for anyone in the state of Michigan now. So at any college in Michigan if someone you know is in trouble you can get them the help they need, without having to worry about legal consequences
Please do a video talking about sorority recruitment and how being in a sorority has impacted your life as a college student!
more college videos i love them! Maybe one about the first week of college like moving in and going to classes for the first time?
You seem so responsible, I'm starting college this year and this is the first video that i've found where a girl admits the truth about college partying! thank you for being real and giving good advice :)
I'm going to college next year, and I'm so excited! this was literally so helpful because I'm not a huge partner because high school parties are so lame, but I expect to go out next year and didn't know what to anticipate! you should also do a whole college clothing video, like what to wear and when. thanks for being my "big sister" on this Caitlin :)
What to wear at college in general! I don't want to be too dressed up or dressed down in certain situations.
In my experience for big parties (i'm talking frat) you're always safe with a body con skirt/ dressy skirt, blouse (cute but won't care if you get beer spilled on it), and shoes you won't care about because guaranteed a) the floor will be gross and b) someone will spill their drink on your shoes.
for class you can literally wear anything. I've seen PJs and I've seen heels. It usually tends more towards the casual side though.
Hope this helped!
aggressive hang out hahahahahahah well played well played.
I mean, did we not? (;
Or just don't go to parties... and you will always be safe.
and you will miss the best times ever
I disagree
+Jessica Lam me 2 jesica .avoid parties or hangouts if anything
jesus loves you
Why am I watching this, I'm not even human
Lol
tf...?
my life is surrounded by cardboard
***** HAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH AM I MISSING SOMETHING
haha?
Great advice Caitlin, I'm from England but I'm coming to America for study abroad at university, so I think I'll be going to some parties so this was very helpful. Thank you! I make videos too, I'd love if you could check them out :) xxx
could you do a video on your sorority recruitment experience? Thanks so much for doing this video Caitlin! I'm a freshman at a mid sized party school so I can definitely attest that these things happen and you need to be prepared!
Booze and bad decisions. I just died.
"Booze & bad decisions" hahaha I loved this video! Thank you for being honest and just being you ♡
drinking games are honestly the best way to meet new people if it's like the first party you've been to haha
This video is great. I would love more on College Advice, as I'm a college freshman and still trying to figure everything out.
I'm going to college next year and I don't like to drink so I'm afraid of parties. Is it really awkward and embarrassing to not drink at all?
I'm currently a junior in college, and I don't go out a ton, but I've found that it's usually only as awkward as you make it. If you're around a lot of close friends, they're usually respectful of your decision (as they should be if they're your true friends, just be sure to respect their decisions as well so long as they're safe). When I do go to parties I like to make sure that I have my own non-alcoholic beverage just so I don't feel naked without something in my hand haha.
You really don't need to party if you don't want to. I go to a "party school" but it's not like everyone goes out all the time unless you're 21 and can go to the local bars. If you want to party, just make friends with girls or guys that do party and it'll be fun.
Not at all! Like Danielle said, I like to have a pop or juice in my hand so I have something to sip on! No one will really question it & should respect it! (:
All you have to do it put water or just juice in a cup and walk around and drink it (DO NOT put it down) and no one will question
I'd bring a Clean (that hasn't been Druged on) Sprite, and take a little sip of it
Can you please please please do a separate video for outfit ideas and tips, as well as makeup and hair!! Please I'm going to my first college party and have no idea what to wear!! Please please and thank you:))
Your college series is so great! I'm a junior in high school and I love watching them :)
Yes u seem like the safest person to go to a party with but not a judge mental one. Loved this video!
This was such a good and honest video. Reality is that college kids drink and like to party so it's really helpful to have someone guide them through it and make them aware of what it's like and how to be careful :)
I love how confident you are. I know this is random but I have bags under my eyes all the time because of a thyroid problem. It's complicated... I love how you maintain such confidence even with bags under your eyes. You look beautiful and I hope I can have as much confidence as you. :)
I'm probably going to be that one guy drinking Koolaid instead of drinking hahaha
+Beyond Gaming 117 like bring your own drink like mountain dew and pretending its alcohol.
AR GamingRiver lol drink from a sippy cup
I know a lot of comments on here are something along the lines of "I don't party in high school and I'm scared about college" and I think people should also know that you don't have to party if you don't want to and there are plenty of other things to do in college besides go out if that's something that does make you uncomfortable. You gave great and honest advice about staying safe, Caitlin!
The only thing I'm worried about when it comes to drinking is puking. I have an extreme phobia of it and really don't want it to happen.
She's so pale that the light reflects off her...
You are right she does have beautiful fair porcelain skin :)
It's called highlighter...
Thank you for being real in this video. I feel like a lot of gurus would simply say don't drink at all! Which isn't realistic for a lot of people. Good advice:)
Thank you so much for this. My roommate likes to party occasionally and I don't. I'm a freshman this year, but if she goes, I'm going just to look out for her. Your tips really help my role of being the sober one for the night.
I'm going to college next year so I love these college advice videos. I'm going to college in St. Paul and have a bunch of friends going to Nebraska!
watching videos about drinking, boys relationships is making me even more nervous..... i was researching for finance tips LOL why am i here? haha thanks it was eyeopening!
yay this was such a fun video to watch! please do more!
you should make more of these more often! :)
I am very happy to hear that you are a down to earth person and not having the same speech as one of those shallow girls that thinks that life is only about drinking and partying, or the only way to have fun!
Good to see that people with a brain still exist even in our generation.
"I feel GREAAAAAAT!" 😂😂😂 that was amazing
First week of my freshman year of college I was roofied. It does happen!
Thankfullly, I was aware of it and ran straight to my friends.
OMG, Thankyou so much. Now I'm set for the future and I'm defiantly going to take your advice.
Thanks for this video! I'm starting college next year and this answered some of my questions!
Thank you Caitlin, this is a really awesome video. Especially that alcohol drink part! ♥
I would mention all of the safety procedures for when people get alcohol poisoning and mention stuff like how a cold shower or eating something will not help you get over a hangover, only time will.
Loooovvveeee these videos. I'm a senior in high school and haven't partied much but have a ton of friend who do. I'm going to a university next year so thisis great :)
This is such a great video! There are not enough videos like this out there for young people! Some great advice :)
thank you bethany! (:
im going to college next yr so this video was very helpful! thank you!
I spent 4 years in the military and now I'm going to college in spring. I reaaally hope those parties won't be a letdown...
Thanks for your service. I'm going to the Army after college. Gonna have some fun before risking my life!:)
UpToYouOnly I appreciate the respect you're expressing, but why do you want to joinh the army after college? To become an officer? Or just because you want the experience?
Bucephalus 1 Both
Great advice Caitlin! Thank you for being so honest!
Why am I watching this? I'm a 15 year old high school sophomore and for some reason this video combined with these comments has me very nervous and my heart beating at a unhealthily rapid rate. I am subscribing.
Definitely should talk about college boys/frat boys!
I completely get what you mean with aggressive hangouts 😂😂 my class was so divided and we had the really popular preppy SGA kids who were binge drinkers and hung out with kids from other schools, and then the southern kids which was the category i fell into. And we were all "popular" and "partied" every weekend except it really wasn't partying because it would just be the same 50 kids at someones house and we'd all have way more fun sitting around a bon fire drinking beer and getting stoned
I don't go out in college parties like crazy (because I live in a big city far from the parties) but people are sometimes so increbly unsafe. I helped once a girl left alone in a town she doesn't know because she fell asleep and her "friends" left her. I don't get how people can leave others like that.
I was once alone to go back to a friend's place in a town I didn't know and It was so scary.
Love the advice videos!! Ilysm
I would love for you to do a video on how to save money and scholarship stuff, that would be amazing!!
This is gonna sound like completely random…but what's your wall color, if you know? lol, i'm painting my room soon and that color looks really nice!
Love your vids btw, I'm going into senior year and I'm so excited lol all I do is watch youtube videos about everything that has anything to do with college. :)
so interesting that girls wear dresses when they go out at your school, i go to umd and the original outfit you described would be totally normal here, haha. i RARELY see girls dressing up at all to go out
My tip is always have a sober driver! Keep a close eye on your sober driver I have been places when the sober driver gives in to peer pressure and gets drunk...then you are stuck! Never ever get in a car with a drunk driver....drunk people like to say they are fine to drive....THEY ARE NOT!
This was really helpful, I love it!
can you do a tips and how to survive rush? Im really nervous for it this fall and it'd be great to know what i should expect each day and what im expected to wear and really everything about rush.
I've done a video on what to wear during recruitment, but I will be doing a more in depth what to expect video & everything very soon :)
8:04 ... R.I.P. Stumpy Joe
Such an honest video!
You are so kind. Bless you.
whats rush in this context?
sorority rush maybe?
This was great! You give amazing advice!
Lol this scared me. I'm going to college in the fall and I've never been into drinking or partying and I'm not going to school with a friend. I obviously want to make friends but parties seem like trouble lol.......
I didn't mean to scare anyone, haha! These are just all the scenarios that could possibly happen, and are important to be aware of ahead of time! Many times, none of these happen & all is well! Just being cautious is all :)
Do u have to get invited to Theese parties??
Thank You
Oh I also have another piece of advice if you agree
I'd bring a Sprite or 2, incase I don't know what is going to be at that Party
I could not agree more with video! Please party safe, girls! You never know what could happen. Stay close to friends and bring your own drinks!!! :)
Hey Caitlin, my two best friends at college have started to party a little more than usual, but I've never gone with them. I'm starting to feel left out because I've never had a chance to go out with them, but I feel like they don't even want me there because I "judge" them for drinking. I do eventually want to go to a college party though! Any advice?
Next time they invite you go with them. Then tell them you won't judge them and they shouldn't worry, you just don't wanna drink. And stick to your word. If you are gonna judge them don't go to a party.
Go and don't judge? Lol
Well i'd be self conscious of you going if you were going to judge me for drinking too... Everyone is an adult; if they choose to drink thats their choice and if you dont want to that is yours. Ask to come along and tell them you wont judge them and it should be fine. You can have just as much fun partying sober as drunk(: (probably even more so)
If the party atmosphere makes you feel uncomfortable, then don't no matter how your friends make you feel. If you decide to try it out just assure them you're there for the dancing and a good time. You can watch over them and make sure they are ok if they are drinking. I totally understand your stance.
College advice on sororities and rushing and fraternities and guys in fraternities and just everything Greek system
Quick tip. If you don't open the drink yourself or pumped it from the keg, yourself, don't drink it. BRUH
You are brilliant. So helpful.
im a fresher so thanks for the advice!
Such a great video! Love you Caitlin
Can you explain exactly what a roofie is? I have a pretty good idea what it is but i'm not entirely sure. Thank you! You're amazing by the way!
hey you gave great tips! and from now on i will defenetly help someone if i see they are nit alright ;)
this is a amzing video. I am older and I tell all the girls these things
