Rescuing a flying-fox in a stairwell: this is Bib with her baby, Bub

- Bib is an adult female Grey-Headed Flying-Fox with a baby on her, whose story was weird. The school reported that they found her on a Monday and put her outside in a tree, but she flew back inside and was there on the Tuesday. The window where she supposedly got in wasn't a window she could have flown through and there was no reason for her to return, no flowering trees nearby and no reason she would randomly fly into the same spot twice, so her accident scenario is a puzzle.
Bib's baby, 8 day old Bub was uninjured, but Bib had hit her head quite badly and was very concussed. In care, I separated little Bub off her mum because she was peeing on her mum, and mum wasn't all that happy about it. I put them separately in the same incubator with Bub wrapped on a clean roll, but when I came back, they had reunited and Bub was on her mum. I just cleaned them both up and separated them again, knowing that baby would probably return to mum sometime.
Bib and Bub were transferred to the Princess for head injury care, but Bib died on the first night. Bub returned to my care for a few days stabilisation, then she went to a carer and is now named Meg (!).
RIP Bib, but I'm glad your baby is OK and being raised so she can be released back into the wild where she's supposed to be.

At least she was fed, hydrated, cleaned and kept warm. The school looked all concrete and steel not a nice place for bats to hit their heads. That baby looked so tiny and took to the bottle right away, I’m happy someone survived. Thank you

Oh Bib RIP. Seeing her alert & eating, she seemed so normal. Poor mama. Glad to see her baby is okay. Bub, now Meg.....will be flying high with a colony of her own.

I am again shocked how many Batties die after they hit a window. I just learned the Batties can reach between 13 to 20 mph when flying. No wonder its so deadly when they crash at that speed with their little heads first.
But I am happy for every baby rescued and after the lovely care, she surely knew that her precious Bub/Meg is in good hands.
So sorry for Bib's passing...at least she was in good hands, warm, fed, and her baby coldn't find another better mum as you! Thank you for your dedication to all these precious little creatures, and stay safe!!

I have been binge watching your videos for the last 3 days & I have to say that my lack of knowledge/interest has definitely changed! They are such sweet adorable little things! I love watching how you interact with them and treat them with love & respect. It’s nice to see there are still good animal loving people in this messed up world.
I love how the youngest babies sometimes have their ear tips curled backwards.
That's too bad about the mother. I was worried that would be the result when you first picked her up, she just seemed much too calm. I'm very glad that her baby will be okay though.

Sweet and tolerant girl mama was. She looked promising seeing her eat and more alert. She died in loving care with meds for her pain. Glad baby is doing good.
She was eating so good that I was hopeful for recovery for sweet Bib. Meg, you do an awesome job of taking care of these precious creatures. Hope little Meg does as well in life as her namesake.
What in the world happened to poor Mama Bib? Was it shock? She looked like she was doing well after her accident.
I was really hoping for a double happy ending to this saga. Mama Bib got some food, warmth and love before going home.

I rescued and cared for Bib and baby Bub for the first night; the Princess did the interim care until Bib didn't make it. Baby Bub came back to me so I could find a carer; I think Bub went to Auntie Jack and was renamed Meg in gratitude (Auntie Jack hadn't had any babies in care for a year or 2, being somewhat out in the country with her local bat colony not being in residence).
They are so endearing animals. RIP beautiful, your baby will be well cared for and will fly back to his owns.

I bandage them all preemptively now. It's easier.

Bib , You were very brave battie mom! May your legacy be carried on through the beautiful little baby Bub! You fought hard and was very gentle to your caring mom while you were in care. rest in peace now with all the other batties, in bat heaven!

Bub is in care with another carer. There are vids of her - she was called Piaf for a few days while she was with me, but she ended up with another carer who called her Meg.
Search for Megabattie/Piaf in the YT search bar and you might find it. It was about 2 weeks ago. I don't think there was a video specifically on her, but she made cameo appearances in some of the other vids.

I had hopes for Ms Bib with her enthusiastic grabbing of the fruit you offered her. That girl was *hungry* and I thought maybe her lack of milk was the result of lack of food. I'm guessing some babies can/do suck a healthy mum dry. From what I could see, Bib looked reasonably healthy except for bashing her head. Btw, is the Princess shown on your Bat Carers map? Thank you for all you do, Meg. I truly admire your work - you are an exemplary healer, even though many of those you help are beyond recovery. With love and respect from the heart. ❤ Susan 🐻
The Princess is in the same location as Megabattie - she lives close to me.
That's so strange how she came back to the same place. Like mother's intuition that someone will come to care for her baby. She hung on to be sure. Heartbreaking, I'll say it again. Thank God for you guys!
I don't believe she came back to the same place twice I think there were bats. but also I think some of the kids may be involved - it's too weird a thing with too little access.

Bib received tender hospice care and Bub had loving nurture and preschool prep. Every rescue is different but all are the best that can be.💕

Mom was so calm and let you handle her poor thing I’m so happy she had a nice person feeding her all the fruit she could get into her mouth... I know I asked before but stay with me... do you think she knew something was wrong and she remembered that people helped her before so that’s why she went to the people to get help..... I know I know silly question now that I read it I keep putting human feelings on animals but I’m still gonna ask.... I’ve been taught that a stupid question is the one never asked so I’m asking..?🧐
I don't think she's been in care before. This is a fairly normal behaviour for bats - most are quite calm in care and accepting.
I honestly believe animals can often sense when someone means them no harm. Sometimes they are just too tired or hurt to fight back, and it's hard to be mad about someone kind feeding you and keeping you safe. Also, some people just seem to have that magic that animals respond well to. Meg has tons of it... as well as the experience to not do the subtle things that will get her bit, lol. :)

Wow! Bib has such a totally glazed, really not here right now look when we 1st see her. The headache must be unreal later! Actually, later, even eating, she didn’t look like she was there. Much later, whew, she was present, but no milk. Hard when the mom isn’t able to help.
