They have to ask those questions lol. They ask where you work because they want to make sure you have a reason to come back (especially Americans and Mexicans because we can technically stay in Canada for 6 months with no approval- yay team North America 🥴) but if you don’t have any reason to come back to the US then they could deny you entry because it may seem like you’re trying to start illegally. Canada has one of the nicest immigration policies & encourage immigration the proper way unlike America because we’re stupid and don’t realize immigrants are half of our workforce...
Next time don’t say “never been before” it sounds too relaxed like you might like it and stay 😂 just say “I’m going to.... it ends on ..... and I’ll be returning .....”

I'm in my 50s, a short, white, Canadian. I get stopped on both sides almost every time. Before 9/11 it was easier. Used to just go across for gas, lunch when I was visiting family 20 min from Emerson.

The Border Patrol was just doing their job. I actually watched a video, before my first trip to Canada. You can not clown with those guy's. It's serious business. Glad you had a great time!!

The customs officer didn't sound rude, he was just doing his job. I live right at the border and been going back and forth over it all my life... the kind of questions they asked when you pulled up are not that strange, I've gotten questioned plenty as well. And you don't have to worry about "staying alive" coming through Candian Customs. Please don't characterize Canadian Customs with American policing, it's not the same thing at all. I've lived here all my life and have never once heard any report of anyone dieing or being beaten up at the border crossing here, be they American or Canadian, or any other nationality.

If you ever do a trip north again Hit up Montreal too And ya the Border on bothside is crazy I have a few stories (i had a real working comedian in my car the one day..I knew it was all down hill when - He ashed his cigerette out the window She said while in the USA i advise you not to litter..With raised eye brows he said Ok i'll try not too thanks for the tip..Border guard : Oh you think your funny? Let me ask you what do you do for a living? (knowing she was going to say Well im a guard and Dont have to let you in) He says I'm a comic..That was it 1 hour of crap till he shown the supervisor the flyer with his name on the list of comics at Yuk yuk's Another time with me .. This guard asked me no less than 5 times what my background was I knew what he was trying to do so i would tell him Canadian ..No where are your parents from..Canada Where were they born..Canada And your grandparents ..Canadian... Born?... Canada Ok sir im going to ask you in another way so maybe you will understand this...Anyone in your family tree line who came to Canada to become a Canadian citizen?
