      Cool thing with stores like Spar is that they source meat from local farmers within a certain km radius to the store, so the steak / beef mince in Richards Bay would be from a farmer in KZN while a Spar in Bloem would source from a Free State farmer

    In relation to wages, food is expensive in South Africa.

  • @robbylebotha
    @robbylebotha 14 วันที่ผ่านมา +59

    Also keep in mind the price you see on the item in store is the full price including tax. There is no tax added at the pay point anywhere in South Africa and Africa in general.
    And it’s almost all organic no GMO, the only natural foods they sometimes maybe mess with is chicken, some suppliers MAY inject brine into the chicken to make it look fuller. But I think they stopped this a decade ago.
    Pro tip: if you want the best prices go to a store that deals with it, for example go to a butchery for meats and a veggie store for fruits n veggies. Grocery stores will be a bit more priced on everything.

      Yes but you are not keeping in mind that the majority of South Africans start with making only $230 a month. That cashier he is paying at, will be taking only $280 home at the end of the month. That's why the majority of South Africa still lives in Shacks.

      @@realghoststories1210majority of South Africans have houses, the ones staying in shacks want may be from other provinces and working in that area.

      @@WeziweMrubata I'm from Northwest province. There are small houses in the township near me. But the majority of that is Shacks. Go have a drive to Otosdal and you can have a look at how many Shacks are there. Drive to Sun City and you will find large numbers of Shacks. I'm assuming you are from Joburg.

    Hold on a moment. You cannot compare South African food prices with American because we have really high food quality standards, USA can't export food to SA because your meat, grains and veg don't meet our laws on pesticides, chemicals and human consumption.
    Yes it's accurate if you want to know if you are coming on holiday to see costs, but not if you are comparing the cost to American costs.

      Well we grow our fruit & vegies & our farmers are the best in the world. Ask Ustralia & the UK. They wouldnt be importing from us otherwise. The US is overated. I stayed there for a month. I can guarantee you our food is better and affordable. The majority can actulally buy fruits & veggies off the street & we look healthier than you lot...
