Cool thing with stores like Spar is that they source meat from local farmers within a certain km radius to the store, so the steak / beef mince in Richards Bay would be from a farmer in KZN while a Spar in Bloem would source from a Free State farmer
Also keep in mind the price you see on the item in store is the full price including tax. There is no tax added at the pay point anywhere in South Africa and Africa in general. And it’s almost all organic no GMO, the only natural foods they sometimes maybe mess with is chicken, some suppliers MAY inject brine into the chicken to make it look fuller. But I think they stopped this a decade ago. Pro tip: if you want the best prices go to a store that deals with it, for example go to a butchery for meats and a veggie store for fruits n veggies. Grocery stores will be a bit more priced on everything.
South Africa is the largest fruit exporter in the Southern Hemisphere, exporting 63% of its fruit production to over a 100 countries..basically we grow everything here hence it is so fresh
@Jazz-fg2dm thank bro, I felt so sad when I saw on some other channels brothers and sisters who say they won't come ba k to Africa and they have been to Ghana mostly. Fruit looks so good. When I visited SA, I loved looking at all the products in the grocery store. As far as whether the grapes were a good price, also look at the how many pounds (lb). I think SA used kg. Please correct me my fellow South African cousins if Im wrong on what weight metric you use.
We use the metric system, our fruit costs depend on season and type, oranges are winter fruits obviously and it's summer here. In any country that self produces seasonal shopping is a good idea
It's a pretty good deal for those with foreign currency. But when you're earning South African rands, it's scarily expensive - and those prices keep rocketing!

Very few people can afford these prices. Yes, we have a large variety of food but some are expensive for 50% of the nation unless both parent's are workin.
You actually went to the most expensive grocery store here. It wasn’t always, Woolworths used to be. I found that when I lived in the US groceries were so cheap. I got so much for $50 when I went to a smaller grocery store but that wasn’t the case at Whole Foods 😅
Yes but you are not keeping in mind that the majority of South Africans start with making only $230 a month. That cashier he is paying at, will be taking only $280 home at the end of the month. That's why the majority of South Africa still lives in Shacks.
@@WeziweMrubata I'm from Northwest province. There are small houses in the township near me. But the majority of that is Shacks. Well we grow our fruit & vegies & our farmers are the best in the world. Ask Ustralia & the UK. They wouldnt be importing from us otherwise. The US is overated. I stayed there for a month. I can guarantee you our food is better and affordable. The majority can actulally buy fruits & veggies off the street & we look healthier than you lot...
Dude, you making it sound cheap by comparing it to dollar. But you aren't explaining that majority of the locals make minimum wage. Which starts at $230 a month. You spend $32 and that's not even a month's food.

Yes those fruits are from here and we export some. UK 🇬🇧 grocery stores are filled with South African fruit.
So true, even South Africa export butternut to the UK.
We actually export the majority of our A Grade fruit, what you see in RSA is actually B and C grade.
@@malumachado4561You r so right and my mother tends to say when they were growing up during apartheid era, they used to eat Grade A fruits.
In lempopo we still eat A Grade/but we say Grade A fruits there
Sure. All products will still be available as long as our governments stops murdering our farmers. Look how Zim turned out.
Now they all running here.
