I remember the exact moment I heard this song. Where I was physically, the period of my life, my emotional state, everything. People talk about certain songs being synonymous with moments or periods of their life but I've never really had that, with the exception of this song and some others. It changed my entire mental state and altered the path I took in life. That seems crazy for what is ultimately just a piece of music at a point in time but such was the impact it had on me in that second, in that moment, in that fleeting flash of the tapestry of my time in this world. I don't listen to it often but I always go back when I need to. Amazing.
My problem with GY!BE is that usually I only like certain fragments or movements of their songs. But when I do, I like them a lot. This their only composition I like as a whole. I wish I could tell people to listen and discover it, but GY!BE is an acquired taste I think.
Learn to perceive the alienating drone passages as a step in the progression of the song towards the climax. That's Godspeed's recipe: slowly build up your sound until it reaches a climax of almost unbearable intensity.
I think if you're introducing people to Godspeed the best track to start with is probably this one or Moya, cos they're not packed with ambient sections, just a lot of beautiful instrumentation everyone can appreciate. The worst one to start a person off on (even though I love it) would be something like 'like antennas to heaven'.
When i hear the first part of this this song i picture a dying man struggling to get up a mountain. And he gets up. And he raises his arms and fists to the sky. And he is happy! And he lets go!
That was some trippy music man. This is the first i have heard from these guys. They are playing a small club in san francisco soon and i can not imagine this wall of noise in such a small place.I wish it wasnt sold out already or i would go and experience it.
@HurricaneTBag mmm I dont think she sells album just cause is "insanely" talented it's just marketing based on image instead music. I want to listen her sing without a microphone and no effect after that, if it's right what you said, I will say she's talented. I've listened lot her songs and simply I think she sucks. But it's just my opinion so don't be anger.
The great thing about GY!BE is that the original record's production value is so shitty that sometimes their youtube videos are crisper than the actual record.
Really? I always thought the sound quality was pretty good, as well as production, since all the instruments flow separately. On Yanqui, Steve Albini did the production, and everything sounds messy and blended together. Skinny Fists sounds pretty good in my opinion.
Genghis Kon i don't know if albini did justice to the record, he is more of a noise rock hardcore punk kinda guy. Still not sure if the production is good or not... still a great record though
@MadSpider1012 You realize that Lady Gaga has four octave vocal range (five if she tries), went to music school, and writes all of her own material right? Her music styles are insane. Listen to Teeth, Hair, Monster, So Happy I Could Die, and You and I. She's insanely talented.
Try a piezo pickup with a parametric eq that lets you look for and kill the FB frequency. I don't like noise gates so much because you'll be able to hear when the effect kicks in vs when it's letting the sound through.
MadSpider1012 well who would want to put a 22 minute song on MTV? Tell me one person who thinks this is a good idea to put 22 minutes of post rock on tv which wouldn't generate any money only for the purpose of being artsy instead of 3 minute hit which would generate a lot of money???
@MadSpider1012 watch?v=83xz20H-hAs Yeah she's pretty talented, to say that she "sucks" but like GY!BE I find that hard to fathom, her music is far more diverse than GY!BE. Don't get me wrong I like GY!BE, but it's a basically a hipster's Porcupine Tree, which is cool I dig Porcupine Tree and I like some hipster music...but it's no where near the diverse collection of Godga's music. Several different styles of pop, industrial, Rock, singer/songwriter, to even metal. She's nuts bro.
If I had to listen to the same song for my entire life, it would be this one.
And Sleep
Valid
So what food would you pick if you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life?

it has been provef with scientific study that this is one of the 40 music tracks that effect your brain.
Arij Afzaal what are those 40 music tracks?

Eyes get watery every time I relisten to this album. What a work of art, man. Godspeed you.
"Lift Your Skinny Hands..." is the best GY!BE album
Was there, what a show. Feel nostalgic suddenly. Thanks for sharing.
Esta es una gran banda , de casualidad llego a mis oidos , son lo mejor que he escuchado en mucho tiempo ..... me encantaria que vinieran a Chile!!!
I miss the trumpets...
+Pedro Furtado There were never any trumpets.... That was his guitar sound you heard in the recording
Really? Are you kidding?
Not kidding... they had a french horn at one point, but no trumpets
Oh, so it must be the french horns, lol...
+Pedro Furtado seriously doubt it, that was before this album. It was guitars, maybe the violin, you thought was a trumpet.
always makes me cry
Ce morceau est exceptionnel, on a l'impression d'écouter un morceau de musique classique mais transposé au XXIème siècle.
GY!BE in Brooklyn tomorrow night. I am so excited.
how was the show?
@@breakbeat_hardcore It was amazing. Long, long time ago.

Ymbert Bonaventure Dickens yeah Steve Albini is a great producer but I don't think his sound lends itself well to gy!be
