I’ve been watching your videos for a while now, and I gotta say that you’ve made me rethink my life’s path going forward. I’ll be 66 in a few months, after chasing a career, raised kids, divorced, and now facing new choices for me! I’ll be retiring soon, and your commentary inspires me, and helps me focuses on what’s really important to me. Thanks to you and Frankie!
I recognize that face Silver Raven! Hi Lori. Ive been re-watching some old JC videos and thought this one would be a good....So I guess I would say from the last couple years that he made the right decision(s)! 😁 You two have worked very hard and accomplished beautiful things! My prayers to Boss on his surgery and recovery. And to you for your continued strength. Let him know we are all rooting for you two! Peace.
Wow it's perfect...it will be heaven on earth! :) Love those newts! My favorite as a child. Frankie's new friend :) Clean water, old trees and quiet peace....beautiful video!
I also just discovered your channel, courtesy of Al at Lumnah Acres. When I saw a video harking back to your rediscovery of your camp I had to watch. My God. Literally.
What beautiful country and your skill in videoing and and the editing had me almost smelling the fresh clean air and feeling like I was right there with you. Great stuff Boss and give Franky a pat on the head for me, he's such a good boy.
I watch your videos every night JC! Living just 100 or so miles away in Rhode Island I can relate to your cabin, piece and tranquility, and location!! The wife and I visit Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont at least 2-3 times a year. Truly "God's Country." And the air even smells better when you step out of the car!!!
+Brad1237202 Happy to hear that Brad, so glad you enjoy them. I have a new vid almost ready so you should see a new upload coming soon. The air at my NH cabin is blissful and I can't wait to return.
You are one hell of a person Boss! I have been following you for some time now, and you just captivate me with your skills, love of the natural things, and time itself as it seems to pass slower when ever I watch your videos. You are the truly the happiest person I can think of. You make me smile and wonder in ways only a small child would. So now I move to part two!
Haha ... no coffee mugs!! I understand your pain. :-) Gosh ... that water looks so clear, and how wonderful to think that your family's used that for so long. :-) You're very right about the trees ... I 'know what you mean ... I've seen what clear cutting can do. Those old trees are so alive and powerful, they should be respected and cared for. It's the most attune people who can 'feel' this. :-) .
I love getting water from this old well. I wish I knew the history behind it. Lots of old stone foundations in those woods and they always make me dreamy of a simpler life.
Thanks so very much for all your videos!!! They are all so Great! Frankie is Too! Your projects and Love of the forest are what I enjoy so much Thanks so much! Gus.
These have to be my favourite videos. So inspiring and nice to se that you cherished your childhood so much. Of course Frankie is great as ever! Life as a border collie!! Lol
Actually my childhood was a nightmare but this old cabin was my savior. I wouldn't be who I am today if I didn't have these woods to roam in when I was a boy.
Sorry to hear that JC, but I totally understand. My childhood was hard and def made me who I am as well and is part of the reason why my husband and I are selling our house in the concrete jungle and building our cabin in the woods.
Very nice place indeed, I think you are doing the right thing to keep it. You took me back to the firefly night lights we made as a kid staying up as late as we could just watching them.
the high altitude I can live with, with the quietness. my land was bare when I moved here, so I planted pine trees all around the property. my favorite are the long pines because of the music they play when the wind blows. Frankie looked funny 😊
I grew up in the country and the fireflies were awesome in the summer time. It seemed as though there were millions of them and now, if I'm lucky, I'll see one or two. It was nice sitting on the porch watching them dance in the night and listening to owls hoot. Thank you for sharing.
Love the way Frankie put his paws on the tree as if agreeing with how tall it was lol 😂 priceless the nut took me back to when I was a kid I loved my Nute but my mum didn't lol
I just LOVE you and your videos. Accidentally came across your channel and I am starting at the beginning...sort of..You and mama are so lucky to have each other and live your dreams. Frankie is beautiful, smart and funny..
So very wonderful to see the untouched beauty of God's creation!! And it touched my heart seeing how it made you feel also J.C.!!! You are a true Stuart of the natural World. Sure wish we had more people of your caliber sir.
I grew up in the woods and even now the smell of the woods- different with each few yards you walk- is really important tome and affects my mood (positively). And I too played with newts and salamanders as a child. Never kept them. Just picked them up and looked at them and then put them back. Some were orange and some were brown and spotted. We just called them all "salamanders". "Lightning bugs" were also fun! (Northern NJ in the 1950s and 1960s).
Wonderful to stroll in the woods with you, Frankie and your fabulous videographer. In the heart of Alaska there is a silence that engulfs any sense if separateness from that force.
You can't beat the northeast wilderness JC. That old camp make my memories of my child hood come flooding back. I spent a lot of time in a tar paper covered camp as a boy. Those was the best days of my life..
The last 2 videos really hit home. great job you make us think. You made my mind up I have been running it tru my head about restoring a older motor home and fishing and surf fishing the whole east coast well I retire in a year and a half and am on my way to find the start of my project today Thanks
Boss, I have to let you know how inspiring your content is and how much I respect your appreciation for nature and all creatures. You gave Frankie such a good life. What a happy chap he was. Also I enjoy so much, your stories. Thanks for sharing some of your life 🙏. Many, many blessings.
Happy to hear you find my ramblings beneficial. This series is special to me. I knew I had cancer at the time and with my future uncertain, I embarked on this awesome journey to fulfill the dream I've carried with me throughout my entire lifetime. We were just talking about this over our coffee this morning as were discussing our plans. Life really is what you make of it -))
This is similar to a place my grandfather built in Whitefield in the 60's. It's not as secluded as it used to be but still wonderful to visit. Lovely video:)
Nostalgia at it's finest... Beautiful area, I love the Eastern woods... I used to have a place like that, but it's gone and I can't do anything about it, you can try to protect things but there are some things you can't always protect... Keep it protected and in your family as long as possible, it is rare and precious; the Lord made us as stewards of his creation, there will always be evil in this world that tries to ruin it... Thanks for bringing us along Bud.
Your reflections on the quiet places are spot on. There are some places that were truly beautiful here in North Dakota but now have been turned into windmill areas. Your videos are a joy to watch!
Boss, words cannot describe the amount of inspiration you have given me. I’ve known for decades now that I was meant to live in the forest and chop wood. I was watching an earlier video and saw you mention the teacher who gave you the outdoor magazines. Isn’t it funny how we remember certain teachers? I certainly remember the teachers that impacted my life... for better or worse. Boss, God bless you and yours! Love from the Judges!
I really enjoy your videos. Was lucky enough to have a friend whose grand dad and some friends bought a half a lake up in Canada back in the 1940's. They build a log cabin and a few out blogs, which was neglected until my buddy took it on as a project. Lack of money led to creativity and he would invite groups of talented guys up, who helped him fix the place up. Eventually he bought out the other owners. Cabin had a lot of your elements...A border collie who loved to chase a frisbee, a wood cook stove (think it was a Crawford), lots of old tools, no electricity, no running water, no telephone, a group of good friends, cold beer, adventurous fishing trips down old winding logging roads. My health isn't good enough to go up anymore, but your videos make me very happy.
+gerard haubert Happy to hear you enjoy my videos Gerard and thanks for taking the time to say so. The place you mention sounds like a piece of heaven.
Watched a small marathon of your videos tonight while cooking fried chicken. I wasn't expecting to tear up but i did when you talked about living life and your dreams..making them a reality. I've been wasting too much time. Thanks for the kick.
I spent my childhood playing in the woods in Canterbury NH. I remember playing with the salamanders as well. This video was awesome! I felt like I could smell the woods! Looking forward to part two.
My family has an old Homestead back in North Louisiana where I'm from and when I go there, I feel just like you described returning to yours. I recently hiked back in the woods on ours and stopped by an old, old tree and as I looked up at it, I became filled with memories of childhood and that old tree. You are spot on in what you say. Loving these videos
Haven't seen one of those orange newts since about 1950s-60s. We used to play in the creek and also saw the big black with yellow spot newts. Also tiny ring neck snakes. Hognose snakes turned over and played "dead" to try and fool us. Lots of fun in the woods. Too many poisons being used now on lawns run down to the creeks and rivers. Love your recollections!
Just like the other Brad, I too watch your videos every night . I find them relaxing and really enjoyable. The camera work is fantastic.I try to get to the big woods (ADK) as often as I can to enjoy the smells and beauty of nature. thanks JC for the vids!
I can see why you love the NH Cabin more than anyplace else - it is what I think of when I think of a cabin in the woods. I'm soooooo glad you decided to keep it and now to make it your only home. This is a super exciting chapter of your life's journey. Cheers to you and charting a really cool course for the next few years. I sure hope you can do some videos on how you condense three places into one - that will help all of us learn by your example. I love these NH videos.
I'll be buying a place somewhere close to the NH cabin so that I'll have a safe place to park my vehicles in winter as well as my quads and stuff when I travel. I don't dare leave them that far in the woods unattended and the closest I can park or drive to the cabin in winter is 1 1/2 miles. I'm using this as a business opportunity as well which you will see in a future video. Selling land, buying land, moving out and moving in. Going to be an interesting year.
This video hit home. I grew up in the city. My mother was the city girl but my dad was a country boy at heart. Every Sunday, very early in the morning, he, hus brother, my cousin and some friends would go hiking in the woods and just hang out, making a campfire, cooking some goid food and enjoying nature. In the afternoon, he would take all 6 of us kids and find a magical spot to explore. A small creek with a fallen tree, where we would swim, a clearing with beautiful, filtered sunrays where we played catch or hide and seek, beautiful, rolling hills, ehere ee would roll on the grass in the summer, and sled in the winter. Out if the six of us, I am the only one who kept this deep love for nature in my heart. When I left my native country and moved to America, I eventually joined the military and was moved from city to city. My final assignment was in California, and I absolutely hated it. I cane to visit Washington State and immediately fell in love. It felt like home and we bought a place in s rural area. We are not quite in the woods but because our neighbors and us all have some acreage, it feels like we are. My dad came to visit a year before he passed and loved the place. This was the stamp of approval for me. We have a small herd of deer visiting every day, rabbits and birds fluttering about a beautiful butterflies enjoying the flowers we planted everywhere. I would not ever live in the city or, God forbid, in an apartment. My soul is at peace here. I don't know how people find satisfaction in the rat race.
Thank for sharing. I started building my cabin when i was 19 and moved in when i was 21. My dad had never seen my property until after I was living there. I remember the day he visited and know exactly what you're saying about his "seal of approval" :-)
I cant tell you how much i have enjoyed watching your video's, I hope you continue for a long time. And dont let losers that dont like huntin and trapin get you down. They need to get a life.
I recently found you TH-cam channel. and I must say, they call me home. I'm a New Englander living in Michigan now and, though Michigan has a beauty all her own, the North Woods are calling, the old land has been whispering " It's time to come home". Thanks to you, for solidifying the rumors of my heart, that the old land is indeed waiting... and well, as anyone lucky enough to have grown up there would understand. .. it will indeed be a fond reunion. wicked best wishes
+Neil Pare I can totally understand your feelings of being "called home". I went home with the intentions of selling the old place, but all that changed and now I'm doing a full restoration and going back home :-) Best of luck with your new direction.
I use to live up in your neck of the woods years ago. Had a home in upstate NY near the PA Border. Am from the SW corner of PA & WV. The area looks so much like my uncles old farm stead. The 1st homes was from the late 1800 & the newer one from the early 1900. The farm is long gone. The old folks have pasted on & there is little left of the homestead but the outhouse & the old decaying barn. They had this huge old Walnut tree that two man couldn't put their arms around. To get out to the house you had to cut over the ridge for several miles on a single lane dirt road. SO many memories. Thanks for the memory jog.
+thebossoftheswamp That is great news; looking forward to the addition! Also if you could talk about in one of your video about panic attacks/anxiety and how to reset your mind I would appreciate it. Blessings.
Cheer's, weathers a bit nasty so got a couple days of, we have 3 more trips of shrimp left to finish the season. Actually heading to William's Hr tomorrow for some cod jigging & hunt for a goose along the way, 400 km drive on a gravel road then 45 minute boat ride, back to my old hometown.....
you make me think so much of my brother he passed away at 55 miss him so much i was the tom boy of the family climb tree you name it we did so many thing like you do some of the times the story you tell makes my heart hurt we kind had a life like you God Bess
JC - i love your videos so much. you get so much enjoyment from the simple things in life and it shows. i was in new hampshire (portsmouth, hampton beach) this past weekend for the first time ever. beautiful place.
Thank you. Happy to hear you enjoy them. The NH seacoast is way too busy for me. It's the flipside of the coin from where I go to, but you probably figured that out from the footage.
Unless part 2 turns in to a Blair witch remake, I'm not sure how you could ever give that up. What a amazing area! ....Off to part two with a new cold one :)
Awesome Boss. Hope you are feeling well! You and Frankie give me joy! Do your dreams Boss. I am a 62 year old Gulf War vet with a miryad of health issues. I live in the GA mountains, I try and eat healthy, despite it all Istill run, lift weights and have an 18 year old Aussie Shep named Auggie who I love dearly. Just love watching you guys. Be well. I didn't see a link to your spices for that venicen sausage. Looks amazing.

i like how you interaction and think bout nature, and how you love your friend on four legs.you have fun by your self.
I am SO glad that your video came up on my feed! I am going to love seeing all the vids!
Frankie is a good sport. I was surprised he didn't try and snap at the little newt. I thought it was so cute. I've never seen one like that before.
Frankie doesn't have it in him to harm anything. He's chase a chipmunk but won't hurt it. I've never seen a dog quite like him.
Catching up on your videos. Thank you for sharing your journey.
I grew up in the country and the fireflies were awesome in the summer time. It seemed as though there were millions of them and now, if I'm lucky, I'll see one or two. It was nice sitting on the porch watching them dance in the night and listening to owls hoot. Thank you for sharing.
Lots of fireflies here. It's amazing at night.
Dick Proenneke lives on!
That's the best compliment a guy could get. Thank you kindly.

Your comment is heart warming. Thank you for that :-))

I spent my childhood playing in the woods in Canterbury NH. I remember playing with the salamanders as well. This video was awesome! I felt like I could smell the woods! Looking forward to part two.
Can't help but playing with those buggers, no matter what age you are.
Another new hack for me: spraying the decorative hat band with bug spray.... Didn't know about that before!
Absolutely inspiring. Great reflection!

You have some pretty refreshing videos. I get the feeling like I am right there with you.
Happy to hear that. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Good looking cabin Boss! It is true that those old tree's are getting harder and harder to find which is really sad.
I would never have the heart to cut an old growth tree like that. They are really something to look at.
I have told so many about the peace ✌🏽 that your ears ring . Man not sure I can let go out the mountains.
Agreed.

Love that kitchen wallpaper at 5:30
Love it Boss, you are an inspiration. Keep doing what you're doing, Cheers
Thank you. I appreciate the comment.
Wow I think I'll be watching more of your videos, very calming for me today, just what I needed. Thanks

karenchakey Thank you Karen. Been a long time since I seen a response from you. All the best.
Sounds great. Thanks for sharing that.
Thank you
Majestic!
By far this is my favorite series you have on here! Very spiritual and purposeful.
+Jason D My favorite too and I will be adding to it this summer.
+thebossoftheswamp That is great news; looking forward to the addition! Also if you could talk about in one of your video about panic attacks/anxiety and how to reset your mind I would appreciate it. Blessings.

Thank you. Happy to hear you enjoy them. The NH seacoast is way too busy for me. It's the flipside of the coin from where I go to, but you probably figured that out from the footage.
Frankie I think that gecko liked you.. .. two cute .. both of you's :)
Unless part 2 turns in to a Blair witch remake, I'm not sure how you could ever give that up. What a amazing area! ....Off to part two with a new cold one :)
