    The ICONS are symbols into the Church beyond this world, they represent people who loved Christ above all else and led lives of enormous sacrifice. I will always be thankful to those Saintly people, and venerate them at every opportunity as a sign of my gratitude. Christ has Risen!!!

    2:39, "he who venerates the icon venerates the reality for which it stands" (i.e.God Himself).

    Like someone who is born without knowing his mom and dad ,that’s how I see churches without Icons that represent our God and the Holy Mother of God and all his angels and Saints ☦️

    Greeks have icons....catholics have statues.....

    • @Trisagionfilms
      @Trisagionfilms  6 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Yeah its much more complicated than that. The Greeks had statues... the christians got rid of them from worship(as they reminded them to much of idolatry) and they were probably brought back during the renaissance in the west because of their obsession with "classical" Greece. The Roman Catholics also had Icons even after 1054. If you go to Italy you can see post schism Iconography all over the place, and its all in line with Orthodox iconography. Later they started to experiment with different art styles and started to do naturalistic looking paintings.

      While Rome never entered heresy when Pope Gregory rightly rejected foul Iconoclasm promulgated imperiously from Constantinople throughout the empire, neither did the Latins really embrace the icons with the ardour of Eastern Christians before or after. The great controversy stirred up by iconoclasm never really reached Latins because they couldn’t even read Greek. The tomos of the VIIth Ecumenical Council which lays out the Orthodox theology of iconodulism was never officially taken up by the See of Rome. My opinion of Renaissance and later Catholic art is that lacking knowledge of the theology of iconography Italian artists saw no reason to refrain from innovating and thus inventing secular pictorial art on pious themes. Their artwork became an autonomous expression less and less tied to the liturgical and devotional uses to which Orthodox icons still are strictly tied.

    more like the triumph of idolatry( this is what my sister said how do i change her) mind

    • @Trisagionfilms
      @Trisagionfilms  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, I think if your sister read the theology behind icons, she wouldn't be so quick to make such statements. The theology is sound, and if someone takes the time to learn about it, they will understand.

    I don't understand why venerate the icon when we are told to worship God in Spirit and Truth. We don't need pictures or statues . None of the early Christians did . So when did this strange belief took root . To me it seem idolatry

    • @dimitriosvlissides5781
      @dimitriosvlissides5781 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The reason is that you cannot understand what an icon represents between a prson and his communication with God .I assume that you can see God straght into his eyes and He will frightened of you hence youll get entry into paradise on the second coming
      Icons are teaching ,communion with God through a mediator ie a Saint or Holy Virgin PANAGIA THEOTOKOS ,are art ,culture, a story in itself that tries to teach you something to be in balance with your Psyche your spirit
      Now if you want to meditate its your choice

    • @evangelinasmusic

      We don’t worship the icons.
      Think of it like this.. before people had bibles, (bibles weren’t printed for everyone yet!) they had to learn the history of Christianity. Icons tell us what happened. Aside from that, think of pictures of your loved ones at home. People who have passed away. The pictures are a reminder of who they were and when you look at them you feel connected to them again and remember the affect they have on your life. The icons of the Saints are kind of like that. They are created by monastics who pray while creating them and they serve as a reminder of people who died for the faith and what they did while they were alive. We don’t worship them, we venerate (honor) them.

    • @patrickmartin8783
      @patrickmartin8783 5 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Actually the early Christians did

    • @2610paul
      @2610paul 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Alright so icons are not idolatry but a form that aided the early Christians who didn't have enough bible to go around for people to read and understand. Besides reading and writing did not drive the primitive economy. Craftsmanship and trade in goods was the driving factor or economy those days. I can buy all these but now that we have the bible in print for everyone to read and write why then do we still need these helps . We can see God and our blessed saviour so clearly in the pages of God's written word which is the bible why these icons . We have moved from a position of infancy now we are to mature in the true knowledge and the love of God .

      Paul Stephens the Orthodox Church is centered around traditions, our traditions keep us grounded and keep us from straying from the path that Christ set us on. Do we *need* icons? No, but the icons shouldn’t be taken from us just because someone else doesn’t understand them.
      The icons aren’t only what’s in the Bible, but they tell stories about the saints and other events, too. Why should we stop creating and respecting them?
      If there were no icons, there are a lot of wonderful stories of martyrs that I personally would have never known about. Like Mary of Egypt or St George.
      We don’t need them to see God, but we don’t need to do away with them either.

    Why would God demand to be worshiped, He is all powerful, infinitely wise, omnipresent and, eternal.He knows what is in the heart of all men.
    He chooses not to make his presence known and does not interfere with our lives and our choices. So why does he need everyone to get on their knees and bow to his glory?. Vanity is a major weakness that has no value in the realm of immortally. It defies all logic and cannot be explained. It's much easier to just drop religion and the books associated with it.. Make the most out of this life respect the lives of others and remain hopeful that death is only the beginning of a journey to an unknown plane of existence, you don't need religion or the threat of eternal Hell to accomplish that.

      Yeah you answered it yourself.
      He’s all powerful, he knew each of us before we were. He’s our father. Why wouldn’t he want the love of His children? Only a terrible father is Indifferent to His children and God is the most loving Father
