- COVID-19 didn't scare the neighborhood...apparently neither did our skeletons, so all our candy disappeared once again. I hope you enjoy our 7th attempt at transforming our house into a Halloween spooktacular. If you don't want to watch all 6 1/2 minutes, please forward to the end so you don't miss the kids' epic reaction to the finale. :)
As usual: if you have questions put them in the comments and I'll try my best to answer.
Finally, big props to Fiverr.com voice over artist Shinanagan, who did the voices for us. Look him up if you ever need a voice over.

Well, I had to watch it twice already because I still can't catch everything! This is truly outstanding and as custom as it gets. I'm slapping videos on a wall, and you're writing scripts, directing talent, designing sets, and basically blowing everyone out of the water you somehow found a way to fill your home with.
Thus is just plain awesome. The more I dabble in this stuff the more and more I respect the work, effort, and talent involved in what you produce every year. As you're going to hear from everybody excited to see you posted this, THANK you for doing this, and you'll always be the best!! Happy Halloween! I gotta watch it again now...
Sorry I didn't get to reply sooner, but I took a step back since Saturday to relax a bit. I sure appreciate your support and nice words. I did step it up a notch this year after dabbling into making more of my own stuff last year, and relying less on what AtmosFX are offering. The funny thing is, that even though it may seem more advanced than previous years, it came together surprisingly fast in only two weeks. Maybe because I had the story ready and then didn't have to spend so much time on trial and error as previous years. :)

The custom animations are fascinating to me. I started in July working on making my own singing pumpkins. My kids may not attend college after all the software I bought and tested trying to nail it down. I said it before, the more I learn the more I truly appreciate the work you put it. Just watching the pumpkins rolling out, then matching seemlessly when they stop, makes my head hurt. It looks incredible.
I'm just happy I learned to use keyframes on masks!

Yes, the reaction of the kids is what keeps the project going year after year. I love watching them take it in and interact with the show. It's really cool to experience. :)
@@ProjectThisHouse I tend to listen to the kids here like they're a focus group. I changed out entire video sections based on conversations between 8 year olds.

Kids making rude comments is very ignorant i wonder if their parents were with them and why dont they shoosh them and give them the parent stare to get them to be quiet like mine did...i got the look and was quiet immediately no questions asked...but thats just me...does or can anyone else relate to this at all? Hi Jen T. Over the entire night, the show runs maybe 30 times, and we get different reactions pretty much every time. Personally, I like when the kids interact with the projection, and even talk back to the characters. I made it for them anyways, and at least they're engaged, which is rare with their generation, where most of the entertainment they watch is on a little screen. :)
They are kids. I think it's hilarious when they talk back to the characters.
Girl, mine did. My parents were also great in the way that they'd explain WHY it was good to be quiet... Or why not maul products, or not to touch the glass at a zoo, ect.
@@SimplySarahJoy exactly...thats all im saying...its awesome that they were enjoying it...im a lover/fan of all things halloween...i was just simply talking about some of the comments that were made by the kids that were rude..nothing having to do w them interacting & having fun...and to the other person that said i boring...i go all out for my trick or treaters every year w my decorations and a costume for my hubby and me. I am far from boring my deary. Happy Holidays to you all.😃

Hi Comedy Caravan Video. Thanks for watching. I'm happy you like the videos. This is a mix of a lot of programs:. Adobe Photoshop for textures and still elements, Cinema4D for 3D animation, Rokoko for the motion capture, I assemble the final video and do the motion graphics in Adobe After Effects and this year I did the audio in Adobe Premiere...oh, the initial map of the house is done with Autodesk' Sketchbook. I think that covers it. :)
Wow ! How do you project onto the house though ? What’s the trick to get it so perfect ? Fantastic work by the way
@@sudman Thank you very much for watching. This is called projection mapping and I use video projectors placed about 35 feet in front of my house to do it.
It consists of two parts: First the mapping, where you place a projector so its beam covers the whole house. Then you outline the shape and features of the house in a paint program on a laptop connected to the projector while it's being projected onto the house. You mark the placement of the projector, so you can repeat it when showing the finished video. Second step, is the creation of the video, using the "map" you made of the house. I use Adobe After Effects to make the video, and place the different elements so they fit the shape of the house. Textures are done in Photoshop, some of the animations are from AtmosFX, and some I make myself. This video is pretty advanced, but it's easy to get started with something simpler, and still get a great effect. :)
Wow, outstanding!! Thanks for sharing. I will follow your steps for next Halloween and Christmas in 2021. I have a year to figure everything out, since I have no experience whatsoever in 3d animation nor the software. Can you put up a tutorial?

I was blown away by my neighbor's projections of ghost and goblins from inside onto his windows. In comparison, his is the Chevy and THIS is the Cadillac! We get on the order 600+ kids brought into our neighborhood on Halloween. If someone did something like this, instead of vans, we'd be seeing buses! THIS IS TOTALLY SO AWESOME! Great job! And the Trump monster was the crème de la crème!

@@ProjectThisHouse thats my favorite part about all of this. Its usually all custom made for your specific house so each one is very unique. Im sure there are some good editors and animators who could animate the same exact thing on to another house but it still would never be exactly the same because of the different features of the house and who would wanna go through all the work to do something thats already been done.

@@doggobarkwoofmeowdundundun4454 This year I tried something new to get a little more power without having to shell out thousands of dollars for a professional projector. So I stacked three Optoma EH460ST on top of each other and lined them up so they matched perfectly. That gave it a little extra pop. :)
I'd say Shock & Awe 3 got 'em all really good. It sure as heck got me.

Hi Cole Tiwater. Thanks for watching and the kind words. It's just regular linen that matched the house color. I found it cheap on eBay. I did have a local tailor prep it for me with liners and grommets, so it can stand the weather and is easy and quick to put up.

Hi Сергей Кулинич. If you don't include the projector and speakers, the cost of this 3D projection is basically just the time it took me to make it. I did buy a few pre-made animations from AtmosFX.com, but I've used most of them for multiple years, so let's say $50 just to have a number. I made the rest of the 3D and skeleton animation myself, so that is free, but that is only because I already have the computer and the software needed to make it. :)

Hi D Dunn. This is not really anything that can be sold. Everything (apart form the elements from AtmosFX) is one big 3D animation that would only fit a house model like my own. If you want the clowns, the pumpkin faces or the Grim Reaper and other startle effects, I can't sell them, as they are copyrighted by AtmosFX, but you can of course go to their website and buy them for yourself. If I misunderstood you or you were looking for anything specific I didn't mention here, please let me know. :)

This year I wanted to try and get a little more power by stacking three Optoma EH460ST projectors and lining them up to show the video on top of each other. It was a hassle adjusting them to match, and the image is a bit blurry around the edges, but overall I think it worked okay. :)

Re-formatting a show to another house-shape is basically like starting over, and I barely have enough time to do a show for myself every year. But if you join the Facebook group "Holiday Projection Mapping", you can find several creators there, that are offering their services for others. :)

Is your projector centered and projecting straight onto the house, or is it at an angle like where this is being filmed from? Also how far from your house is your projector placed. I have the same BenQ model. Looking forward to your tutorials. Great job!
Hi Nate. Thanks for watching. I'm projecting at an angle a little to the right off-axis so I can hit the side garage door as well. This is filmed right next to the projector so it gives you a pretty good idea of the position. It's about 35 ft from the front of the house. :)

Impressive work... I read a comment that you upgraded your projector this year. May I ask what did you upgrade to? Great color and lumens. Also, do you add anything to your house to be able to project so clearly and consistently throughout the house?
Hi Chris Evans. Thanks for watching. I'm now running three stacked Optoma EH460ST projectors showing the same video on top of each other, hence getting a bit more lumens than I used to. I will admit, it's a hassle trying to line them up precisely. The only things added to the house are windows coverings. :)

We did a very small window projection but hope to up our game next year. By the looks of your video it seems like you guys do this every year. That is so awesome!! ProjectThisHouse I uploaded a 20 second clip but again nothing spectacular. It was more to test the system. We only plan on doing it for Halloween. Our town of Rutland Vermont usually has a very large annual Halloween parade. Its a very popular holiday up here but this year it was a complete ghost town.

I’ve been doing a lot of research into projection mapping, but not sure if my house would work due to some pretty tall bushes in the front against the house. If I sent you a pic would you give me your honest opinion on whether or not you think projection mapping would even be an option?
