    Muni Long is showing you the correct way to protect (gate keep) hip hop. People, especially in the industry are willing to complain about culture vultures but are not willing to do the work necessary to prevent these vultures from having access to the culture. AND the fact that song writers are not respected in an industry that literally relies on their talents is insanity

      First off music belongs to all people.. gatekeeping for what?.. music is only a black thing? Because it seems the people that can make or break or run these companies arent black at all, these are the ones doing artists dirty & those culture vultures people speak of.. if it aint for the fans who come in many shapes & colors an artists popularity & ability to stay relevant isnt just from the support of only black people. Yea its wrong whats been done to her & other black artists but you are sadly mistaken to think artists "gatekeeping" the culture or hip hop will stop what these companies do

    • @c-anime23
      @c-anime23 11 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      This is nonsensical you don’t get to gate-keep music based off of race and skin color. By your own dumb logic I guess black Americans shouldn’t be able to dabble into Afrobeats since they’re not African. I guess if you’re not Spanish, then you shouldn’t be able to make Latin Pop music and if you aren’t white then you shouldn’t be able to make classical music…. Do you see how dumb this sounds?

Tory had some projects and features, but what really blew him up was his singing, which he really took serious once he saw how much PND and The Weeknd were blowing up, so by fall 2015 he caught a hit with “Say It”. You can tell Tory paid close attention to everyone else who was popping in Canada before him. This is why he ran with the whole “New Toronto” mixtape cause he saw everyone as competition

      Post Malone is such a blatant and consistent example of this. A guy who’s clearly not inherently a hip hop personality gets to profit on the genre while actual hip hop/rnb artists write his songs. Then after he makes his money off it while it’s trending, he runs off to make country/pop instead.

It becomes their song to do what they want with. Record labels are definitely recommended for people who don’t have experience running a business. If you can run a business there is no reason to sign to a label. Unless you care about fame. They can put you on a pedestal!

    These games that the industry been playing BEEN going on, as a writer I wish she would’ve had a team to help her get she deserved. For example the only reason Toni Braxton wasn’t making money early in her career is because Babyface was the one solely writing and producing; Toni had no input on neither one. Plus her contract wasn’t set up in a way where she was going to get much royalties or publishing. TLC suffered from this as well. Being that it was 3 of them, any money generated was going to have to be split, and they did not have a lot of input in the material that helped blow them up. Even their 2nd biggest hit “No Scrubs” was written by the R&B group Xscape.

    I think it's too late to gatekeep our music, they should have done it from the very start, however Black Artists need to start asking for everything, publishing, royalties, writing credits etc. Make sure they get paid for their work, these songs will be earning money until the end of time. Make sure the contract is set up properly.

    Good afternoon: It is so sad, that the actual person who wrote the song gets no credit. Or very little. This whole issue make me think of Chuck Berry, Drake, Tiffany Redd & Jlo. When are things gonna change...?? That's why you always give credit where it's do. If you don't you gonna get called out, no matter what. And payback to...!! I swear women get blamed for everything. Why do ppl treat us women, this way...?? I will always wonder that...!! This isn't her fault but Muni already knew the Music Industry do shady things like this. But Muni Long should be careful because she treading on thin ice. Muni doing everything to get dropped. You know how the Music Industry is. Everybody is related. Great video Blackey...!!

    As someone who has worked in this industry for almost 20 years, the real problem is with her management, they are the ones who negotiate ownership, royalties, etc… The artist either agrees or not. They had to to sign off on the work before it comes out, everything is contracted and approved by both sides lawyers. Saying business is bad after it’s done is a further example of bad business.

    • @yadsewnde
      @yadsewnde 11 วันที่ผ่านมา +9

      The real problem is the music industry in general. Its inheritly predatory. Authentic voices shouldn't be bought and masked for marketability. Those not in the space should connect w the space they wish to profit in and present themselves honestly. The only reason legal representation is bad and what not is because the industry is attention and profit driven so with so many trying to take advantage of you its hard to do things the right way.

    Great video bro. The dynamic you’re speaking on in the music industry isn’t new. The Ice Spice situation was another example of lighter skinned people just being more marketable. The black rapper that invested in oh boys career just realized what it was and cashed in his chips while knowing that. Honestly a brilliant strategy but heartbreaking at the same damn time.
