    The title of the video is DiplomaNcy. The "n" apparently gets lost in there. It's a made up term describing the way a high charisma player uses any of the charisma-based skills to magically bend the world to their will. We know that they're bluff checks.

      Our party went into some dwarven mines, and killed some undead. There was a dwarven longsword with acid enchantment embedded in one of the creature's chest. Our human paladin of Kaitos, Lodrolf Stormfisher, and our dwarf cleric Thorsson, wielder of the hammer Mjolnir, started fighting over it. Then our rogue, an extremely sexy Drow woman, walked up. With the help of her natural assets, and nat 20 persuasion roll, she convinced them it didn't exist.

    Amusingly similar thing happened in one of my D&D games. One player avoided getting caught by the guards by claiming to be an entertainer for Jeff's birthday (a random name he came up with on the spot). A few dice rolls later and all the guards are in this one room (and not at their posts where the rest of the party were) jumping out and yelling surprise as Jeff walked in. It was his best birthday yet.

      I was playing a Star Wars Role-Playing game and my Wookie Bounty-hunter with almost no communication skills was able to roll so well that he convinced a hardened weapons dealer to not only give me the stun grenade that I wanted for free but also to mess up and give me the rechargeable upgraded version by accident. In that very same session he failed trying to throw it twice despite his huge bonus to throwing weapons and knocked himself out in the final battle. (You always have a 1/6 chance to completely fail whatever you are trying to do. Leads to some hilarious stuff... like hugging a transformer box and electrocuting yourself... no comment.)

      The Blind Sniper that's pretty damn awesome
      one campaign i played in, we had a black guy who tried to roll for a pet during character creation. he kept saying different animals and rolling, but failing every time, then he finally got frustrated and said "okay, if i roll high on this one, i want the meanest, blackest, most racist slave ever made!" and bam, he rolled a nat fuckin 20. during the next session, DM introduced a psychopathic, murderous, giant black slave man that was given to the player's character for being the shop's 100th customer. the only thing the slave would say was "buka" (based off a joke the player had told in the past), and he immediately murdered a commoner on the street after the player took him out of the shop and let go of his chain lead for a second. much later in the campaign, turned out that the slave could speak perfect common the entire time and was just playing us all for fools and wanted to kill all our characters, but the player talked him into killing a shit ton of enemies before slaughtering our party. he took down like 10 enemies while in barbarian rage before finally getting beheaded by the paladin in our party, cus we had seen him as a threat all the way up until then.
      Good times.

She hissed, with a voice that sounded like a combination between a snake and an old woman: What are you doing in my lair? In response, our Hafling Bard, Pepe Bowie, answers her, mimicking her voice: What are you doing in OUR lair?!?!?!?!? PB rolled a critical hit. The manticore, a natural 1. She just stood there, protecting herself from the attacks of the rightful owners of the lair where she had entered, uninvited. We could no stop laughing for the entirety of the fight.

    • @Nixitur
      @Nixitur 7 ปีที่แล้ว +83

      Depends. If they're playing Pathfinder (which was mentioned in Free Speech), you don't generally set that DC by hand. It merely depends on the target creature's Charisma score, starting attitude and how outlandish the suggestion is. And there's a few Bard builds that will have no problem suggesting most things to most people.
      A sensible GM would obviously call bullshit on some suggestions, but that wouldn't be nearly as funny.

    • @Maletizer
      @Maletizer 7 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Nah, just bard stuff.

    • @General12th
      @General12th 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +Nixitur It's stuff like that what makes diplomacy utter garbage. There's no such thing as a stubborn NPC. There's no rules except for what the DM arbitrarily decides. It's a complete free-for-all as to whether or not the DM lets you do this or not.

    • @maurtendo
      @maurtendo 7 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      In 3.X, Bards can use Glibness, which gives them a +30 on bluff checks. www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/glibness.htm
      This is, of course, totally broken, since getting someone to believe a total lie only adds 20 to the difficulty modifier... So I can actually picture a bard pulling this scenario off.

    • @Nixitur
      @Nixitur 7 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      +J.J. Shank - Ah, I see that we have both confused Bluff and Diplomacy which work very differently. Diplomacy is mostly used to make people more friendly towards you and to suggest a course of action or get information. And there can absolutely be stubborn NPCs in that context as the DC depends on what the NPC sees as unimportant information or a sensible course of action and also what goes against their nature.
      Bluff, which is used in this video, is to convince people of the truth of what you say and if the NPC doesn't _want_ to believe you, it gets harder. They also get a Sense Motive check to find out that you're lying which depends on how strong-willed the character is which, again, is a way to make them stubborn.
      So, I'd say there are most definitely rules in at least Pathfinder to model stubborn NPCs by making the checks harder. If your definition of a "stubborn NPC" is that they won't ever accept any suggestions or lies by anyone, making all those checks entirely impossible, then I don't think that would be any fun at all.

    This reminds me of a amazing campaign I was in last year were a member of our party was just garbage at negotiation checks and would always roll two 1s (fumble = failure) every time they came up. This happened every time we had to interact with nekogoblins and as a result we joked that she kept calling them racial slurs. This happened every single time without fail. It was pretty incredible.

    I must say, I have only recently found your channel, yet you all have left me with this sense of just... awe. You approach each of these skits with such purity, and yet that purity is laced with such a deep understanding of each source's... their core. Speaking with such a firm grasp on each quality they have.
    I find it simply astounding how you can manage to have not only a deep understanding, yet somehow find the means to portray the absurdity of it all in such a... general, all encompassing manner. In this video, one doesn't need the absurd notion of how broken diplomacy can be in D&D in order be left floored by the final punch line.
    It's such a careful balance you all can strike in your scripts that truly leaves me in utter awe. These skits are crafted and delivered so neatly, I can compare it only to masters of their craft. No one else could be able to weave every element into their creation. A seemingly perfect blend of understanding, passion, and genuineness. And yet each of your skits have these elements.
    It's been such a treat discovering what you guys have created here, and I feel a sense of regret not discovering it all sooner.

      Wow, thank you so much for the kind words! We sure try for genuine engagement that leaves us with some level of accessible presentation in our writing, so it's gratifying to hear that that shines through for you. Most of all, we just love doing this and enjoy doing it all as best we can, however well that ends up being. : ) Welcome to the channel, and we're glad to have you now!

      It's great knowing you're still going strong! I'm not usually one for these longer winded replies, especially for somewhere like TH-cam.
      However, I felt so compelled to speak my mind here. Conceptually, you are one of if not the best channels I've
      seen on the site! As I stated, masters of your craft.
      It takes so much to bring it all together as you do, and so many others (while still enjoyable) fall short or end up relying on heavy handed references from time to time. It's refreshing to watch those who can let the source and their own humor stand on their own merits!

    As you attempt to begin a productive day of work a wild video produced by the mystical wizards of white lightning barrels through a mysterious monster like door and begins to harass you, where upon a ferocious battle of wit, will and wonder ensues. As the battle wanes you feel a sense of foreboding as if this is not the end and so you choose to follow the only sane course of action and attempt to run away, unfortunately the wizardly agents of purest white lightning have somehow created an amalgamation of videos stacked upon one another of which you see no end and sent it through the doorway for others to behold the wonder and majesty of it in it's entirety, of course your wonder and amazement are diminished by your feeling of sadness wondering if that project of yours will ever be finished. You send a quick prayer to some nameless god of productivity, whom had faded long ago do to a lack of the aforementioned concept across the planes of existence, in the hopes that you could find the will to tear yourself away and flee from the horde of virulent videos. Of course you critically fail to break your gaze upon the majesty that is the wizard's creation and must now watch as your carefully planned day is unravelled by the insane machination of some being known only as Kyle the Hobo.

    This is the life story, of Greg, as told by Charisma Mcgee
    A long time ago, 5 years, he was born into the butt sorcerers of the kingdom Totallyreal. He was lauched out of a catapult to see if Greg could fly, but in doing so, he shot lazers out of his eyes and murdered about a trillion butt sorcerers in the process. When he landed, he was a fully grown adult with a goatee and fake wig. He joined the Democratic King's Guard alongside his good friends, Big Fist and Garret Meyer and began his duties patrolling the Courtyard of Despair when he saw a chicken sitting next to a man with a top hat. He quickly rushed over, picked up the chicken, and through the genetic butt magic hit beat the man over the head with the chicken 6000 times, killing both him and the chicken. When he came to, he was patrolling to find a rugged man help move the body and stopped to question him. After a few questions, he realized what he had done and was put to death by the same rugged man. He was found dead not seconds after for his crimes against chickens, top hats, and butt sorcerers. He will be honored by his parents, Vinea Column and Tile-r Column in their memory.

      5 years later, and this is by far my best work in backstory bullshitting. I mean damn, I even made it work in a DnD context where the story is so goddamn asinine that I could see in the heat of the moment our rugged man would come up with it.
