It's funny how weird the discourse about The Acolyte is offline among us 45+ year olds. My friends and cousins who introduced me to Star Wars in the first place, are not hating on The Acolyte at all. They're intrigued by the story even if they don't think it's the best show in the Star Wars universe. They also liked Ahsoka and LOVED the Obi-wan finale. They don't take part in online discussion or rate movies or tv shows online.
As a fellow 45+, I concur. Not exactly what I wanted, but okay, this is what we’re doing. It’s not to the level of House of the Dragon, Andor, The Boys for me, but not every show is for every demographic. Hopefully the next show is closer to what I hope to see.

I’ve been a SW fan since the early 80’s. I don’t get the overwhelming hate for the Acolyte. I think it’s quite a step above the prequel films in acting, story, and FX, but I see the argument it’s about prequel level in quality. If an old school fan doesn’t like the Acolyte and they don’t like the prequels.. I think that is consistent. If they really enjoyed the prequels but absolutely hate the Acolyte, I’m going question if it’s more about cast “diversity” rather than the show itself.

I don’t see an issue having two Batmans (Batmen?). I think the fact that we’ll have a younger rougher more realistic Elseworld Batman with Reeves and an older fantastical dad Batman with Gunn will work just fine. 🫤🤷🏾♂️

As in Batman not reaching his previous box office heights again, and settling for being more of a mid-range superhero franchise?... SW fandom in my life long experience has always had this element of bigots. I was told point blank it doesn’t make sense for me to be a Star Wars fan because there are no black people in it… guess Lando didn’t count. I can totally see those guys from 25 years ago being fans of G**ks and Gamers in 2024.
What fascinates me is the group of people who hate the Acolyte also hated Kenobi...and also hated Solo...and Rise of Skywalker...and Last Jedi. But if we remember, Kenobi was supoosed to be a film. I always thought that the unjust hatred Solo got led to Kenobi becoming a show...which probably would have been better as a movie to. It goes to your point that when Disney and Lucasfilm try to give that fanbase what they want, they lose their center of gravity. Each series has it's own style and I think that is pretty cool. Andor...a dark and gritty war story...Mandalorian...tries to net young and older audiences...Acolyte...I feel like it is trying to invite new genrrations of Star Wars fans. It's a spectrum and I feel so lucky to get to see it. Some shows I like more than others, but, in the end, I am grateful I get to watch them all rather than wait 10 years for the next film.
You make some good points especially the part about the reception to Solo leading to Kenobi becoming a series. And I'm also grateful for a lot of the content we get, not all of it is my cup of tea but I enjoy most of it.
As a casual fan, two Batmen is fine. Nobody cares. We want good stories. This is exactly why we have Elseworld stories. Being conscious with how casual fans spend their dollar is a valid concern. Every business has to weigh that. I’m excited to see both more Noir style Batman in The Batman 2 and whatever we get with Brave and the Bold. Life is short. Let’s see both as long as they are made with care.

John Campea talked on his AMA video on Thursday how his Open Mic video about ep 4 of The Acolyte got more views than any other video he posted lately and it literally made him want to quit TH-cam. I'm not sure if he mentioned it during the show but his video about the Ki-Adi stupid complaints got downvoted heavily by the same idiots who upvoted his Open Mic show.
Honestly The Batman being more “realistic” upset me a lot. I was so excited at the idea of Reeves doing a more fantastical Batman and then he decided to go in that direction.
I think Jeffrey Dean Morgan is far more likely to be in Butcher’s head than Hughie’s mum not being real. I find it hard to believe that Hughie could just make up why his mum left like that and that scene would just be ruined in retrospect. Also, Hughie has told Starlight about his mother being there whereas Butcher has not mentioned JDM to anyone else. Far more is lost in the story if Hughie’s mother is in his head rather than if JDM is in Butcher’s head.
AEW has been slowly declining and now recently their ratings have fallen off a cliff. Everybody with common sense knows why,because people have been telling them that banger matches mean nothing without good storytelling. You need to get people emotionally invested to do good business. It's the same with Star Wars. It's nice that you spend so much on good effects and set design but without a compelling story you are just wasting money.
Yet the numbers haven't been affected. It's #6 in the top 10 most watched shows currently. So it's not AEW. You only think it is because you don't like the show. Big difference.

I think almost no one is going to avoid a Batman film, for any reason. It’s Batman. History is a great teacher, fellas. Look em up. Hey geek buddies I thought of a good way to do a blade movie that is canon 2 the. MCU the first 2 movies happened in the. Mcu and the third movie happened, but it was a better movie. With the same result, blade becomes human. Most of the vampires die from the virus and then blade lives as a normal person. And the MCU after the first snap blade has his powers back and it wakes up Lilith and orther monsters and vampires. Lilith finds out that Dracula. Her first son is dead and wants to resurrect him. Then the second snap happens, it starts. Waking up more vampires lead by a Resurrected Decon Frost blade defets him and find out about Lilith, teams up with the other mystical characters at the end. Leading into midnight sun's when they fight lillith in squel

I loved the first three seasons. I wish I could enjoy it as much as you guys! This is my least favorite so far, but there is still a chance it could get better for me! I love everything with Homelander and I'm curious about Sages master plan. it's the other stories I'm not enjoying.
Hughie's mom is definitely there. The Starlight Foundation lawyer discusses her POA paperwork is all on the up & up. Plus, she interacts with objects. Which is exactly what Jeffrey Dean's character never does. The drugs are already on the table, etc. He also only talks about things that Butcher knows, cancer, fired, etc.
You don't think that if Hughie has created an alternate timeline that he couldn't have created that POA so he doesn't have to take responsibility for his Dad's medical decisions. Also, she just happens to work for Vought. And she did not have Compound V on the table. That was all holistic medicine.

Re: An "R" rated SW and Vogel half-joking about GoT on Coruscant. An "R" rated Star Wars doesn't happen without a top-to-bottom reboot which completely reframes the idea of GoT on Coruscant. If you present that idea as hokey and unrealistic and weird, nobody outta really complain about that; you're analysis it totally reasonable. The current Old Man Lucas version of SW that's owned by Disney can't or won't do R rated SW. We saw rhetoric toward Mario Puzo Mafia SW for Book of Bobba Fett and that didn't work out. We're seeing a "Sith centric/////bad guys are the 'heroes'" promo rhetoric for Acolyte and that's not working either. As long as the kiddie aspect of SW is dominant, you're not going to get R rated SW. The very best the SW franchise could to currently is to retool and reform so that stories like Andor become about 40% of what SW is with the remaining 60% being the Flash Gordon-y stuff that Lucas was doing and a decent portion of that being super kiddy like the Young Jedi stuff or maybe like Resistance. 40% like Andor but often maybe also with space wizards and lightsabers. 40%!!! We're not anywhere near that currently. A Star Wars franchise (after the Old Man passes on) that makes R rated stories ideally flips the 60/40 thing to 40/60.
The Acolyte IS Pretty Bad. 90% of the writing is terrible. The direction of that terrible writing is bad. Example: Ep4. Osha asks if Bazal is with us. First off he is on the ship so of course "he" is. That aside better phrasing of the sentence, if you want to use the pronouns in the sentence ( Osha: Is he, they, with us ). Better...Osha: Is he with us? Jecki: Yes "They" are. It is ok to utilize pronouns. Just write better sentences to actually present a inclusion as opposed to one character pushing the directive. Present the fact that civilization has already accepted this and not tell the audience the current Real World problem. Other issues, too many sentences to list
I see myself as a pretty neutral, relaxed fan…but everyone has a limit. Mine was when the lead actress from the show comes out making a song against the fans ? And someone who comes from a pretty well off family trying to sound she’s had it rough. Yur that’s where lm out. I hope the next Star Wars show does better.

Look at the new Doctor who... they're doing a disservice to gay people. By making that the focus. People are not watching Star wars for love stories. Yes there ends up being love stories... but that is after you establish the story. Having gay lead characters, females or minorities. Doesn't make it a bad product. But we know already....that when that is the reason the director is chosen. And not because they had a good star wars idea. Or were the right person for the job. Just the entire concept of inclusivity is becoming anti inclusive. And pretty racist even. The idea was now everybody could be included. And no limits. But they're just doing the reverse.
I love Andor which for me is the best Star Wars since the original trilogy. I also love The Force Awakens, and rewatch it all the time. But The Acolyte to me is just doubling down on what prior projects like The Last Jedi started. Taking things fans love, like the Force and the Jedi, and turning them into something unrecognizable.

Each to their own. I absolutely loved it and many others did too. I'm a lifelong Batman fan, and this felt like it was ripped straight from the late 90s early 2000s run of Legends of the Dark Knight. However I know that you are not alone and it didn't land with some others.

I'm just tired of Disney releasing so many bad projects. Not just Star Wars but Willow, Goosebumps, Night at the Museum, etc. And it's not me having something against diversity, the shows are just shells of what they use to be. It's like story is the last thing on their minds.
I love the new "Goosebumps" series, to be honest. It's a Sony Pictures Television production for Disney+. I'm so hyped about the Disney+ movie "Descendants: The Rise of Red."
The people that fall into the category of toxic fans are clear and present on youtube but I imagine that while they are vocal, they are also the minority. I think they are pissed off because the shows are also bad. This is not a legitimate excuse for their behavior to be clear. I am only drawing a distinction because Wonder Woman (Amazonians), Star Wars Episode 7 (Rey before The Last Jedi), Rogue One (Jyn Erso), Aliens (Sigourney Weaver), Sicario, Terminator Franchise, Underworld, etc.... all have strong female leads and were all beloved for the most part and you didn't hear people complaining about the female leads. There is also a strong gay character in The Boys and you don't hear the same type of vitriol. It does seem that Disney is not prioritizing good show development and execution in comparison to the other networks (HBO, Prime, Netflix, etc...) and so naturally there are people looking for evidence to explain why this is - out of frustration. Fans cannot hear and see what goes on behind closed doors at Lucasfilm but even to fair minded people - there appears to be priorities other than putting out fantastic and well developed entertainment. Disney has the resources to put out good product (look at Andor) so it's frustrating that they are absolutely failing because of whatever it is they are prioritizing over what it takes to make compelling entertainment. Star Wars is different than most IPs because it created such a strong emotional bond with fans when the initial trilogy came out. People for the most part just want to re-experience that magic and Disney is failing.
A minority wouldn't matter except quite a few in that minority have MILLIONS of followers, subscribers and viewers. That makes a difference in spreading that kind of toxicity.

I don't follow those channels or watch their content (or I click off quickly once I realize what they are doing) - but some of them come up in my youtube feed because they are talking about content related to other channels that I do watch like your channel, Harloff and Campea. (I love the Geek Buddies btw). I don't know what their following is but the channels that do come up look to be pretty small but I am sure there are channels out there with larger followings. I just think we are all giving them more credit than they deserve at the end of the day. I think more people are in the group that we fit into. We just want better content because this IP means so much to so many people. Have you ever seen fan reactions to an IP that produced more sobbing adults than Star Wars (Luke showing up in Mandalorian, Rogue One, Obi vs Anakin in Revenge of the Sith, etc....) Star Wars is just different and I think most people just want Disney to care about this as much as we do.....(I'm sure they do but sometimes it just doesn't seem that way...)
That’s fair. I agree… except I’d say Boba Fett is actually a really bad show. Personally I find Acolyte to be the top of the pile of mid seasons of SW television. I think it has a chance to get better.
So far it’s my least favorite, but I love the new cast members and the development of the existing cast this season. It’s the execution I have issues with. I’m far left politically, but even I find some of the overt Trump/MAGA references distracting. But I do love seeing all the CHUDs getting upset at the show 😂😂

If they want to quiet the haters, Star Wars needs to have Andor and Xmen97 levels of writing quality. The Acolyte is not terrible, it is holding my interest with appealing characters and good music. What is FRUSTRATING is the bad writing: Osha and Mae's motivations don't make sense from what we have seen. The writers are trying to pull off a clever twist, but stories must be extremely well written to pull off something like that. Films that did this really well are Gone Girl, Fight Club, Memento, Sixth Sense. In all of those films, the story made sense until the twists, then it really made sense.
Agree with John about the possible problem with Blade. Was a horrible idea giving an actor that much control over a movie project when it’s part of cinematic universe
It's not the first time an actor with sufficient clout has had approval. If they can't get it good enough then they shouldn't make it! Good on Ali - if they want a subservient quiet actor then pay him out of his contract and go ahead and hire someone with no credits who'll just shut up and act

@@MrNathansdadAgree. We shouldn’t take one rumor about a difficult actor as the reason for the film being pushed back. From all the restarts because of script changes there may have been a lot of bad ideas floating around. It’s probably a combination of issues and not just Ali.

If they don't end up doing The Batman Part II, I think it'll be more about creative issues on the film itself rather than an issue with Gunn's DCU. The bigger issue with the potential of The Batman Part II and The Brave and the Bold cannibalizing each other has to do with tone. If they can offer different enough looks and feels, they have a chance to get people to both films. Plus, it's Batman. If there is one single comic character that will get people to theaters almost no-matter-what -- Spider-Man the only one to possibly contend for that -- it's Batman.

It's funny how weird the discourse about The Acolyte is offline among us 45+ year olds. My friends and cousins who introduced me to Star Wars in the first place, are not hating on The Acolyte at all. They're intrigued by the story even if they don't think it's the best show in the Star Wars universe. They also liked Ahsoka and LOVED the Obi-wan finale. They don't take part in online discussion or rate movies or tv shows online.
As a fellow 45+, I concur. Not exactly what I wanted, but okay, this is what we’re doing. It’s not to the level of House of the Dragon, Andor, The Boys for me, but not every show is for every demographic. Hopefully the next show is closer to what I hope to see.

I’ve been a SW fan since the early 80’s. I don’t get the overwhelming hate for the Acolyte. I think it’s quite a step above the prequel films in acting, story, and FX, but I see the argument it’s about prequel level in quality.
If an old school fan doesn’t like the Acolyte and they don’t like the prequels.. I think that is consistent. If they really enjoyed the prequels but absolutely hate the Acolyte, I’m going question if it’s more about cast “diversity” rather than the show itself.

What fascinates me is the group of people who hate the Acolyte also hated Kenobi...and also hated Solo...and Rise of Skywalker...and Last Jedi. But if we remember, Kenobi was supoosed to be a film. I always thought that the unjust hatred Solo got led to Kenobi becoming a show...which probably would have been better as a movie to. It goes to your point that when Disney and Lucasfilm try to give that fanbase what they want, they lose their center of gravity. Each series has it's own style and I think that is pretty cool. Andor...a dark and gritty war story...Mandalorian...tries to net young and older audiences...Acolyte...I feel like it is trying to invite new genrrations of Star Wars fans. It's a spectrum and I feel so lucky to get to see it. Some shows I like more than others, but, in the end, I am grateful I get to watch them all rather than wait 10 years for the next film.

Every business has to weigh that. I’m excited to see both more Noir style Batman in The Batman 2 and whatever we get with Brave and the Bold. Life is short. Let’s see both as long as they are made with care.

Honestly The Batman being more “realistic” upset me a lot. I was so excited at the idea of Reeves doing a more fantastical Batman and then he decided to go in that direction.
I think Jeffrey Dean Morgan is far more likely to be in Butcher’s head than Hughie’s mum not being real. I find it hard to believe that Hughie could just make up why his mum left like that and that scene would just be ruined in retrospect. Also, Hughie has told Starlight about his mother being there whereas Butcher has not mentioned JDM to anyone else. Far more is lost in the story if Hughie’s mother is in his head rather than if JDM is in Butcher’s head.

AEW has been slowly declining and now recently their ratings have fallen off a cliff. Everybody with common sense knows why,because people have been telling them that banger matches mean nothing without good storytelling. You need to get people emotionally invested to do good business. It's the same with Star Wars. It's nice that you spend so much on good effects and set design but without a compelling story you are just wasting money.
Yet the numbers haven't been affected. It's #6 in the top 10 most watched shows currently. So it's not AEW. You only think it is because you don't like the show. Big difference.

Hey geek buddies I thought of a good way to do a blade movie that is canon 2 the. MCU the first 2 movies happened in the. Mcu and the third movie happened, but it was a better movie. With the same result, blade becomes human. Most of the vampires die from the virus and then blade lives as a normal person. And the MCU after the first snap blade has his powers back and it wakes up Lilith and orther monsters and vampires. Lilith finds out that Dracula. Her first son is dead and wants to resurrect him. Then the second snap happens, it starts. Waking up more vampires lead by a Resurrected Decon Frost blade defets him and find out about Lilith, teams up with the other mystical characters at the end. Leading into midnight sun's when they fight lillith in squel

Hughie's mom is definitely there. The Starlight Foundation lawyer discusses her POA paperwork is all on the up & up. Plus, she interacts with objects. Re: An "R" rated SW and Vogel half-joking about GoT on Coruscant. An "R" rated Star Wars doesn't happen without a top-to-bottom reboot which completely reframes the idea of GoT on Coruscant. The current Old Man Lucas version of SW that's owned by Disney can't or won't do R rated SW. We saw rhetoric toward Mario Puzo Mafia SW for Book of Bobba Fett and that didn't work out. We're seeing a "Sith centric/////bad guys are the 'heroes'" promo rhetoric for Acolyte and that's not working either.
As long as the kiddie aspect of SW is dominant, you're not going to get R rated SW. The very best the SW franchise could to currently is to retool and reform so that stories like Andor become about 40% of what SW is with the remaining 60% being the Flash Gordon-y stuff that Lucas was doing and a decent portion of that being super kiddy like the Young Jedi stuff or maybe like Resistance.

A Star Wars franchise (after the Old Man passes on) that makes R rated stories ideally flips the 60/40 thing to 40/60.
The Acolyte IS Pretty Bad. 90% of the writing is terrible. The direction of that terrible writing is bad. Example: Ep4. Osha asks if Bazal is with us. First off he is on the ship so of course "he" is. That aside better phrasing of the sentence, if you want to use the pronouns in the sentence ( Osha: Is he, they, with us ). Better...Osha: Is he with us? Jecki: Yes "They" are.
It is ok to utilize pronouns. Just write better sentences to actually present a inclusion as opposed to one character pushing the directive. Present the fact that civilization has already accepted this and not tell the audience the current Real World problem.

Look at the new Doctor who... they're doing a disservice to gay people. By making that the focus. People are not watching Star wars for love stories. I find it fascinating that these so called fans hated the prequels which lead to George Lucas selling it then the sequels came out which they hate but now love the prequels??? It's pathetic.. nothing will come close to the original trilogy so just enjoy the ride good or bad & if they hate it so much stop watching

Most people I’m seeing trash Acolyte are young people who are fans of the prequels.
People my age who hate the prequels seem more level headed and acknowledge Acolyte isn’t great, but it’s at least on par with the prequels.

I'm just tired of Disney releasing so many bad projects. Not just Star Wars but Willow, Goosebumps, Night at the Museum, etc. And it's not me having something against diversity, the shows are just shells of what they use to be. It's like story is the last thing on their minds.
I love the new "Goosebumps" series, to be honest. It's a Sony Pictures Television production for Disney+. I'm so hyped about the Disney+ movie "Descendants: The Rise of Red."

The people that fall into the category of toxic fans are clear and present on youtube but I imagine that while they are vocal, they are also the minority. I think they are pissed off because the shows are also bad. This is not a legitimate excuse for their behavior to be clear. I am only drawing a distinction because Wonder Woman (Amazonians), Star Wars Episode 7 (Rey before The Last Jedi), Rogue One (Jyn Erso), Aliens (Sigourney Weaver), Sicario, Terminator Franchise, Underworld, etc.... all have strong female leads and were all beloved for the most part and you didn't hear people complaining about the female leads. There is also a strong gay character in The Boys and you don't hear the same type of vitriol.
It does seem that Disney is not prioritizing good show development and execution in comparison to the other networks (HBO, Prime, Netflix, etc...) and so naturally there are people looking for evidence to explain why this is - out of frustration. Fans cannot hear and see what goes on behind closed doors at Lucasfilm but even to fair minded people - there appears to be priorities other than putting out fantastic and well developed entertainment. Disney has the resources to put out good product (look at Andor) so it's frustrating that they are absolutely failing because of whatever it is they are prioritizing over what it takes to make compelling entertainment.
Star Wars is different than most IPs because it created such a strong emotional bond with fans when the initial trilogy came out. People for the most part just want to re-experience that magic and Disney is failing.
A minority wouldn't matter except quite a few in that minority have MILLIONS of followers, subscribers and viewers. That makes a difference in spreading that kind of toxicity.

I don't follow those channels or watch their content (or I click off quickly once I realize what they are doing) - but some of them come up in my youtube feed because they are talking about content related to other channels that I do watch like your channel, Harloff and Campea. (I love the Geek Buddies btw).
I don't know what their following is but the channels that do come up look to be pretty small but I am sure there are channels out there with larger followings. I just think we are all giving them more credit than they deserve at the end of the day.
I think more people are in the group that we fit into. We just want better content because this IP means so much to so many people. Have you ever seen fan reactions to an IP that produced more sobbing adults than Star Wars (Luke showing up in Mandalorian, Rogue One, Obi vs Anakin in Revenge of the Sith, etc....) Star Wars is just different and I think most people just want Disney to care about this as much as we do.....(I'm sure they do but sometimes it just doesn't seem that way...)

Personally I find Acolyte to be the top of the pile of mid seasons of SW television. I think it has a chance to get better.
I agree with Michael, this season of _The Boys_ might be my favorite.
So far it’s my least favorite, but I love the new cast members and the development of the existing cast this season. It’s the execution I have issues with. I’m far left politically, but even I find some of the overt Trump/MAGA references distracting. But I do love seeing all the CHUDs getting upset at the show 😂😂

If they want to quiet the haters, Star Wars needs to have Andor and Xmen97 levels of writing quality. The Acolyte is not terrible, it is holding my interest with appealing characters and good music. What is FRUSTRATING is the bad writing: Osha and Mae's motivations don't make sense from what we have seen. The writers are trying to pull off a clever twist, but stories must be extremely well written to pull off something like that. Films that did this really well are Gone Girl, Fight Club, Memento, Sixth Sense. In all of those films, the story made sense until the twists, then it really made sense.

If they don't end up doing The Batman Part II, I think it'll be more about creative issues on the film itself rather than an issue with Gunn's DCU. The bigger issue with the potential of The Batman Part II and The Brave and the Bold cannibalizing each other has to do with tone. If they can offer different enough looks and feels, they have a chance to get people to both films. Plus, it's Batman. If there is one single comic character that will get people to theaters almost no-matter-what -- Spider-Man the only one to possibly contend for that -- it's Batman.
