    Fun fact, if you need to pull YPbPr component from a PS2 and you use RGB SCART, you can do so without swapping the cables. SCART will carry YPbPr. All you need is a SCART amplifier and an inexpensive SCART to component adapter. Send one output to your SCART input and the other to your component input - no need to swap the cables out. The OSSC will even support YPbPr through its SCART input.

    Even with binoculars sitting right in front of the screen its very hard to notice any difference at all... and even then it can be pretty much a matter of taste as to which is "better".
    I bought a couple of ps2's a few months back and have bought a ton of games, but haven't got around to hooking it up yet lol. What a great console the ps2 was, such an impressive library of games and they still look amazing !

      I recommend re watching once TH-cam finally processes this in 4K lol xD
      Even then, you may still find the differences hard to spot but in both 480p & especially 1080i its there :) Just shows you how good the scart cables are :)
      I love the PS2, loved it as a kid & I love it even more now! Get free mcboot with GS mode selector and it can be incredible ^^

      @@TheAffroShowGameplayHello friend, what an amazing video you have provided us. The best I've seen by far, out of countless of videos I have seen. Just one question, what TV did you use to get these incredible images? I hooked up my PS2 to a 4:3 Dell 2007fpb monitor using PS2 Component cables→gbs-converter →VGA but I can't get around a dull, blur looking signal every time :/. I can only achieve crisp, cristal clear signal as you have on my PS1, & PS2 games by using the same set up I mentioned above, but through my PS3.
      None the less- what I really want to achieve, is to get the same great, amazing, beautiful signal directly from my PS2, as you did. Thanks, I appreciate any inputs, or suggestions that you may have.
      PS:
      The PS2, on my Sony Trinitron CRT tv through Component cables, already looks stunning. But, my main goal is to get the same image quality, or at least as much as possible, using my Dell 4:3 LCD monitor(:

      @MagiX19 I personally used the OSSC device as you will see in the video itself & the video description :)
      I used a Samsung 4K display although what you are seeing wasn't on the TV as it was captured by the Elgato HD60s Plus but the TV footage is similar:)
      I also use high quality component or Scart cables & I use the line multiplier of the OSSC, again shown in the video:)

    I just got the original PS1 cable and everything is suddenly so much sharper. After snooping around for a bit I found for around $20 which in my case is a lot cheaper than the RGC. That one would have cost me $70 including shipping, handling and import taxes. Good to see the built in capacitors don't interfere with the signal in any significant way. Great video as always!

    Silly question that may have already been addressed but.. what type of TV are these scart cables running off? CRT? LCD? Etc.. am curious as I have an SD crt and have rigged an HDMi downscale for 480i over scart and noticed the retro tink will output 1080i on scart. Am reluctant to try for fear of damage to the CRT if not supported.

    Nice experiment and comparison. Do you know how the official ones wire or handle sync (sync on composite perhaps)? Also curious why you chose to use the official PS1 (SCPH-1052) instead of the PS2 (SCPH-10142) cable since you demonstrate with PS2 games and not PS1. Here's my take: I prefer the picture/graphics from the official ones as they are less washed out. However, when blowing up the image to 1080i, it is revealed sycn on luma / RGC cables are very slightly but noticeable sharper (i.e. more defined pixels). Still, I would argue the differences are not significantly different nor trivial--but subtle. Can't go wrong with either and I suppose it will all boil down to price and availability.

    • @TheAffroShowGameplay
      @TheAffroShowGameplay  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the Official Sony cable is Sync On Comosite :)
      Because I couldn't find the PS2 version of the cable & these cables are rare & expensive now so it's not viable to buy them both, plus I wanted to know how much better the newer custom cable was :)

    • @azmune
      @azmune 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheAffroShowGameplay Thing is, I've read ideally PS2 should use an SCART cable without the 220uf capacitor (which is inside the official PS1 but not the PS2 ones). What will be the effect of this immediately and in the long run is still beyond me but if you'd like to use the the same cable on both consoles, you should use an SCART equipped with 1000uf capacitors.

      Fun fact. SCPH-10142 needs a mod because the cable is fixed to 4:3 mode. the cable have a small circuit, with a step up 5v->12v chip (LTC1262) connected from the pin 10 in the AV-multi (througth the step-up) to pin 8 in the scart. needs retire one of the R220 near to the pin 8 and weld a cable from the +5v pad (purple cable) directly to the pin 8. and wala. 16:9 mode activated. the OEM PS1 scarts cables, SCPH-1050 (JP21 variant (my unit+conversor JP1-> scart)) and the rest of the world variant (SCPH-1050) the pin 8 (11 in JP21) is connected to +5v directlry (both unit have a little PCB with the RGB capacitors and some other stuff) (pin10 in the AV-multi) (see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SCART pinout for the A:R mode)

    Its a shame that SCART was never adopted here in North America.

    How do the RGC cables compare to Retro Access?

    • @TheAffroShowGameplay
      @TheAffroShowGameplay  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have never used retro access so unfortunately I don't know but, the RGC cable is a high quality PS2 RGB Scart cable so its definitely recommended if you want a great picture for the PlayStation 2 :)

    The official sony cable looks like it was made for ps1 not ps2, the specs for each system are slightly different. You can still use it though.

    • @TheAffroShowGameplay
      @TheAffroShowGameplay  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That is correct & it can be used on all PlayStation consoles up to PS3 :)

    I don't see any difference other than the screen adjusting shape.
    I usually notice a difference if I look at a grid, or pattern, but I didn't notice anything.

      @TheAffroShowGameplay  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ah that's just bad editing on my part lol, both screens were the same shape xD
      The higher resolution footage does show a difference albeit minor although 1080i did show a fair difference in image sharpness:)

      The Cable quality should be the same if not similar, Retro Access is simply the US version of what RGC is (RGC is a UK based company)

    • @nobodytonobodysbusiness

      Could it possibly have anything to do with two sets of capacitors in series. There are capacitors inside the PS2 which is why the RGC (or any other cable) won't have them. The PS1 did not have these capacitors internally, so they are in the cable as expected.
      Find it odd that Sony went this route but makes sense when you think about it.

    En las resoluciones bajas no noté diferencia, quizá en el oficial se veía un poco más brillante. Pero en 1080i ya se nota que el cable RGC se ve más nitida la imagen.
