- I'm really enjoying short biographical monologues, followed by "circling questions", in Persian. I would love to see the same in Arabic, and in fact for all languages. I really like how you not only learn a language(s) but you also help other people learn which is the best part!
There is a little known (I think) website called Spanishlistening.com in which they have 400 little videos exactly as you are describing from every Spanish speaking country (to experience the different accents) with a transcript for each. It is free. It absolutely helped me when I needed that late-beginner/intermediate content (along with Lingq of course!!!). Cheers, Steve!

I think it is such a good way to learn a new language
Steve, I wish you could get in touch with people at a "Hippo" club...I imagine you are familiar with the work of Yo Sakakibara (Language is Our Music)...your sense that we will be naturally interested in learning about the persons we might meet through the videos you suggest is right in line with Sakakibara's thoughts about children's natural absorption of language through the actual persons in their lives who speak them...The teens in Hippo club families have done some amazing things together, such as a book about the physics of sound. It occurs to me that they might be a wonderful resource in putting together the videos/stories you want developed. There were no Hippo clubs in the U.S. last time I checked, so I have long dreamed of somehow being in a poly-lingual atmosphere...then found LingQ...thanks so much for all you've done!

Steve, a little suggestion if you care to hear it:
Just say you'll pay, not "pay or compensate" and not "it might be this it might be that". You'll get better results by being clear and definite. Perhaps prepare an application form that says something like "If your application is accepted we will pay you $X for 4 stories" or whatever. And then have specifications for the stories (length, material type, correct spelling in transcripts etc.) Personally if someone was asking for this in English, I wouldn't bother applying unless I knew what the trade was... Or it was free. It sounds weird but human psychology is such that people may do something pro-bono or paid completely and properly... But generally people don't like doing it somewhere in between.
Thanks and agreed. As this project evolves we need to define terms and conditions more clearly. I am doing so now.
Funny how Steve never thought of this and is just asking viewers or invite people the viewers know to put in all that effort without knowing exactly what they're getting in return. It's all a part of marketing and business, and just as you said, people may not want to go through all this trouble without incentives, especially if Lingq wants it for all languages and upcoming ones too. Same for me, even if they had Tagalog I wouldn't do this unless I knew the compensation was fair and well worth the effort. If I referred this to someone, they don't even know Steve and probably don't use Lingq. We can't trust or believe in something without clarity. If certain languages aren't getting enough content, it's easy to twist arms because Lingq needs that content, so speakers of those languages have the power and could get away with charging a bit higher and just be like "take it or leave it" than languages getting tons of content. If only one group of people supplies that kind of content for a certain language and no one else, Lingq may ask them to continue creating more content, giving them the power to decide whether to do it or not and negotiate a price

Something awesome would be people discussing real important issues in their country/culture. Ive found lots of content where people are discussing weather, hobbies, travel and other kind of blah topics.

To me, the Easy Languages in Japanese aren't too easy. It just goes to show you that spoken Japanese from real people is a lot different than Japanese from a textbook.

I don’t know if anybody has heard of the English teaching method called the Callan method from the UK. It is very much based on the question/answer system.
One way I think the mini-stories could be improved is to have more who, what, where, when, why questions. Based in my memory, the Chinese and Cantonese were nearly all yes/no questions.

Aku belajar bahasa indonesia karena orang-orang mengatakan bahasa itu mudah, terutama untuk saya dan orang filipina lain karena ada kata-kata serupa banyak, contoh anak (bahasa) - anak (tagalog) = child

Ada beberapa kata dengan suara yang sama tapi penterjamahan beberda contoh bisa (bahasa) = can, able to... bisa (tagalog) = effectiveness
lupa (bahasa) = forget...lupa (tagalog) = land
Dan juga aku menonton acara di youtube. Kamu tahu Hitam Putih di Trans7? Aku menontonnya karena ada orang beberda dan mereka menggunakan kata beberda, so the variety of the words is good to practice listening ^^

The best methode to learn something is to teach that something to someone.
Even "grammer" becomes "grammar" gradually when we teach it.

Just go straight to native content, be comfortable with a period of ambiguity and forget the stupid mini stories that are so boring even Steve can't handle them unless he does 3 languages a day.
I didn't find the 60 mini stories boring and it really helped me build my vocabulary.
Because each mini story repeats the same vocabulary over and over again, it helps remembering the words. With native content, I see so many unknown words that I may not see again before days or weeks maybe.
I like to fight on two fronts when I'm learning a language, or two difficulty levels, if you will. My current level, that is, something that's as close to an i+1 as it gets. And native material, which is ALWAYS something that I'm interested in. I like to read what I'm interested in, but the further it is from my level, the quicker it drains my motivation. That's when current level content shines. It's just a welcome break that gives me time to regain my willpower. With time, the gap between these levels gets narrower and narrower. Until eventually I just migrate to native content fulltime.

How about stop waiting for volunteers to come to you and actually try to find some native speakers yourself? Join the search! Waiting is how you lose in business, Steve, you of all people should know that, being co-founder and all...so quit being lazy about it, get out there and start networking, instead of asking the public to do all the work of what should be your task, while you just sit there learning Arabic and Persian. Why is it so hard for you and the people at Lingq to network and be socially proactive? If you want to get more people to sign up to Lingq, get new languages there faster! That can't happen unless you find as many native speakers as possible to prepare content. The more people working on it, the earlier you'll get them. Surely there are especially lots of SE Asians in your area to get those languages up. What's the point of language learning if you can't even be proactive enough to network with new people? Don't tell me you'll only approach people unless you speak even a bit of their language. You don't, because they're not on Lingq and had no way to learn it, so swallow your pride and just do it.
Also getting paid is only fair and should be the universal compensation unless someone outright asks (though unlikely) for some kind of discount at Lingq if such a thing even exists. Why would somebody put in all that time and effort to supply what you described to fulfill your demand just to get a discount? In that case, instead of getting paid, they have to pay a one-time reduced price for...whatever they're getting for their money's worth. That, instead of pocketing the money for something else
