I think the most touching part of this scene is Goku never blamed, or guilt-tripped his son in any way for letting the fight reach this point. Instead he recognized, without having to say or even hint at at the fact that every mistake a boy makes is in part ultimately the failing of a father. I think Goku knew this, which is why he said he was proud of his son for being able to go as far as he did, even despite what he let happen. This is not to say Goku has never scolded Gohan, because he sure as shit has, but he's smart enough to know that in this situation, even though Gohan wielded immense power, that he was still just a teenager, not fully mature, and in possession of the same wisdom as someone like say Piccolo, or himself for that matter. To me, this is one of Goku's most powerful moments because he took responsibility as a man, as a father, and not once did he complain or say something that would make his son feel guilty over causing his, and King Kai's death, because he knows that any good father would never do that to their own son, and again, like I said, he knew Gohan was just a teenager who didn't yet have the wisdom to know that sometimes just killing an evil being like Cell is more important than taking the time to make them suffer, which is technically how the fight got to this point in the first place. Goku knows all of this, and he put the whole consequences of Gohan's mistakes in his shoulders, and handled it like a true man.

This is by far one of the most powerful and touching sequences in Dragon Ball history. Man, I just can't explain by words how much I personally love the android/Cell saga, the storytelling, feel like there was a climax throughout the whole saga that led to this amazing and heartbreaking ending with Gohan watching all his friends suffer and unlocking his full potential by pure anger and Goku having to say goodbye to his beloved ones for more than 7 years. Then we have the final Kamehameha clash between Gohan and Cell which is just as amazing. The music, everything about this saga is just so damn perfect. Not to mention that every secondary character had their role throughout the story and this scene right here should've been when Goku leaves his protagonist role to his son, making him the new hero.

That is for damn sure something to be proud of as a Father, that an 11 year old boy could achieve that much power and come so close to victory, despite lacking the experience to finish off a villain ASAP.
Thank you! I've always wondered why Goku didn't use instant transmission to take him and King Kai back to Earth. I completely forget that Goku explained his reason. This needs to be top comment so everyone, including myself, will quit asking why Goku did what he did.
TheArceusftw Nothing would have happened. Cell's explosion wouldn't have been bigger than a simple solar flare. Do you understand how much bigger the Sun is than the Earth? Cell's explosion was planetary level and wouldn't have affected the Sun at all.
TheArceusftw Easy, he would have died. Between his own explosion and the Suns intense heat and radiation Cell wouldn't have been able to regenerate. But Goku was never that smart. "Hi King Kai, I brought you a present."
MAXIMILLIONtheGREAT Goku can only use instant transmission when he can lock on to the energy of a location, But only having like 10 seconds it was prob pretty difficult to try and track the suns energy so he thought of the one place he can lock on to with such minimum amount of time, which was king kai's world
Well he states that he had been thinking lately that Earth would be safer without him around, seeing as he seemed to attract villains. So, he decided to stay there and die for the best.

Goku was proud of Gohan because he had entrusted the fate of the earth to an 11 year old boy, with a massive oversight that Piccolo spotted - Gohan does NOT like to fight, and instead he was scared and fearing for himself & his friends lives. Gohan was not the warrior who loved fighting like other Sayians.
Despite it all, Gohan stepped up to the challenge, and beat down cell who lets face it, would stomp the shit out of anyone else there, much less his Cell Jrs. That is for damn sure something to be proud of as a Father, that an 11 year old boy could achieve that much power and come so close to victory, despite lacking the experience to finish off a villain ASAP.
if the whole series was animated like this it would have been awesome
Seeing Goku , Vegeta and Trunks standing together watching is like watching a bunch of Gentlemans and i dont know it is so cool hahaa
Longest 10 seconds in history
Midair Have you seen JoJo?
@Chimps_ahoy That is exactly what timeskip means. I mean, if we go by that logic, then in DBZ 7 years passed in only a few minutes (Buu Saga).
Lovely animation and music, I'd pay for another Kai that's like this
what is the song playin like the orchestrated peace when he's holding cell talking to gohan before he instant transmission's out?
I LOVE HOW KING KAI IS ASSOCIATES HIMSELF WITH AN ANIMAL AND A INSECT (NATURE).
Thank you! I've always wondered why Goku didn't use instant transmission to take him and King Kai back to Earth. I completely forget that Goku explained his reason. This needs to be top comment so everyone, including myself, will quit asking why Goku did what he did.
ok thanks.... I think it's wonderful watching again those scenes in HD
thanks again !!!
Even Goku can make us weep with his emotional words.
Comparing this to the Sparking Zero cut scenes....
man..
Bruh I was just thinking this🤣 sparking zero need to take notes and ion mean off their slide shows😅
Though it raises the question: What would happen if Goku launched Cell into the sun while he was self-destructing?
Then the universe is fucked
XEN0 GAMERS9000 Maybe just the solar system it's in, really.
MAXIMILLIONtheGREAT Goku can only use instant transmission when he can lock on to the energy of a location, But only having like 10 seconds it was prob pretty difficult to try and track the suns energy so he thought of the one place he can lock on to with such minimum amount of time, which was king kai's world
This make me cry even after so many years
"I should had listen to my dad"
Piccolo sure was right about finishing him off
Well he states that he had been thinking lately that Earth would be safer without him around, seeing as he seemed to attract villains. So, he decided to stay there and die for the best.
i like this gohan voice way better than the regular one
Wait, why does the animation actually look good?!
