  • Originally called Mantis, this Stand-up roller coaster was converted into a floorless roller coaster during the 2014-2015 off season. Rougarou features new trains and a new color scheme. Did the conversion revitalize this attraction? Find out in this in-depth review!

    I got 5 rides on this coaster in all different spot in the back and front. I think it’s a great ride and I kept my head forwards so literally no head banging. I didn’t even think it was bumpy at all. The only slightly shaky part was the corkscrew at end. It’s a great ride with a classic feel to it. It reminds me a lot of afterburner with the quick pace and intense moments.

    I think the main problem is that people went in thinking floorless trains were gonna automatically smooth out problems the standup versions had.
    You have to think, these are older coasters that have had a lot of wear over years. There's only so much you can do to fix them without retracking.
    That said, I don't mind a bit of rattle or head tap as to me, as long as I'm not hurting, I'd say it adds to the intensity.

  • @Jason_Maier
    @Jason_Maier 4 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    Some Rougarou reviews have stated it does have the B&M rattle . . . . but all things being equal; I'd rather have a rattle on a floorless than my shoulders and testicles banged on a stand up!
    That and I wish all the B&M floorless and inverts could have the vest restraints that Banshee has.

    • @XscreamThrills
      @XscreamThrills  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This ride would be perfect with vest restraints! 👍

    • @mutoneon
      @mutoneon 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@XscreamThrills I've heard they wanted to but the vests have too much width for Rougarou's safety envelope. What about vest restraints in a Diamondback or Fury style alternating pairs arrangement? I suppose the loss of capacity would make that non-viable. I sure hope they can figure out how to make Rougarou more successful. I'd hate to see it go.

    I like how you are always fair with your reviews. I am one of those that pretty much overlooked this coaster. I rode it a couple times, then pretty much forgot about it. I'll try it again next time I visit. Since that last visit, I figured out how to ride with these B&M OTSR without getting headbanging. I just keep my head forward, and it works with most of their coasters (not Firebird).

  • @TheSonicsean
    @TheSonicsean 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    It's usually a walk-on, and of the three floorless coasters I've ridden, this is my favorite. It's telling how this ride is pretty much forgotten when Dominator at Kings Dominion is extremely similar (save for having no theming, whereas at least they themed Rougarou to a swamp creature for the ride over a swamp) and considered one of the top coasters at the park.

    • @Blast2224
      @Blast2224 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      TheSonicsean I thought Rougarou was in reference to a loup garou which means werewolf. Regardless, it’s theming is so scarce, Rougarou might as well mean tomato soup. Dominator is fun, but people forget it’s not an original build and a transfer B&M, making it difficult to attribute its popularity to Kings when Six Flags conceived it.

    I rode Rougarou about three weeks after it first opened in 2015, and I remember there being some effects behind the first loop. They used a ton of fog on the loop itself, and there were green flashing lights and sounds in the trees behind it to make it seem like there was something in there. I have no idea if they still use those effects.

    Thanks for this review. I prefer SV, and MF, (obviously) I also prefer TTD. But Believe it or not, I also prefer Gatekeeper, and even Raptor. for me this ties with Max Xl-200 or even Maverick since I prefer bigger drops and/or large down hill sections. It's the most underrated coaster in the park and it works perfectly at about 11am when MF gets too crowded. Put your heard forward and you won't get it banged as badly, but I like the back row and still get my shoulders bruised on the corkscrew immediately after the MCBR; the only truly rough moment on the ride. Thanks for this review; it seems fair to me!

    I just hold my head forward and experience no head banging whatsoever. I told my mates to do the same they all had great rides as well. The view in the front is neat, but I find that the forces in the back are so much better on this ride. The speed through the elements feels more natural in the back. The problem with this ride is that the instructions in the station tell you exactly the wrong way to brace yourself. The only rides that need a headrest are the launch coasters. Keep your head off the headrest on Rougarou!

    • @VictorJeraldo
      @VictorJeraldo 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      One thing that I found out unfortunately is that leaning forwards to brace and prevent head banging only works if you are tall enough. My Fiance is 5' flat and can't get their head forwards enough to protect it on Rougarou or on Raptor

    I’m very sensitive to rides that hurt my head - I’m also shorter, so my head is always right between the restraints. This ride is my second least favorite ride at CP *solely* because of the head-banging (Corkscrew is last, ouch).
    If the restraints were replaced by ones like on the Maverick? It would shoot up SO MUCH in my ranks!!! I love B&M coasters a lot, and it’s a shame that the restraints are holding it back from being amazing! It seems like an easy fix, too, but I’m also not a coaster car designer, so maybe there’s more to it.

  • @ppipowerclass

    I think that another thing that is impressive is how little space takes. It's tucked away, it weaves OVER Iron Dragon. You can literally walk 2 minutes in any direction and ride another coaster too. But like you said, it's almost always walk on and it does get over looked.. Probably because it's sitting literally right next to Millennium Force. One other thing. This coaster is LOUD. I mean, really loud. Raptor is also built by B&M is also loud, but this thing.. Holy cow. Valravn and Gatekeeper at Cedar Point are also B&M's, but they're not loud.. I'll let you figure out why :P

    • @XscreamThrills

    • @JamesTaylorMain

      It looks like sand is filled in the rails of the track on Gatekeeper and Valravn to reduce noise. If Rougarou was to be retracked, the same thing will be done to it.

    As a big guy, the seats are too close together for comfort. I don't care for it's location, because on a hot day the air over there is thick and muggy. But, it's a lot better than it was as a stand up coaster. The inversions would put too much pressure on my knees, that problem no longer exists

  • @ecclestonsangel

    I got all excited about this roller coaster and started making plans to try it out....until you mentioned the corkscrew . I love roller coasters and am allowed to ride many of them, but any roller coaster with a corkscrew is verboten. I suffer spinal spondylosis from being hit by a punk college kid in his car. Riding a corkscrew could transect my spinal cord. Oh, well. I'm sure there are other cool coasters I can ride that don't have them. I still want to ride the Intimidator at Kings Dominion. Rode the Dominator, but it was so hot that day I had heat stroke and never got to the Intimidator. So that's a personal quest for me!

    This thing hurts, it, huuurrrttssss! When I "stuck my head forward" I was neckbanged. When I sat upright facebanged, either way, this roller coaster should be charged with domestic violence for what it did to me.
