Moved here during the recession and went through the same. At one point, wanted to go back home but decided to tough it out. I'm glad I did because these were the experiences that shaped me into who I am today.
I had friends from Manila who, when they visited, literally told me to just go home. They saw me mopping the floor and cleaning up after pets at the clinic I worked at. Sabi ko, kung di ginagawa ng boss/friend ko who owns the business yung ganung bagay, maaawa ako sa sarili ko. But siya din naman mas mabigat pa work than me.
Becoming an immigrant could be a humbling experience, and at the same time be an opportunity to reinvent yourself and change your perspectives in life.
Eventually, I was able to go back to becoming an entrepreneur and move to a job in public service.
I am glad I went through it all. If not, I might not be as grateful and would have taken things for granted because everything was easy.
Just like coffee, life is better experienced when you mix the bitter with the sweet.

Galing naman ni Sir, in a so short span, he was able to achieve the elusive Canadian dream, a rarity among Filipinos. He should be recommended for Filipino achievement award. Congratulations.

I know some pinoys who when they were studying in Canadian University not IS but pure legit immigrants. They balance the time of studying, working manual jobs, walked thru the snow in winter chilly weather. With perseverance and determination, they graduated with baccalaureate degrees with great distinctions or summas, more so they took master's degree. Now, they work in their field at the same time professoring in the university and the other in the federal govt. But they remain simple and never look back.

As said, mahalin mo ang trabaho, kung tagalinis ka ng kubeta, love your work and be the best toilet bowl cleaner.

What I appreciate living in Canada for a long time is that no one look down on any job. Coming to a new country is not easy, and doing whatever job is ready and available is a wise move as it can provide you with network, paycheque, and will sustain you while you get to know the culture and the lifestyle here. Whether you stay in that work or advance to
something else is totally up to what floats your boat.

Not so extra ordinary story naman lahat pinagdaanan. We came here as skilled immigrant jn 2008, my husband worked as Civil Engr in Dubai and I worked in a govt in the Phil for 23 yrs and Supervisory Position at that time when our app was approved. I have a Doctoral Degree. May 4 yr old son pa kami. Wala kami kamag anak dito at friends lang. Nag cleaning kami, nag waiter at waitress sa Indian Wedding , nag dishwasher asawa ko etc. Aside from child care struggle. Kaya mostly ng mga immigrant or bago dito sa Canada bihira ang may silver platter and spoon at magaan na agad ang buhay.

Basta OFW, anywhere in the world, the same experiences. Bad experiences with work is not exclusive in Canada, same din ng success story.🙏👍

Proud of you kabayan! Hard work pays off when you really work hard for something then we will definitely reap of our benefits sooner or later, kapag hindi ka nag maselan dito sa Canada the consistency will go to extra mile will give you the edge for others. Tfw ako napunta dito 2013 kabayan as food counter then I waited to get my papers pr and citizenship. Then I studied supporting myself. 🙌🏾🙏🏽👏🏾

Actually, we have a lot o kababayans here in Canada who are professionals: Certified Accountants, HR consultants, Executives in oil and gas and more. Yun lang, they do not really socialize sa mga Filipino orgs.

2 cents ko lang. Over ang "odd' . Hindi odd yan. Regular job yan na meron ding nag eenjoy. Sanay lang pag laking pinas kasi na soap opera , hampaslupa, katulong, boy. D2 ko narealize na masyado tayo sa ganyan while ibang lahi ay they look at it as normal decent job.

@@mr_tanod In this case po, yung paggamit po ng "odd" does not refer to being "strange," or "unusual."
"Odd jobs" is used by many to refer to casual employment.
Here is it's meaning in the Cambride dictionary:
small jobs of different types, especiallythose that involve repairing or cleaningthings:
He’s been doing odd jobs this summer to earna little extra money.
Ito naman po sa Oxford dictionary:
a casual or isolated piece of work, especially one of a routine domestic or manual nature."he takes odd jobs, but nothing that would lead to a career"

@@inanutshellvlog salamat mam ina. Ung definition is different doon sa context or the way kung pano i describe ni sir guest ang tingin nya sa "odd" job.

I know a LOT of people who were doctors in their countries working in the hospital as orderlies, housekeepers, maintenance, etc. they just kept pursuing, went back to school while competing in a very stiff competitive field among other applicants. They accepted it until they reached their goals. You SIR are in a clerical job classification in the hospital in your last work. What’s wrong with what you call as “odd jobs”? Who do you think you are? A lot more people probably with more education have sacrificed and swallowed their pride because they have families to feed but they persevere. You can’t knock any job out as long as it’s honest and legal. Your experience is nothing compared with others and titles are just made up.
