    They explain this in lore. Its really difficult to be in a dogfight without sound. You have no awareness of the location of the enemy, so ships have sensors installed that track the location of ships, then speakers mimic the sounds of lasers and engines. Its one of those "read the books" kind of facts.

      Kyle Hill I wonder how much a laser (that could actually do something in terms of destruction) would negate the acceleration of an Ion engine...

    • @kylehill
      @kylehill 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      +asgart16 that's why you angle the laser to fire in the same direction as the ion beam!

    • @asgart16
      @asgart16 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Kyle Hill hmm that could work, but what use would the laser have then? ;)

      Kyle, sorry to hear you're not feeling well man.
      Do ion engines have the highest specific impulse when you include some kind of matter / anti-matter engine? I thought that would be virtually 100% efficient since all the fuel (matter and anti-matter) is converted directly to energy. Just curious...

    • @ShouldHaventJoined
      @ShouldHaventJoined 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The use of anti matter changes the drive since with anti matter you are colliding opposites at each other destroying both for the byproduct being energy.

    @Kyle: If I remember right, the TIE fighters are so fast and nimble because they have nothing. No life support, no shields, nothing but steel, engines and blasters. The pilots need dedicated suits so they can breath in their TIE fighters. So, they have much less weight to them compared to other ships. And, I guess they just have stronger, more futuristic Ion engines to boot?

    • @brianlocke6561
      @brianlocke6561 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +Kyle Hill pretty much any particle accelerator is an ion gun. They accelerate protons at relativistic velocities. Also plasma cutters use a beam of plasma to cut through materials and could be considered an ion blaster.

    • @kylehill

    • @brianlocke6561
      @brianlocke6561 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That is a matter of semantics at that point. They are finite in that at some point you stop firing. At what length does it become a bolt? The point is that they accelerate ions at a target. They are a in essence a gun.

      The only reason TIE Fighters could or are real,are due to their design. Seethe inner mechanisms are quite simple,as gravity pulls you down,the ION engine could be forcing it up. With another ION engine propelling it forward. However,the mass,would be to great for the outer ship. Meaning that the first ION Engine,is pointing at a 29 Degree angle. As it propels it forward and up at the same time,however,when it reaches a certain speed,the engine,in a way,will supress itself for a brief second or two. As it shifts from the angle to a completely straight engine,meaning that the Fighter,is now going straight. But by that time,it is going so fast,that gravity is barely affecting it. But the rudders,or turning system,is quite complex.
      The rudders have to be on top,and bottom of the sides,so it can actually pull up,and turn. The way by turning it,is by having separate levers,and a button to make it one lever. As each lever controls a different side. Then when it becomes one lever,there are buttons on it to control the both,right separately,left separately,and to go up and down. It needs to feature oxygen tanks so the pilot can breathe,as the speed,would almost make you loose all your air.
      My head hurts now.

  • @ScorpioHighlander

    Well honestly it's not hard to imagine how an ion engine could have grater acceleration, you simply have to increase the number of ions it spits out and or the speed they're spit out at. That said you may have trouble getting it to the point it could match a TIE fighter's acceleration and maneuverability.

  • @trebacca9

    in order to counteract the acceleration problem... couldn't it be a hybrid chemical/ion engine? Chemical fuel for acceleration and swift movements, and Ion engines for speed maintenance and fuel conservation? going to admit that I don't know a tonne about rockets and shit, but that makes sense to me.

    At the very least we know they have anti-gravity and gravity generators. If they can nullify the effects of gravity on a ship then not only are those flying feats possible, but trivial if you can generate and nullify gravity itself. Those gravity generators would have to effect the behavior of mass in their area of effect, perhaps they are increasing the mass of the exhaust while in the thruster assembly (Even smaller maneuvering jets) which could drastically juice up the available trust provided. Once outside of the thruster assembly the mass my be reduced back to normal which would explain why when these future ships are taking off and landing they aren't creating massive wakes behind them. Then the Falcon takes off the amount of wind we see is vastly less then we'd expect. This makes sense since the shields system ships have appear to have a kinetic nullifer\dampener which may work by quickly trying to reduce the mass of objects impacting the shield. This would still make stopping\impeding plasma weapons since the consequence of being able to reduce or increase the mass of an object effects e=mc^2, if they are reducing mass they are in turn reducing energy. The question is (assuming conservation is obseved) what does the shield and thrust systems do with the converted mass? Does it in turn help power the shield and ship itself, is it converted and stored then laster vented, etc.

    Well Tie fighters don't even have to have ion engines. They can use petrol for all we care, cause a tie fighter is (as the name suggest) a fighter interceptor flying vehicle. These are specifically by their design not meant to do long distance flights but be as manoeuvrable and fast as they can. WW2 fighters and even modern jets have about 1/2 hours of fuel. That's why they need aircraft carriers, to reduce the distance from battlefield and allow longer combat capability. What about fusion power? It generate a lot of heat and energy for centuries, how about using that to propel.

    From the mouth of Ralph McQuarrie, the concept designer:
    “These ships are all powered, at least in my mind, by a system for harnessing gravity. It’s based on the idea that outerspace is not a vacuum, but filled with superfine particles we cannot detect, which carry microwaves, radio waves, and light. Basically it’s the same as the 19th century concept of ether. The particles are drawn to high-density masses, such as planets and stars, and it is their pushing down upon the surface of these objects which creates gravity.
    “If it were possible to acquire a small piece of super dense matter-like that found in a black hole-and shield it from the ether by enclosing it in a totally insulating box, you could harness perpetual motion. Lifting one side of the container would allow the ether to enter along a single, controlled axis, generating an inverse jet propulsion while adding to the gravity core’s mass and power. At least that’s how mine works. Speed would be a matter of regulating the ether flow.”

    Luke 13:3
    [3]I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
    John 14:6
    [6]Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
    Matthew 18:11
    For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost.
    John 8:12
    [12]Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
    Matthew 4:17
    From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
    Romans 10:9
    That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
    Romans 10:13

    Luke 6:27-38
    But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you,
    6:28 Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you.
    6:29 And unto him that smiteth thee on the one cheek offer also the other; and him that taketh away thy cloak forbid not to take thy coat also.
    6:30 Give to every man that asketh of thee; and of him that taketh away thy goods ask them not again.
    6:31 And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise.
    6:32 For if ye love them which love you, what thank have ye? for sinners also love those that love them.
    6:33 And if ye do good to them which do good to you, what thank have ye? for sinners also do even the same.
    6:34 And if ye lend to them of whom ye hope to receive, what thank have ye? for sinners also lend to sinners, to receive as much again.
    6:35 But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.
    6:36 Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.
    6:37 Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven:
    6:38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

    5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
    6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
    7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
    8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
    9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
    10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
    11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
    12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.
    Matthew 24:4-14
    And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.
    24:5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.
    24:6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
    24:7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.
    24:8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.
    24:9 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake.
    24:10 And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.
    24:11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.
    24:12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.
    24:13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.
    24:14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.
    Exodus 20
    King James Version
    20 And God spake all these words, saying,
    2 I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
    3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
    4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.
    5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;
    6 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.
    7 Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
    8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
    9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
    10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
    11 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
    12 Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.
    13 Thou shalt not kill.
    14 Thou shalt not commit adultery.
    15 Thou shalt not steal.
    16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.
    17 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's.

    This sounds like EARLY jets. They could go fast, much faster then prop planes of the time, but, for example, I will be using the Messersmitt Me262. It took a while to get up to the speeds that props could not match in level flight, whereas the props, coming off of a runway, will take off MUCH faster then the Me262. And now, jet engines are so advanced, we are having them takeoff straight up! This is just the exact same thing! After a while, we will have refined the design to where it CAN do these things! HAVE HOPE! A NEW HOPE FOR TIE FIGHTERS!!!

    The reason TIE Fighters are able to engage in Atmospheric Flight is because they have Magnetic Based Armor. With Magnetic Based Armor, which functions as another type of Shield, where it could Grab Air Particles to Move & Maneuver. As a Shield, it is Capable of Blocking & Deflecting Micro Particles, but nothing as big as the Rocks around Hoth (Star Wars: the Empire Strikes Back).

    Hmm the sound huh?? Well what we know of the TIE?? They are improved fighter than the reveldes ships, probably the technology of their generators are similar but more powerful, like comparing am i7 with a Pentium IV. We also know that TIE produce a similar sound in space and on earth, in fact considering the distances in a space battle, we could be said that they are "listen to more distance" in the space than being on a planet similar to Earth. My explanation (I´m not a physicist or something like that) is that the panels of the TIE release a type of radiation that propagates without limitation in vacuum, but in contact with the atmosphere of the cockpit of a starfighter reduce their frequency, ie, acquires a longer wavelength and releases energy in the form of vibration. This vibration in turn causes mechanical wave that "transports" this surplus of energy through an elastic medium, it´s air, and are picked up by our eardrum that interprets wave like "sound”...
