  • Hello Everyone! Thanks for joining me in this weeks #fridaysews which was created by Jen from ‪@TodayinJensSewingRoom‬
    Thanks as ever to all the Friday Sews contributors who are such a supportive team and to all my lovely viewers who always have kind things to say 😊
    This week I celebrate the completion of the BBQ Cover, no clue if it fits or not!! I will know after the weekend.
    I have also made some more Kwik sew 3614 shorts and some linen crops using New Look 6517.
    In September I will be taking part in Michelle from ‪@MichelleSewsAgain‬ fantastic challenge to raise awareness for ALZ (Alzheimer's disease). It will be the #sewpurpletoendalz and I will be making a garment along with Michelle, I've chosen a Big 4 pattern and Michelle will use an similar Indie pattern. I am very excited for that! I hope you all join in with creating something in purple, whatever you chose to do, the world is your oyster as they say!
    Thanks for watching and have a great weekend

    Good idea to cut the green T and the coral rib T down to sleeveless. I do this a lot when I'm not wearing a T or shirt and it seems a lot more versatile that way. I can wear them in summer better this way and in fall winter and spring under long sleeve shirts or sweaters. I like both colors on you. Loved the footage of you and your doggie walk and your usual path. Looks like parts of it burned at some point. I really enjoy walking with my dog to start or end my day.

      Hi Barbara, I have never cropped off sleeves before and not sure why as it transforms a garment doesn't it. Glad you enjoyed my walk in the forest. I know the bit you mean about burnt but it is just a small dead section that never gets the light and as we have had no rain for weeks it is looking much worse! Walking a dog is a brilliant way to start a day isn't it 👏🏼🐶. Thanks for watching 😊

    I love the white better than the gray; maybe find a satiny ribbon and use it as a binding for the hem?
    The dress you’re wearing is a beautiful style and the fabric is just gorgeous!
    Yay for the grill cover! I finished my dog crate cover and the corners were difficult, but I just winged it. The denim was stretchy and I pieced it together with my serger. It turned out satisfactory.
    Wow! What a treasure in your book!

    • @socarole66
      @socarole66  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Lisa. Thank you, I think most people said the white so I have ordered that. It's a really good idea to use a binding for the hem thank you. I can't wait to see your dog crate cover and you were so clever to have created that from denim strips. Once I found out how to do the corners it was easy but not on stretch I imagine.
      Thank you for the comment on my dress, it's one of those I was never really sure about and thought the bit across my neck due attention to the scraggy neck I seem to have 🤣. Thank you so much for your idea on the hem and for watching. 😊

There’s something about a white pair of pants that is just so classy to me. Hi Izzy, I will give you some secret info .the cover fits!! I'm glad it isn't just me with the white trousers, it's just an easy evening outfit in summer isn't it 😂. More or less everyone said the white so I ordered it but mistakenly ticked black instead 😩 so I have had to reorder. I kept the black as it could be useful for something else! Everyone has said use binding so I will explore that first on a scrap bit...we will see 😁. We had a scorcher of a weekend, I hope you enjoyed your family trip. 😊

      Thanks so much Nancy. TH-cam does funny things sometimes as this Friday Sews was 2 years ago! Oh my gosh I can't bear to think how much of a beginner I was back then 🤣. Update on the dress, it ended up being too tight for me so I donated it BUT I very recently made a better dress from the remnants of it! Also I made the cardigan in the white and I love it still. I re watched the video and the strange thing is the footage is of me walking my lovely old dog Mickey, sadly no longer with us. It was lovely to watch him again.

    Hi Carole!! You are so funny! Those shorts were not too bright; they are tropical-looking. Very summery-looking. You have been a very busy girl; you got a lot of sewing done and you've made so many useful things, incuding a BBQ cover...I wonder what your sewing instructor would think now. AY, the comment she left in your notebook -- OUCH! Sounded so much like something my junior high school teacher would say to me. Isn't that awful? So critical; no encouragement. Well, look at you now!
    What a lovely, morning walk you have. I loved it when I saw Mickey stop and turn to watch you as you caught up with him. Good boy!
    Have a great week-end!!

      Thanks Deb, I always seem to make more than I think and it's only when I do the Friday round up so I realise that! I will be so glad to pass on that BBQ cover, it's in the car already because imagine if we went all the way to meet them and I'd left it at home! 😰. I am glad you enjoyed the stroll around the forest, it's always so difficult to know what footage to include in our videos isn't it. Bless Mickey we really are trying to treasure each day now he is 13, I'm sure you know the feeling. Unpick and ask for help is my new motto! 🤣🤣. Have a lovely weekend x

    • @DebsWay
      @DebsWay 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      LOLOLOL...Nooooo, that's not a proper motto for you. Anyway, I could see you say something kindly like "let's unpick this and see if we can't make it look just a bit neater." Something to that effect.
      Mickey is really spry for his age! Ginger can be at times, too. She really had me worried this morning. When I woke up this morning, she wasn't on her pillow on the floor near my side of the bed and she wasn't there last night when we went to bed. Last night, she had fallen asleep very soundly on a blanket in the family room and didn't even stir as we got busy cleaning things up for the night before going to bed. I let her sleep out there thinking she'd wake up during the night and find her way to her pillow in the bedroom. I don't think she stirred all night. Right away this morning, I went in search of her and found her still sound asleep on the blanket -- where I had left her last night! Of course, I thought the worst. I reached down to stroke her little head and she moved just a little. Whew! William was worried about her as well and had me pick her up and look her over. She seemed okay. When I put her back down, she made for the door needing to go outside and I took her out. She was fine! Another WHEW!! She has eaten a little breakfast and has now settled back in the blanket for her morning snooze.
      I know it's inevitable but I don't want to lose my little Ginger just yet. Besides, how would we manage? She rules this household and keeps it running smoothly!!

    • @socarole66
      @socarole66  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DebsWay oh Deb that really was scary for you! Bless little Ginger, just obviously sound asleep. I know how you feel as Mickey is completely deaf now so every time we come in the house or a room he is asleep and doesn't hear us, you always think the worst don't you. We have to wake him gently but when I see his little tummy going up and down with breathing I am so relieved! Our lovely doggies eh 😊🐶🐶

    • @DebsWay
      @DebsWay 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I was born in Australia with English parents and I still cook (or my husband does!) a roast most Sundays. Christmas is in the middle of Summer, but we always have a roast then. @@socarole66 The wildlife is not that bad. Keeping to the paths helps and snakes generally keep out of sight if they hear us first. We generally take our dog to the dog park which is a great fenced area where the dogs can run and play safely. In Summer there are sightings of snakes but the park is very clear and snakes don't go in there. We also have lovely walking paths along the river which cater for everyone...paved so people in wheelchairs can use it so it's nice and safe as well.

    A rolled hem with the serger would be easiest on those lacy coverups you showed, not a nightmare at all, with some stabilizer. Like a water soluble stabilizer, or even a piece of calculator tape (figured you just might be of an age to know what that is) 😂 as am I……..😘
