  • Luck in business success is an aspect of entrepreneurship that is hard to quantify. In this video, I break down all the ways I got lucky in hopes to shed light on how much my business success, and possibly yours, is due to pure luck or hard work. I think you'll be suprised at my findings. Watch to the end and see if this mindset shift changes the way you think about your chances and perhaps even the way your work. #ecommerce #entrepreneurship #businessmindset

    😁 ABOUT ME:
Hi, my name is Spencer. I co-founded Solo Stove. An e-commerce company that was started in 2010 as a side hustle in a garage with only 15K. Solo Stove grew into Solo Brands and in 2021, raised $219M through an IPO (NYSE: DTC) giving the company we started in a garage a valuation of over $2 BILLION dollars!
After a decade of starting and growing ecommerce businesses and having successfully exited the daily operations of Solo Stove, I'm now turning my focus to helping other ecommerce entrepreneurs find success. Join me and subscribe to my channel as I post weekly videos to help you succeed!

I don't have a huge audience (yet) but just seeing the hundreds of watch hours my handful of videos have received, I'm already amazed how many people are willing to listen to my messages. Thanks for watching Eman!

Wow, tremendous humility! Thanks for sharing these ideas. Chance is the most understated component of success. Although we (and you) have every opportunity to "steer" chance, chance no less is the one factor we cannot control, and so often ignored. Good on you, and all the best!

I opened a restaurant 4 months before pandemic, in front of a big university, and the university has been doing online classes till now lol.
Its a shame because we were very successful in the first 4 months

I've heard restaurants are tough businesses to start. Sorry Covid was such a challenge for you.

im 5 years into my journey and can't seem to catch a break. one of these days i'm hoping to change that, but wanted to ask - when you felt like you were unsure if it was unlucky and you should keep doing the same things, who did you talk to and how did you get feedback?

Every decision is an opportunity cost (for you). Weigh out the opportunity and cost and let that guide your decisions.

Another great video Spencer! To my surprise, playing poker taught me the same mindset you just elaborated on. Life and business in general is all about taking calculated risks to create any outcome, be it good or bad. You got me to finally start my business btw. I'm starting to see business as a game where you have to play fundamentally sound on a consistent basis. There will be losses, but if you play only your good hands and play them correctly, then you should win more in the long run.

Thanks Brian! That's really interested how you learned the same lessons playing poker. Excited to hear you're diving into entrepreneurship, that's great! Enjoy the journey and let me know how I can help. 👏👏👏

Such a great context to success! One of my favorite lines: you need to be in the ring to land a lucky punch.

    • @SpencerJan

Thanks Adam! That's a great quote too! Landing a lucky punch feels AMAZING... but getting repeatedly jabbed in the face, not so much. Both part of the game 😂
